I wouldn't mind seeing characters original costumes as alts.

For example Raidens first alt would be his MK1 white pyjamas, and his second alt would be his MKII outfit with the blue apron, and so on and so forth.

I think mk should have more than one alt, most other fighters do. It'd solve alot of problems with fans whinging about their fav characters new looks

From the outfits I saw in the trailer... the characters are in dire need of alternates... if not, allow customization to the characters so we can make our own improvements.

It won't solve anything. You're forgetting that people will ALWAYS whine about something. If it's not the attires, it's the stages, the gameplay, the roster, the graphics, the fatalities, the features, the endings, the combos, or the story etc. No matter how good of a game MK could be, there are always gonna be those fans who focus on the negatives instead of all the cool things. It's always "Stop wasting time with Konquest etc. and just make the gameplay better", and then there's those that will say "Where's Konquest?!?". The fact is, everybody has different wants and desires when it comes to MK, yet there's people on this board that act as if what they feel is important is the only thing that should matter.

I think the people that whine the most actually really care. See, most of the negatives are the cool things.

Gameplay, graphics, story.....Imo this should've been mk1 and mk2 only. Not that I don't like mk3. Graphics? I was expecting WAY much better, but w/e. you know.....

I wasn't implying that those things were negatives. I am saying that when it's all said and done, there could be 10 positive things about the game, and only a couple negatives, but people will still only focus on those negatives as if it's a bad game. Say the game has great graphics, great gameplay, great stages, and a great roster...people will whine and complain that there's no alternate costume. It shouldn't have to be that way.

People will always be there to complain. That goes with everything, though. You can't make everyone happy.

As far as alternate outfits go, I hope for at least 2. They've had plenty of time to work on this game, and plenty of time to come up with character concepts. We all know that what we saw in that trailer is not final. I wouldn't even mind if they recycled an older costume for a character as an alternate.

For example, Sub-Zero can have his outfit we saw in the trailer (hypothetically speaking), his unmasked outfit from MK:DA (or MK3 if you prefer), and have a new one.

We all know that MK is very good at recycling ideas. The very first Fatality concept that we have seen was recycled from Shaolin Monks, so why not recycle outfits as well?

On the topic of recycling fatalities, if Liu is gonna be in the game I wanna see his 'Shaolin Soccer' fatality from Shaolin Monks in it. That was amazing. Any fatalities they choose to recycle from SM will look great because of the level of detail they're putting into this game, if Kung Lao's hat slice is any indication.

As for alt costumes, I'd prefer something fresh for the characters, or an new take on a classic costume. I'd like to see a reinvention of Sub-Zero's MK3/MKDA look myself. I wouldn't mind seeing an unmasked Reptile as his alternate either, something akin to his MK4 look. And I'd like something different for Johnny too. As far as I can remember, his alternate costumes from MK4 have always been tuxedos.

I don't want alternates. What's the point of them? Does it enhance their powers? Does it make them become faster runners? I don't think so.

If they do have alternates, then they should be with them already, not to where you have to unlock them. Unlocking characters should be the only thing to unlock, not clothing.

Some characters have ugly costumes. Giving them a second means you might not have to be stuck with one of your favorite characters looking a way that doesn't make you happy.

There are a few characters in DA, Deception, and Armageddon who I play EXCLUSIVELY wearing their alternates and never use the primary. And there are a lot where it's 50/50.

Another thing alternates can do is make it so you have TWO characters occupying the same space, saving time for the developers.

Examples: Human Smoke and Cyber-Smoke don't need to be developed seperately and taking up two spaces on the select screen like they did in Trilogy, they're the same guy! Similar case with the Sub-Zero brothers. They have the same moves so there's no logical reason to design two of them when one costume can be MK1 Ninja Sub and the other can be MK3 Unmasked and Scarred Sub.
Or what about the fact that this game will show Jax both before AND after he gets his bionic arms? That's two costumes.
Shang Tsung starts the game old and gets his youth back? That's two costumes.
A lot of characters go through changes from MK1 to MK3. It's gonna be a long story mode. Those graphical resources are necessary to tell it.

Seriously?

It's not like we need *anything* to "enchace powers" or make characters "faster". I would say that the point of alternates is pretty obvious.

Alternate costumes serve the very good and obvious purpose of keeping things fresh, fun, and interesting for players.

I don't need or want an alternate to make a character more powerful. That's not the point. I want an alternate because it's FUN to play with a different costume instead of being stuck with the same one and get bored of it easily.

That's the point. I still remember the huge uproar of disappointment after it was confirmed that no one in MKvsDC would feature alternates. Granted, most of the primary costumes were amazing, but alternates would had made things a lot more fun.

So far, most characters seen in the trailer are definitely in need of fresh new alternate costumes, specially because most of them feel old and reused.

Than again, it is fair to say that not EVERYONE wants or needs to have an alternate to enjoy the game even more, but I think its safe to say that most fans do.

A good example would be Reptile in MK4, his original costume was average, but the ninja alt was pretty cool, little things like that can really add to a game.

Yeah, I'm a fan of alt costumes. It's just something that adds a small slice of variety to the game. A little something different. Plus, I like unlocking them, just as I like unlocking characters.

I'd love to see at least 5 alts per character, especially if one of the alts has to be a garish MK3 outfit. Just too dang much spandex in that game lol.

I know we won't see that many alts though and we probably won't see a mode that allows you to unlock items to add to costumes or some type of costume customizer or creator.

That's alright.

As long as I have a few choices, I'm happy. It sounds like Ed wants to pack this game with as many secrets as possible and again, nothing but sunshine in my world right now! grin

I probably should have elaborated more. I know people will always whinge but if a character has three or four costumes, the mk team will have a higher chance of pleasing people. eg with sub zero they could have default new alt1 unmasked alt2 mkda ninja alt3 mkd costume. thats just a basic example

So long as the game ships with 1-2 alt for all chars I don't mind paying for more. None of that BS color change crap.
