My number one unrealistic character I want in MK11 is Shujinko. By far. Because, despite the fact that he is largely unpopular among the Mortal Kombat fanbase, and younger fans might not even recognize him, he was an awesome character in MK6! You got to learn about the MK universe and literally watch him grow in that Konquest mode.

I'm really curious about where he is in this new timeline. Forget about that BS Cassie Cage arcade ending (I hope to goodness that's not supposed to be canon). Also forget about that MKX comic book series, where they replaces the kamidogu artifacts with daggers. That's not cool. What's actually cool is reimagining Shujinko's quest - his deception, if you will.

There's is so much intrigue there.

I agree with most of what you say and Shujinko is probably not in, but I'm also intrigued by him. The problem I truly see is how NRS - maybe due to WB - are catering to the casual fans with the story filled with a lame love story, the special forces, futuristic weapons against some aliens (as in non-earthlings). They are not really in touch with their own origin, the true MK lore, steeped in fantasy and asian mythology. They need to hire some non-American people who understand that part better than them. The game is really a white Hollywood version of how they see Mortal Kombat.

It's hard to say that anyone who's made an appearance in the last two games (either playable or cameo) is unrealistic, with the exception of maybe Stryker, Shujinko, and Taven -- the latter two because their character concepts are fully built around them being the central stars of their respective games. If a character has gotten an onscreen appearance of any sort, they're at least on the radar. So for this list I'm gonna have to reach way back there....

Kai: Because of course Kai. We need a male character who can be as acrobatic as the ladies usually are, and while Johnny is halfway there in his current iteration, Kai can really crank it up.

Kira: Get rid of the Sonya/Kano mashup B.S. and revamp her moveset, but keep the story angle where she's an anarchist making arms deals with terrorists to provoke the downfall of civilization. Kano's criminality is just business; Kira can be a straight up villain.

Stryker: Unpopular enough to still be unrealistic despite still being around in the background. How do you differentiate Stryker from the Special Forces characters? Play down the militarized assault angle and play up the more defensive riot cop archetype. You can give him a riot shield to smash opponents, reflect projectiles, reduce chip, inflict damage against incoming strikes, etc. Handcuffs can be used in parries, throws, and Fatal Blow. Though he still has a gun and perhaps some gas grenades to stun opponents, he's mostly close range and highly defensive. A shield-focused character is still an open niche in Mortal Kombat, and Stryker can fit the bill better than anybody. Bonus points if he also acquires a vicious and loyal K9 companion (or Hellhound, for Revenant Stryker).

Nitara: She may be facing stiff competition from Skarlet for the blood theme and Mileena for the "monster woman who bites people" theme, but Nitara still has something no one else has besides Onaga: winged flight. It worked for Hawkgirl in Injustice. Though her blood-related moves would have to be limited now that Skarlet is around, she can pick up other tricks like invisibility, bats, moon magic, or what have you.

Ashrah: So far there haven't been any other characters with "holy" power in the canon. Plus, voodoo dolls are a thing we haven't really tried yet. It's a disturbing and sinister kind of tactic to use when you're trying to earn redemption, which can set her up to be an anti-heroine who earns the heroes' allegiance but not quite their respect. She'd probably get along okay with Dark Raiden though, if he sees fit to weaponize her talents and willingness to push the moral line farther than the other heroes would.

Alright, I'll play along.

  • Li Mei
  • Nitara
  • Sareena
  • Fujin
  • Kai
  • *shrug* I just like the 3D era characters, man. Li Mei obviously because she's my favorite MK character and I just really, really, really want to use her again even if she's DLC. Nitara is just an interesting character from a conceptual standpoint, and the fact there is an entire realm of vampires like her could really make for some interesting story telling in the future. Sareena is just a cool character that just never gets love from the MK team for some reason, so I'd like to see her return if for no other reason than to see her play off of Sub Zero and Noob Saibot. Fujin is a character with so much damn potential that I just want to finally see get used. Kai...well, no particular reason other than wanting to see how NRS can re-imagine this character from his lackluster MK4 and Armageddon appearances.

Probably won't get any of these...oh well.

Ashrah. Her story was nice and I liked her concept very much. The warrior of light. She was amazing on PS2 I can’t even imagine how amazing she would be on PS4!

Hotaru: once again, the story of MK deception was stunning and actually my favourite game. Finally we had new realm to explore: Seido and Chaosrealm. It As really exciting. Hotaru story was stunning as well as his abilities.

drahmin: he was a new concept, a fresh one. Such a shame he got so much potential.

Motaro. The Centaurian has been erased from MK story what a pity. He was sooo evil ???? lol It’s was probably complicated to make his character concept on PS4 as he can’t really do any combo ( maybe he could). The centaurian were the direct enemies of shokans. They could have been part of Mileena war for Outworld thrones...

daegon: the story of the two edenian brothers, was fascinating too. I would love to know more about Argus and Dealia. Then the story with the red dragon attached to Kenshi and Takeda perhaps mean that we could see him in the future?

Onaga - I would have had him possess a willing armless disgraced Goro instead of Reptile this time and take back his throne only not be manipulated by the One Being. It's working through Raiden, so instead Onaga wouldn't be an all powerful evil this time and instead be a Emperor fully capable of unifying and repairing Outworld and bringing it back from the hell Shao Kahn made it.

Havik - Dudes been sitting out for far too long at this point and was basically the Kenshi/Quan Chi/D'Vorah of MK Deception.

Nitara - Expands on the universe of MK could have a lot of fun with a vampire character

Mokap - I'm not kidding. With a rework he can work. I'd just make him a sorcerer, perhaps Shang's protege, who specializes in manipulating people through magic. Not in a insidious 4D chess playing whisper in the ears of others Quan Chi way. I mean the dude literally uses magic to manipulate people as if they were puppets; either through direct possession or through thralls he creates to act as his flesh puppets which he does his observing and fighting through while he remains safe and hidden. His magic would be represented visually through a string like effect. get it? Because he's like a puppeteer?

Stealing Quan Chi's new gimmick a little? Sure but since when has his thing ever been mind control? He's a necromancer.

And yes I would explain his Carlos MKDA appearance. I wouldn't just throw it away. I would have Carlos be a thrall of his keeping tabs on earth realm through befriending Johnny Cage. Maybe Johnny vents and says a little too much too his friend about what his ex wife is up to.

I wouldn't change him the much cosmetically either I would just tweak him. Keep the motion capture balls on his body but obviously redesign them to not be that. Have them be magical gems like what Ermac had all over him in Deception.

Gameplay wise of course he would actually fight and not hide behind another character. I would have his special moves be a combination of manipulation/forced self harm from the opponent along with him simply being able to lash you with these magical strings that web out from his fingers.

The idea would be that once he landed that special on you would then sort of have a, for lack of a better term, bomb planted on you. Figuratively that is. If he got his "strings" on you he would be able to detonate a small self harm move the opponent that would cause just a small chip of damage. So the idea is to be strategic with when to detonate this.

Shujinko - This poor guy needs a redemption. When and if he ever comes back he needs to come back strong. Give him a major overhaul. I'm thinking something closer to Heihachi than withered tired old Pai Mei. So Pai Mei on steroids.

They are not really in touch with their own origin, the true MK lore, steeped in fantasy and asian mythology. They need to hire some non-American people who understand that part better than them. The game is really a white Hollywood version of how they see Mortal Kombat.

    This couldn't be more true.

A series where originally Asian characters were the protagonists has now been overrun by traditional Hollywood tropes of what constitutes an action hero. It would be nice if they were to truly revisit the mythology of the series, instead of consistently faintly glossing over MK1, 2, and 3.

Yeah, rethinking about it, they really did injustice to the original main heroes storywise in the reboot. Especially Liu Kang, Earthrealm's champion. He hasn't caught a break since Deadly Alliance, from corrupted zombie to hell's revenant.

Cage's family needs to take a step back here., If anyone deserves a comeback to defeat Kronika, its Liu.

When the Kollektor was first leaked, people were thinking he'd possibly be Shang Tsung or Shujinko. Part of me was hoping for Rain, as he was said to collect daggers in the 3d games. When 4 arms were mentioned, iirc Goro or Kintaro also collected daggers. Then I was thinking random guest: Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy, because of all his swords. Or Star Wars' General Grievous.

I know he's been shown in the story trailer, just random thoughts I had before.

Liu Kang being a revenant isn't even the issue for me. I welcome it.

It's the way the story is going overall that bothers me. It's too stereotypical in terms of American media. I really hope MK11 takes a step in a better direction. There are too many characters in MK for them to only prioritize six or seven at a time. There are already examples of how to handle dozens of characters at once in a story; they just need to pay attention.
