This explains a lot of things, and makes me feel better about the MK team as a whole (not that I ever disliked them). This made me feel good

^^ Thought the world knew all the recent MK abominations was Midways doings, and not the MK Teams. Yeah the MK team designed the games, but when you have a strict time hatchet over your neck, they can only do so much.

This is the first interview that put into words what I thought was the issue in the difference in quality between the Deadly Alliance through MKvsDC years and the leap to the new Mortal Kombat.

Boon basically even said that Midway had no other games/franchises to depend on for making money outside of MK... which sounds about right.

I love that Warner Brothers is basically cutting no corners in letting Boon and co. have whatever they need to make one of the best (if not possibly THE best) Mortal Kombat games. Midway certainly never did that.

I said it on here for years, Midway is holding MK back on what it can really do. So glad Midway is dead.

It sounds like this will be the first MK in a LONG time to get the polish it deserves.

Personally, I'm a bit bothered by the repeat affirmation that WB is giving them the license to do something of great quality. Colour be skeptical, based on what we've seen. It seems to me like it's same shit, different name, in a lot of ways. The reverting design sensibility, the use of familiar resources, the story that's likely to cause as much harm as good. It all sounds a bit familiar, and consistent with some of the problems of the past.

MK2011 has to be one of the most covered and talked about MKs of recent memory, but I hope they're just towing the company line, because it seems completely disingenuous to think an extra few months in development is suddenly going to solve the creative problems people have accused the series of having. It's tough not to be cynical when that line keeps coming up again and again.

Time and an emphasis on quality is bound to help, but if history declares what we're seeing now as any kind of design masterpiece, I'll be stunned. Particularly if Deadly Alliance is any kind of measuring stick! 1993 with a shiney new coat of ugly seems like an easy way to get the ball rolling, but it doesn't seem like a strong way to move forward, or any grandiose improvement.

Obviously that's based on a lot of assumptions and personal taste, but really... the more they bring up the emphasis on quality, the easier it is to feel very cynical about the direction of the game. I'm sure I'm in the minority.
