Talking about "Time Krystals" in the Kombat Kast and saying it's for "cosmetics only" and that they're a "shortcut to getting gear".

Sounds like a microtransaction store to me.

Combine that with them talking about adding "special moves as DLC" in the GameInformer article.

Really hate the direction they're going with this is it turns out true.

Its only to buy gear and thats it, NOT augments and Augments are only used for offline anyway so its not a big deal at all lol

Also the "adding moves as DLC" is only if the fans want it.

From the Kombat Kast already, if those were the only special moves the characters had, I think you would not complain. They are awesome! But I'm imagining the design teams mind is always thinking and so maybe rather than go "we'll add this move to the MK12 design of the character, they'll think.. "oh, I've had a great idea" and add it in then.

It's dipping their toes in the rabbit hole. It won't take much for them to slip all the way in like so many other games have. This will certainly be the case if special moves are sold. I just don't trust WB with this at all.

Arj_Giese

Also the "adding moves as DLC" is only if the fans want it.

Translation: They'll sell it to anyone who buys it. Which is the entire basis for microtransactions. There are way too many people out there who'll buy anything and everything in a game like this, just cause they can. Not because they want it.

They also said you can unlock everything without paying anything. It just if you want to speed up to process of unlocking. So I don't see anything wrong with it. Even the aesthetics can be unlocked for free.
It's actually nothing different as what they did in MKX.

They said the same about CoD but they've been proven to have slowed the unlocked down so drastically you're barely going to unlock anything without shilling out money for it.

They say the same about so many other games that it's "cosmetic only" but within a month or two after release they start selling pay-to-win stuff.

This practice is the norm within the industry. It's so rare that any game actually lives up to the promise and remains cosmetics-only. The only one I can think of is Warframe and I'm not sure about the state of their store recently.

Don't be so negative and suspicious. Listen to what they said rather than what you want them to have said so your point would have been in any way valid.

MK has given back to fans more than any gaming franchise. Don't complain because the industry says certain things happen. Like people who bring up the NPC in MK11. Those NPC are in storymode where they battle one character and so only have to react to one character. And only have limited combo chains, inputs, etc. So it's not the same as "they are already in the game". They exist at 10% of what a game character would require to be basic.

It's such a common practice that almost every game company does. It would be silly not to be suspicious. Never trust a game company and take what they say at face value unless they've proven trustworthy. Warner Bros is far from trust-worthy.

Saying they're heading down a slippery-slope would be an understatement. Considering the track-record of this sort of thing, and WB themselves - it's practically an ice-slide.

And I've explained already that game companies say this exact same thing all the time and almost always go back on their word.

I shouldn't even have to explain this. Anyone who follows the gaming industry at all should be well aware of this already. To believe otherwise is outright willful ignorance.

It’s troubling but entirely expected. I would be willing to bet unlocking gear sets will be a painfully slow process, incentivizing the purchase of grind currency. We’ve seen examples of publishers abusing micro transactions (WB is notorious for it).

We’ll see how it goes but I always get nervous when stuff like this comes around.

Well, at the event where Noob was revealed one of the questions asked was:

"Will there be micro-transactions and loot boxes in MK 11?"

Answer: "There will be no loot boxes in MK 11." Never said a word about micro-transactions. Take completely ignoring that part of the question as you will.

And, yes, while it is true that those transactions could turn into literally anything down the line... the fact remains that they are an option. No one is forced to buy them. I will say that (if it happens) it will be unfortunate if "pay to win" stuff is introduced to the store later. But really, what can you do? It's all about the money for these companies (especially WB, sad but true). We don't know for sure that this will happen, however. Wait til it happens to complain about it is all I'm saying. Perhaps this gaming franchise will surprise us on this particular matter?

I feel the opposite lol. I was very "meh" on MK11 for the longest- then something just switched in me.

Looks like a blast.

What exactly can they do to make it pay to win? Nothing really.

It's actually nothing different as what they did in MKX.

In BattleFront 2 you could also unlock characters without paying, just by playing, so why were so many people disgusted when it turned out that yes, you could unlock one character after about 40h of playing but hey - it was free, right?

Plus, I don't trust WB after Shadow of War. I don't care if someone thinks that grinding those orcs at the end was easy and fast or hard and long. It's about that they did it in the first place. Oh, and don't forget MKX's crypt where at first prices for unlocking were high AF so they lowered them... only do decrese the amount of coins you could win. So, yeah... that...

And it's not like I want this game to sell badly. I'm just not a teenager anymore and I can remember that there was a time when a game was bought like bread or milk. I went to the store, I paid for it and it was mine. I also consider myself a conscious consumer who will never pre-order anything. I want to see how a product fits me (be it a game, movie, clothes or anything else). If after the game comes out and I don't like it, I will just not buy it or if I consider the cost of the product too high for what it can offer, then I'll wait for a discount.

PS. The game comes out in a few weeks so we'll all see for ourselves if it's good or if it failed our expectations. No biggie. The best thing to do is to vote with our wallets, nothing else matters for a corporation like WB.

Sell special moves.
Sell augmentations / buffs.
Sell OP / spammable characters.

Not if they slow down the free unlockables to the pace of a crippled snail like other games have. It means you either dedicate hundreds/thousands of hours to unlock stuff, or you buy it. It's manipulation.

I don't really know why you adressing me on that. You know what would be a better comparison? MKX!! Did they such a thing with MKX?? No!!
Djeezes, of all game genres to pick, you pick a genre that is known for its micro-transactions.

At this point, there is no reason to complain. Mortal Kombat hasn't done any grinding nor micro-transactions that were required to enjoy the game in full. NRS shouldn't be critiqued for what other developers have done.

This thread at this point is just complaining to complain and nothing more.

A necessary evil in my opinion. Some people do not have the time to unlock everything and will gladly pay to skip the grind to get everything up front. It works for them but as long as you can unlock everything in the game by playing it I honestly do not mind. People made a lot of fuss in MKX about easy fatalities and with unlocking the Krypt immediately but nothing ever came of it.

They said about lootboxes that they looked at other games and how they are extremely negatively perceived so that means they are aware that people do not want this kind of stuff. I do not think NRS will go overboard.

But how can a special move be considered pay to win? You can still learn what it does and how to block it. Unless it's unblockable and safe.
Not sure what you mean about augmentations / buffs, there are no stats in this game.
New characters will be DLC so that's obviously pay to play anyway.

Also, none of that will be available for ranked except new characters so again, how is it pay to win?

You don't have to, yet you've posted 5 times shooting down anyone who is even cautiously optimistic that this isnt as insidious as you're making it out to be.

You had your mind made up from the moment you made this thread. You're not looking to warn uninformed consumers or debate the pros and cons, you're looking to bash everyone over the head with you're "the entire industry is out to get us" paranoia. If you don't want to partake, simply cancel your preorder, if applicable, and sit on the sidelines and keep saying I told you so.
