Character Gameplay Discussion for Mortal Kombat: Chapter Two .::Mileena::.

Figured I'd start a thread discussing each character. Specifically, gameplay, fatalities and costumes. Include storyline if you want, but if this is a retelling of MK-MK3 there is not much to discuss besides maybe a few changes. Whenever I feel like a character has been discussed enough (maybe a couple days or so) then we'll move on to the next character.

Alright so let's begin with the first character, Scorpion.



Scorpion should be the Akuma of Mortal Kombat. A high risk, high reward type character. Moves fast and packs a lot of offense, but doesn't have as much health as others and has punishable attacks. The Spear should be punishable and should receive heavy damage scaling when used in the middle of a combo.

His teleport punch, air grab and leg takedown look like they are back and more useful then before. Another move that he should get back is his hellfire kick. Scorpion should have a solid anti air in this game.

For an alt he could use his MKDA alt where he has no mask on. Just hope we don't see his MK4 costume again. His first fatality has been shown, and his second one is probably going to be his Toasty finisher. Hopefully they turn it up a notch and make it brutal. Maybe after the attack Scorpion can someone one of those demon hands to take the opponent into hell or something, I dunno

Now for the second character, Mileena.



Mileena always felt like a character that should rely on using her special moves as often as possible and stay away from opponents, waiting for an opening.

Her Roll attack should hit low and higher projectiles. It should only pop up for EX versions. Sais are good the way they are and the falling kick is perfect too. Maybe make it a tad bit less punishable.

They need to give her some new moves, maybe a flying grab? She jumps forward to grab the opponent. It can be blocked, but its really quick. It is also punishable.

They need to give her the MKD outfit as an alt. It really was the perfect costume for her and needs to come back

Since Ice Baby's thread is currently covering the story aspect (at least practically speaking), I'd suggest renaming this thread "Character Gameplay Discussion," or something along those lines.

Everyone loves Scorpion; I mean how can you not? His story, his character himself is among the many things that just make him a masterpiece

Moveset

What is truly so awesome about this years move-set is like you said Subman. It looks like they brought back the old Scorpion.. The teleport punch, the spear, the air grab move. Moves you have to love. They can set up HEAVY combos, and with the new X-ray combos I think scorpion can pull of some SICK and DAMAGING combos. Also the old combos we used to do should be back as well, which everyone who played old MK can have a pretty good feel for this MK in that case.

Character/Story

Scorpion, one of the MOST deadly warriors in the Shirai Ryu. He goes under the name Scorpion although his real name is Hanzo Hasashi. In Mortal Kombat I Scorpion defeats and kills Sub-Zero in the tournament. Sub-Zero soul becomes tainted thus making Noob. In MK II a younger Sub-Zero is introduced and competes in the second tournament.

Lets skip to MK4
Quan Chi Tricks Scorpion in think the younger Sub-Zero actually DID have to do with the killings in scorpions family, then scorpion tries to capture/kill the young Sub-Zero. When Quan Chi tells the true story, scorpion is sent to the Netherealm and takes Quan Chi with him.

In MK:DA
Scorpion continues to hunt for Quan Chi in the Netherealm. But is attacked by two demons. These demons go by the name Moloch and Drahmin

In MKD
Scorpion has a new mission sent to him by the Elder Gods. To kill the Dragon King Onaga.

In MKA
Scorpion offers his service to the Elder Gods for resurrection of his people of the Shirai Ryu Clan, and his beloved wife and son. Then when the Elder Gods do so, Scorpions son is then captured by Quan Chi, and Quan Chi takes Scorpions son to the Netherealm. Scorpion then sends his newly "revived," Shirai Ryu clan to get his son back, and kill Quan Chi. Scorpion will not rest until he has done so.

I know for a fact that Scorpion does not have his Toasty fatality. It is another fatality involving his swords that starts with him cutting the opponent at the knees. It's in the screw attack video and the one from inside the MK theater.

That's the only fatality of his that was shown. I'm sure he has another one. And it probably Is a variation of his toasty fatality.

That's the only fatality of his that was shown. I'm sure he has another one. And it probably Is a variation of his toasty fatality.


The fatality that was shown had him cut at the opponent's torso, then decapitating him and slicing the head.

The other one was shown to cut at the knees. If you look at it, you can see it.

I'd like to see Scorpion be one of the slower, high damage characters, or at least average. I'd like them to save the faster character traits for Sub-Zero.

From what I've seen, Scorpion looks killer. When he did his intro, and lit himself on fire, and let out that scream, I got chills. When I think of Scorpion, THAT is what I think of. I hope they make him evil as all hell.

His fighting looks smooth. Since they're focusing on individuality, it would be interesting to see him a bit slower than Sub-Zero, but to do more damage. I'm actually really stoked to play with Scorpion this time.

Scorpion is a ninja, he needs to be fast and act like a glass cannon. Sub-Zero, the old ice grandmaster should play slower with more powerful attacks imo

They have done that before. Raiden's MKD fatalities were essentially the same except in one he blew up too.

Nah Sub-Zero should be the cheap trap guy like he is now, if you could control ice wouldn't you mainly use it to fuck around with people and piss them off? THEN go in for the kill.

But you're right about Scorpion, he should have less health than everybody in exchange for hitting hard and fast

It would be cool if all his attributes increased while he fought in the netherrealm. And I always imagined Scorpion to be faster than subby. I always though Subby should be good at countering and have more powerful attacks. Ice is slow, fire spreads fast.... Get it

no, Scorp shouldn't get stronger in a specific stage. gimmicks like that should stay away

That makes no sense. First off, no. Having Scorpion become stronger when fighting in the Netherealm is like taking a crowbar to the balance of the game. And second, Sub-Zero would be much faster than Scorpion because his cryomancer power would let him slip and slide around his opponents and make him harder to hit. Having Scorpion hit harder than other characters is fine, seeing as he's super natural, so you could chuck that up to some BS explanation for that. But then you'd have to lower his health and defense to compensate for his damage output, making him, in essence the Akuma of Mortal Kombat.

Considering the MK team has now put challenges within the MK game, fighting Scorpion in the netherealm could be one of them. It's already been said in the MK universe that the netherealm makes scorpion stronger so it's not far fetched to make it a challenge. It would be awesome and you could get a big reward for defeating him. And Sub-Zero in the game has a stance that makes him more counter attacking due to his sliding around. He can slide outta the way of attacks. Ice is slow moving therefor subby should move slower than a pissed of fiery Scorpion! Duh people

i would be mad if scorpion had pretty much the same fatality i mean this the new game but maybe u saw wrong. wat i dont understand how scorpion could hav less health would they just make his health bar shorter or he just takes more damgage...thats really throwing me offfurious

Scorpion should have the following moveset, in my opinion:

(note that I'm using the classic system of buttons, some of my inputs are made up)

Spear- B, F, LP
Hellfire Kick- D, D, HK
Teleport- B, D, F, HP
Summon Fire- QCF, LP

Fatalities:

(not including the one we've already seen, I submit some of the classics instead)

Drag You To Hell (basically his flaming hand coming out of the ground from MKT)- B, F, F, HP+LP (sweep distance)
Toasty!- F, F, B, F, LK

Alternate costume can be his MK2 outfit.

Can't the game developers make more than two fatalities for each character? I mean with the new technology, I'm sure they can put in more. I want to also see Scorp's head rip, I keep seeing it in the posters for the game and I really want to see it in the Unreal engine.

Gameplay
-As the games have progressed, Mileena's style has gotten more animal like and sexy. They should come up with a special move or special moves that suits this progression. I can't think of anything at the top of my head. The part where she jumps on Kung Lao and mauls him in one of the game play vids is what I mean. I'm not sure if that was a special move or not, but something along those lines. The sais, ground roll, and air kick all need to stay.

From the game play I've seen, they've done a good job at personalizing her and giving her own style at least in the way she moves and fights. It all looks good so far.

Fatalities
-I'd like to see her inhale fatality from MK2 back. It was always one of my favorites because it was one of the few I actually could perform. It's a classic, but I'm not so sure at all if they could pull it off without it looking tacky. They'd have a hard time making it look cool and realistic, but if it could be done I'd be very happy.

-Her second fatality from MK2 would be great addition as well. Just think of Mileena stabbing her opponent repeatedly in the air, with this gleeful, feral look on her face.

-An idea for a new one, is if she gets on the floor on all fours and inches forward to the opponent in a cat-like, panther like way un-masked, with a evil, gleeful look on her face. The opponent looks terrified as she leaps forward, and Mileena mauls the opponent on the floor. I was thinking she gorges on the opponents stomach/chest area, and when she gets up she does the whole satisfied rubbing thing we've seen at the end. Maybe I didn't explain it very well, but it looks really good in my head!

Costumes
-I get that Mileena's got to work with what she has, but I think her current uniform we've seen is a bit too OTT. I get that's the point and she's supposed to be in your face, but I hope for the alternate they have a bit of a less of a revealing outfit.

OK, Mileena's moveset:

Sai Throw- F, F, HP
Rolling Thunder- D, D, F, LK
Teleport Kick- D, U, HK

Fatalities... once again I pick classics instead of what's been shown:

Sai Fury- Hold HK for 10 seconds, release HK (yea, I went classic, but with a longer requirement)

Face Eater (what Reptile had in MK4)- B, B, F, F, LP

Costumes... I like her look for this game, and I think as an alt she should have her primary from MKD.
