I really hope the ps3 version will have a 2d mode and a separate 3d mode.
As people know, to render things in 3d it has to be rendered twice.
And as developers sometimes are having a bit of a hard time getting regular games to run as smoothly on ps3 as the 360, this doesn't bode well for Mk.

Of course if it has a separate 2d and 3d mode, the 2d mode will hopefully be just fine.

It will have a option to turn 3D on or off. Not everyone has 3D tv yet and so they will have to cater to both 2D and 3D.

If they are making both the PS3 and 360 versions at the same time their shouldn't be any major differences. It also helps if the game is made for the PS3 and adapted to the 360.

I just hope they won't have downscaled graphics on the 2d mode as well.

Have the developers stated this themselves or is it just assumption or your side? About the 2d and 3d mode I mean.
I'm well aware of other games having had separate 2d and 3d modes, like Avatar and that Disney rodent game.

It's assumption. It wouldn't make much sense to only release the PS3 edition in 3D. Although they may release seperate editions where one is 3D and the other is 2D.

Two different editions will be most likely the way they go 2d version and 3d version which I expect you digging deeper into your pockets to get the 3d version.

I hope that's the way they're going.
I just hope they don't go the lazy way and make both ps3 versions have downscaled visuals.

Well thats how they do it for blu rays one version is 3d and other version is 2d. How come you think that they will downscale the res just cuz they have both version on one disk? I'm kind of new to this whole 3d stuff and that would suck if thats what has to happen in order to get both on one disk.

I'm already not a huge fan of 3D viewing, but for a fighting game especially, I don't see the point. Maybe for a game like Mass Effect or Alan Wake, but for a 2D fighter? Seems like that would get old after 10 minutes.

Since I'm blind on one eye I can't view 3d, so it naturally doesn't really interest me :)

what's up with people afraid of this 3D thing? It's just an option for the game. If I had a 3D tv I'd use this feature all the time, but I don't so it doesn't matter

Bluray discs can be up to 50 gigs, they have plenty of room.

In the ps3 press show, they said they are going to release all the 3d games with two options. Both options are its own diffrent game, you will choose which one to play with a screen comming up and you desiding which one to play.

Say like they had the diffrent modes for 1080 and 720, in soul calibure.

Storage space isn't an issue when it comes to games.

Unlike a 3D movie where a scene has to be filmed in 2 views (left/right eyes) meaning twice as much information has to be stored, a game uses a pseudo camera to show the scene, nothing needs to be stored.

From what I understand of the technology, all they'd need to do is enable a second camera view slightly off from first to create the second image to be sent to the TV for display.

As far as Xbox 360 not supporting 3D, a quick google brings up this article.

I'd say it may well be some exclusivity deal or similar, more so than 360 not supporting it.

If you read engadgets write up on KZ3 3D then it does bring up a worry about playing it in 3D, luckily you won't be forced to do it. When they show the game in 3D they have to show everything twice, in order for the ps3 to be able to do it, they have to lower the resolution by a lot, it also makes everything darker, it totally defeats the purpose of trying to make the best looking game you can when you end up having to dumb it down graphically to run it in 3D. Like I said in another post I think 3D and motion control are both just a gimmick, they are trying to exted this generation as long as they can.

MS is not doing it bc they don't want to try and force this 3D thing at people. 3D did not good in the past and I can't see it working good now. The fact that they have make the screen smaller for it to work is not worth the trade off.

Even if my tv could do 3D and 360 copy of MK could do it I would never use it, maybe one time for kicks and that's it. I still stand by on what I said about it being dumb.
I will be sooooo glad when this whole 3d thing blows over. Because to be honest, it hurts my head to view anything in 3d and I really don't see the appeal.

But luckily I'm getting this on the 360 so it's all good grin

Yeah 3D is kind of a joke, I doubt you'll be able to "enjoy" it if you sit off to the sides at all either. It's just marketing junk to try to lengthen these consoles life cycles as long as they can.

3D will never be mandatory. That would be a stupid decision on the developer's part and I'm sure they're aware of that.

I just hope the developers don't take the lazy way out and just makes the 2d version the same as the 3d version minus the 3d effect.
Lets say the 3d version runs at a lower resolution with downscaled graphics.
I'm worried that instead of having the 2d version have maxed out graphics, they just have it be the same as the 3d version only without the 3d .

A interview with the developers of the new Motorstorm game confirmed that the 3d version of that game runs at about half the resolution, they didn't even say if the 2d version would run at the full resolution.

They also have "in your face" 3d camera angels for the 3d version of MK, as noted in one of the videos of Kung Lao's fatalities.
I hope the 2d version has the regular camera angles.

EDIT-
Good news, Hector from the development team just answered my question about 3d angles on twitter, and they're just there when you play the 3d version. When you play the 2d version you get the regular camera angles.

As long as the PS3 version isnt scaled down for the 2D version, I will be happy.

I am buying it for both systems anyways. And if theres a special 3D veriso of MK9? il be buying that too

3x MK9 = happy no matter what.

Yeah, I really want to ask about that one, but I don't want to bother the guy too much.
