Jaqui’s so interesting to me. She’s a popular character, yet many on message boards seem to think she’s universally reviled. I thought she was okay in MKX, but following the example, I’m FAR more excited to play her in MK11.

As for Fujin, I can’t help but see this as a missed opportunity. Like others have said, this is an MK game whose story is uniquely suited to gods, yet they leave one out that fans have been requesting for ages?

Who knows. There are 28 boxes on the MK site’s roster page and while the leak that gave us Cetrion, Kollector, etc also said Mileena, Shinnok and Shang Tsung, if I’m not mistaken, we know Shang Tsung’s DLC.

So if there are three hidden characters, and that’s still an if at this point (though I believe one of the devs said there would be hidden characters), is it possible that Fujin still makes the cut?

Even if he’s only DLC, I’m just fine with that as long as he’s in the game and (hopefully) part of the story. Same goes for Sareena, who feels like a good choice to be a part of the Noob / Sub Zero storyline.

But yeah, lots of hands out, lots of mouths to feed. Every character has a fan base and while the sizes vary, I know they can’t please everyone.

I just hope they’ll turn the faucet on a tiny bit more and let a few more 3D era characters in that many have been clamoring for and not just give us more of the same characters we’ve seen for several games in a row now. The more variety, the better (IMO).

Really hoping the first pack has Fujin, Sareena, Takeda, Smoke and any of Nitara, Havik, Reiko, Kai, Mavado, Kira, Tasia, Kung Jin or Drahmin.

"The story is perfect for Fujin and he should be in the game for that reason! But I'm fine with him being DLC"

If he's DLC, he's probably not going to be in the story. Or he'll only make minor appearances. And people will still be left saying: "He should've been in the story and playable from the start!"

If the only way he's getting into the game is via DLC then I'd rather they didn't bother.
Playable but not in the story reminds me of Rain: in the story but not playable. Practically the same thing to me.

So story is the most important thing to you in MK games?

I'd much rather have them playable than in the story. Story is 8 hours, but you'll play other modes for years.

I totally agree with this point. I think Jacqui is fine, maybe she’s not the best character in the world but seeing the way some MK fans lose their collective minds over her just confounds me. I think it’s just the echo chamber effect that happens in communities like this one.

Same thing happened back when Deadly Alliance released and people were absolutely howling over characters like Li Mei, Frost, etc. The MK fan base is both amazing and horrifyingly obnoxious/stupid at the same time.

Statement of intent: I love Fujin, he is one of my favorite characters.

Reality check: the average casual player doesn't know who he is and doesn't care to know more about him hence is not popular enough, hence it will be a miracle if Fujin will be DLC.

The role of Earthrealm defender is held steadily by Raiden, if Raiden turns rogue somehow good Raiden will be back. And I'm not talking about MK11 the very same exact thing happened in MK Deception in 2004!

Sareena and Fujin are characters that somewhat, somehow are always planned in a game, but never do the cutting floor.

Fujin and Sareena are not popular enough and NRS does not want to jeopardize its sales.

Yes, it is. I want to know the characters history, their motives and reasons for fighting. Who or what they're willing to die for and how the events of the story affect them personally.

It's one of the main reasons why MK is the only fighting game I have an invested interest in - which has kept me coming back every single release. Where-as other franchises I may have picked up only one title.

It's like going to see a film - I'm not interested in brainless, generic action flicks. Other people might, and that's fine for them. But for me it's boring. If I wanted plot-less martial arts, I'd go watch stick-fights on Newgrounds. Fun for about 10 mins, then almost completely forgettable afterwards.

Without story I highly doubt anyone would be invested in these characters. If gameplay is a persons only concern then they wouldn't be asking for Fujin specifically, they'd be asking for a zoner or a character that plays similarly to Fujin.

As for me personally, I don't care for Fujin per se. I'm way more of a Raiden fan. But I see Fujin being important to Raiden's character - and this dark Raiden story arc in particular. I do want Fujin's backstory and personality fleshed out more though. Would help me become more attached to him.

It's supposed to be degrading.

She's called Jacqui because it's just a feminine version of her dad's name. It would be like calling Cassie; "Sonny" (Sonya+Johnny).
Gameplay-wise she is a clone of Jax and her entire bio screams: "I'm the daughter of Jax and I wanna be Jax, just like my daddy Jax is, because he's Jax!!"

She comes off as a wannabe fangirl. Actually, no, that would imply she can thnk for herself. She's nothing more than a gender-swappped Jax.

Even the old palette-swaps had more going for them as they had their own unique movesets and theme.

I guess I could call her LegJax, as she is just Jax but with metal legs instead of arms. But that might degrade the fact she's a gender-swap.

I get why you see it that way. But to be honest she looks a whole lot better then she did in mkx. Just out of curiosity why dont you call Cassie “ Sonny “ she is more a rip of her parents then jacqui is. She has sonya her looks and 40% sonya’s gameplay and she has Johnny’s humor and 60% his moves but girly. I love Cassie and Jacqui not that much...but if you look at it cassie is more a ripoff of her parents then jacqui is of her dad..

I kinda liked Cassie's design in MKX. It sucks that they've made her look way too similar to Sonya now and it's hard to tell them apart.

At least in MKX (and the comic too) they explored and developed them as a family. They even explored the theme of her being in the shaodw of her parents and wanting to break free from that, but also be accepted by them.

The Jackson-Twins had no such connection. I don't think they even interacted once in the story, did they? Neither in the comicbook or the game. I might accept her more after the MK11 story, but as of now... from what I've listed above... she's nothing more than a boring gender-swap of an already boring character.

Omg, this needs to be FRAMED. Haha

It's an echo chamber. Fans on a few MK messageboards don't like a character and all of a sudden "OMGZ EVERYONE HATES HER! WHY IS SHE BACK?!111"

Completely ignoring the millions of people out there who don't have a MKO account who, you know, actually liked said character.

That is true they did explore cassie her story much more in both the comics and in the game itself seeing she is the offspring of two legacy / Hero characters. I also love her but kinda wish that she did not look this much as sonya and had more iconic moves. I love cassie but i fear she is taking sonya and or Johnny’s spot in future games. And that can not happen cause Sonya is my main. Lol.

The part of jacqui and Jax....only interaction i can remember from comics and game is that they had a brief talk when Jax was in the netherrealm...before or after he captured quan chi they had a “ moment “ over the coms.....now thinking about it. That is nothing.

On a side note (while talking about Gods and Elder Gods) ...

Seeing Cetrion in action and appearance really makes me wonder what the other Elder Gods are like and what they can do. Random, I know, but just something I started thinking about after seeing her reveal vid.

Back to Fujin:

I've been looking online regarding characters with wind based powers and... I gotta say that NRS is stupid if they decide to completely kick Fujin to the curb. He could be so damn badass with this powers if they just let their imaginations get to work.

Well..hmmm. He doesn't exactly need it. However, since this has been termed a more weapons-heavy MK? Sure, why not? I'm sure they can find some cool ways to work it in. It would be cool from a nostalgic POV anyway. Though again, I don't really think he needs it.

Fujin in Japanese mythology is depicted carrying a huge bag of winds on his shoulders. The only way I can see that becoming a weapon is if he used it like a towel to whip people. XD

The tessen fans would make a lot of sense - even samurai used those as weapons. But that's a big staple of Kitana so no way Fujin would get it.

The Gunbai fan could be a decent replacement - it's a signalling fan that Japanese generals used, but could also deflect arrows. One of these fans appeared in the original Dragon Ball as a mystical item "that can raise a typhoon with a single wave, a thunderstorm with two and a monsoon with three". Seems appropriate. Even if Fujin didn't use it directly as a weapon, I can see him using it to cast his wind abilities, a shield against projectiles, and be one of his customisable items.

Otherwise a guandao could work. It's a type of Chinese glaive (think a polearm with a fan-like blade on the end). Famously associated with Guan Yu who's guandao is called "Green Dragon Crescent Blade" - while mythological Fujin is supposed to be green-skinned. I love little nods and references like this.

I see Fujin being more of an empty handed, Long Fist sort of fighter, with whirling movements leading to piercing strikes.

Some of his strikes can be accompanied by a concussive blast of air or a sweeping wind arc to extend his range. Seeing Fujin wield a physical weapon always looked to me like an artificial constraint on his power; leaving him without a physical weapon highlights the fact that he is a God of Wind and can strike you from a distance no matter what. (I kind of feel the same way about Raiden having a staff, but I feel a little better about it thinking of it as a lightning rod.)

My Fujin move wishlist would include strings that end with enough range to basically be projectiles, Hawkgirl-esque flying attacks, intangibility (he turns into a vapor cloud that can move freely anywhere on the screen, and cannot be touched), and a steady wind gust that prevents the opponent from advancing toward him for a few seconds.

But yeah, when trying to think of weapons for Fujin I don't think he necessarily needs one and would probably be better without.

Fuck Fujin. I hope he misses the DLC cut too.

Simply because she threw a whirlwind and had a wind shield? I don’t really think so. There are so many other things Fujin could do with his power over wind. Throwing whirlwinds is just the start. I still think he can and will be DLC (not the ideal way I wanted him in... but one must take what one can get). I beleive one of those DLC slots will be his. I won’t believe otherwise until all dlc characters are released and he’s not there. Then and only then will I admit defeat. You give up too easily my friend. Not over til it’s over. Same with Mileena. I was upset that Kitana had a couple of moves of hers... but I still refuse to believe that puts her out of the running for DLC automatically. Remember those moves were moves that you can CHOOSE to add to Kitana’s move set... not a part of her natural arsenal of special moves. There’s still some hope Mileena could show as DLC.
