Kung lao, Lui kang and Noob. Maybe Shao Kahn
#1 Is Sonya for sure. Though I’ll admit my excitement for her has fallen just a bit by the apparent omission of her best signature move in the leg grab. None of the others had their signatures messed with (of course not, NRS wouldn’t dare)... but this’ll be the third time for Sonya. That sucks. However, being that it’s Sonya, I can’t not use her. As a big fan though, I’m very disappointed.
#2 Is a toss up right now between Jade and Kabal.
#3 Is definitely Shang Tsung. Very happy he’s back... even if he is just DLC so not a legit part of the story... but I’m just glad he’s there (or rather going to be there).
#4 Is likely going to be Kollector. That guy just looks and plays so cool to me! I’ll be checking out Cetrion for sure too. She looks way to good to ignore. Very interesting character that I want to know more about.

Its kinda crazy how fans now rather play characters that were the least played charcaters back in the days. I understand Johnny, but im kinda surprised how kung lao is not even mentioned. Do MK fans of these day even like martial arts? It seems that the majority cares for gore and guns now.
People can like and play whoever they want

I generally like special abilities over martial arts and DEFINITELY over guns and gadgets.
Thats why I main every male ninja.. (except scorpion)

I'd say that there's more to "martial arts" than just Eastern martial arts, and MK has steadily incorporated more and more influences from outside of Asia since MK3. The "guns" in your statement are as old as MK3 as well with its cyborgs, Rocket Jax, and Stryker. Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and Raiden are still big stars of the series, so it's not like they've totally stopped putting the Asian themes front and center. But Mortal Kombat involves the entire Earth and multiple entire parallel worlds, so really it can have as many different influences as it wants.
The Asian focus has always been a part of its charm, and bringing in inspiration from other cultures and weird alien things is also part of its charm.

I agree that the charm of MK was the east meets west aspect. Alien weird things is what i like just as much, but alot of the alien weird things were inspired from asian mytholgies. With some space sci fi influances added to it. Portals realms etc. What imo was the perfect balance and iconic look for MK. Its now alot less eastern mytholgies and alot more sci fi. Which i find a bit unfortunate.
In the rapid questions interview with Ed. Boon. Ed said that the Japanese mythologies influances were from the most part J. Tobias ideas/input.
I remember alot of complaints when MK3 launched and that it changed so much compared to MK1 and 2. The guns etc. Were not well recieved. The recent MK games remind me of MK3 than MK2. And for that reason im surpirised how that changed over time.

She doesn't have her leg grab? That's my favorite move of hers. What a pity! Does she have her bicycle kick?

Sadly does not seem like it.
She has her energy rings, leg breaker ( new variant of leg grab ), ass wooping, air controle, air ops drop, soaring general ( flying kick ), her B.U.D.E turret summon shoot and detonate and drop, air energy rings, energy rings charge, krushing counters and marching orders what also is from the air looks like a dive kick.

Nope, doesn’t seem to have that one either. She does some upward punches move in place of it. However they did manage to, once again, give her back that horrible hand-me-down fly kick of Liu’s... which I personally still take as insulting. It just irks me because they would never dream of taking away Scorpion’s spear or Kung Lao’s hat throw or Johnny’s shadow kick. Yet they can take away Sonya’s most iconic signature move... not once, but three times. I don’t get it. Also the leg breaker move is not a new variation of the leg grab as it is nothing like it. However, I will admit that the move is cool.

There's still a couple of base roster characters we haven't seen, DLC characters will be coming, and I haven't played the beta so this is purely speculative at this point but I will say based on what I've seen that either Jax or Liu Kang could end up as my main. Watching their gameplay really took me back to MKII, and they were both top tier back then.
Erron Black and Jacqui both look like a ton of fun, and Sub-Zero looks very solid in this game as well.
Of course, I will go through the arcade ladder with every character as I do in every Mortal Kombat game. That will really help me get a feel for who I'm best with.

Can't absolutely say what's there and what's not when they haven't shown us anybody's full suite of moves, and Sonya was a fairly early reveal. There's still a chance it's in the customization. It would kind of suck to have the leg grab be a variation slot rather than a base move, but if it gives you a popup then it would sorta make sense.
I hope she keeps more of her classic stuff somehow. She's been the acrobatic government operative femme fatale of the series, so I would have liked to see them take her in more of a Black Widow direction than a cage fighter with military hardware. I see why they're aiming to make her like a hardass military type, but it leaves behind an archetypal void that yearns to be filled.
If they made an acrobatic Black Widow type style with a helper drone, and a hard-hitting cage fighter style with grenades and other hardware, and gave one to Sonya and the other to Cassie (in any order) then I would be the most satisfied with that.

Get that ass BANNED
Would like to try out Cassie. Still waiting on Shao and Frost. Johnny looks sick. Unfortunately, I'm not exactly seeing a go to for me (yet). Kills me Mileena isn't in UNLESS she's unlockable. If I had to pick though, maybe Cass.

Yeah, that’s true...at least I’m hoping it is. Trust me, I would love nothing more than to be completely wrong about this. Seriously it would be the best thing ever for me regarding this game. If they added more of her classic moves to her variations move list... I’d literally, at this point, have not a thing to complain about with this game.
Boon did say that we’d be able to make classic versions of the characters (move wise anyway) through the variation system. So perhaps they will throw the leg grab in there. Even if it should have been part of her default move list... I’d just be happy it was in there. So I guess we’ll see. However I will not hold my breath (as 16bit keeps calling that new leg breaker move her “leg grab”) That is kind of the biggest culprit of making me believe it won’t be in there.
We’ll see. I hope you’re right.

I enjoyed Scorpion and Baraka, but in all honesty, the grounded nature of the gameplay and differing abilities of the characters makes me want to try a bunch of characters I'd never have thought to.

Kollector and Jacqui
