Did Motaro truly need to make a cameo?

I do not believe spoiler tags are a necessity anymore.

Motaro has got to be one of the unluckiest characters in the series. First made into a humanoid, then cheaply reduced to a background character. In both cases, they could have done him a favor by not including him at all.

In MKA, Motaro could have been replaced by Khameleon (with her own moves and design, like I already said in another thread), and in MK9, he should not have been involved in the story at all. Just because the centaurs were mentioned doesn't mean he had to make an appearance. Rain was also part of MK3's story, and he made no appearance at all in the story mode. Khameleon was excluded yet again, and might not even end up as DLC unlike Rain.

So why was it so important for him to make such a cheap cameo?

What are they soppose to completely ignore Motaro's existance? It's MK1-3. You can't have 3 without Motaro. Whether he's a cameo or not.

despite his recent trend of bad luck, he was still a badass boss in MK3. so he deserves a cameo at least.

If he had to make a cameo, he could have been shown slaughtering military squads (instead of further portraying Johnny as a punching bag) all by himself before going down.

Because he's a great MK character worthy of his little spot in the light, specially considering the circumstances that forced his omission.

I can't help but to disagree with almost everything you wrote in your original post.

I agree that his "humanoid" form was disappointing, however, NRS really did mean well. They wanted to bring ALL the Mk characters for MKA and they tried their best with Motaro.

It sucked and I would have loved to see him in his original form. But, at the same time, I was glad that he (at least) was to be seen again after sooo long.

He's my sister's favorite character. She hated the look, but, she was happy to "see him back" after so long.

As or his role in MK2011, I disagree with you. While they SHOULD have done a lot more and while they COULD have done a lot better, I feel happy with the bits of him that we saw.

His death was awesome. I actually jumped and went WOAH when I saw what Raiden did. It was brilliant and fresh. I'm glad he had a role in the game, even if it was small and short, but, this role was definitely not bad enough for me to WISH he was omitted.

He deserved better, but, what he got was not terrible enough to make me upset.

Well, why not?

Motaro was the general of Kahn's army. The reason Johnny dies. The reason Sindel is promoted. The reason Shang Tsung is sacrificed.

It was meant to be. And I'm glad it happened.

He did not have a super awesome and memorable portrayal, not at all. I wish he did. But, his appearance was not terrible and his death was epic.

I hope that one day they will develop the technology to make a centaur playable in the game.

About the point of you make of Motaro's death and it's significance, everything you mentioned, Sindel's empowerement and all, still could have happened if like I suggested, Motaro was seen taking out military squads on his own before dying. He could even have had dialogue.

And I've never really liked Mileena. Tjhat does not mean that I go around sying she should not be in this game. I respect that some users like her as a character.

I like Motaro, so did many others. He couldn't be put in the game fully, so they gave him a cameo.

If Motaro bores you, why come in here and say he does anyway?

Why make this thread? I can argue why Mileena shouldn't be in this game, and you can argue why Motaro shouldn't have a cameo, but they are conflicting opinions no matter what, so we could do this all day.

I was very happy Motaro got a cameo.
Of course he did. How else could they come up with a cheap convenient reason to kill off most the heroes for cheap shock value?

I believe I posted about this before shortly after the game came off:

"You undid a death scene that you reportedly disliked.. all so you could kill off much better and more important characters than Johnny Cage?! ...AAAAAAHHHH!!!! AAAAAAHHHH!!!"

Pretty much that.

That being said, he could at least have gotten some dialogue.

I've always liked Motaro and wish he some how could have been included. I would rather him have a short cameo than to not appear at all...he was a boss at one point for God's sake so he deserves something.

i like motaro and though i think his cameo was too small its better then not seeing him at all, i agree he should have some speaking time atlast... a scene to make him somewhwat more memorable...

what i really want though is that they release his artwork and 3d render... cant beleive he wasnt in the krypt...:/..

lets make him more memorable by requesting him to be the mko statue :)

Whopper is indeed not a troll. He's one of the few people on here who supports Freddy Krueger that I actually still respect. ^^

Personally, I am no fan of Motaro, but it was nice to see him being part of the Story Mode. And it was nice to see him get killed in it as well. Yes, he needed that cameo so we could be sure that he is now dead.

Of course, no MK character stays dead forever. His soul is probably taken over by Quan Chi like the rest of them. So we might see a zombie Motaro in the future games, however, I really hope not!

Yes. Just so people wouldn't cry about him not appearing in the game or being retconned from existance. He wasn't a possible playable character, so the best thing to do was to explain (story-wise) why he wasn't.

Motaro is just as much apart of the mk1-mkt era as everyone else, at least his death was epic my only wish was that they gave him dialogue, had him have conflict with Sheeva, showed off his arrogance at becoming Shao Kahn's head general, killed several soldiers, and then been taken out as opposed to getting zero development and only appearing twice prior to that.

If he had to die, it could have happened another way. If Sheeva's ending was partially canon, she could still have killed him when rebelling against Shao Kahn.

But no, they had to take the victory of a secondary (if not minor) character, and give it to Raiden. No way we can have Sheeva killing one of the franchise's bosses instead of a main character, after all.

He's a centaur.

One of the toughest Sub-Bosses in the series.

Backstory with the Shokans and Sindel.

He's a centaur. grin

I was truly disappointed that they couldn't find a way to make him a boss character in this game. His cameo just didn't do anything for me. I was really disappointed. He's my second favorite boss character with Kintaro being the first.

I really was hoping that we would "secretly" find a way to face this character. But, we were given a not-so-interesting cameo of him... I really hope, in the future, we see this character make a return, killed or not killed, I really appreciated this character.

I fucking love centaurs, they're cool mythical creatures. And when it comes to mythology... I love one bit of it... Mostly Greek mythology though.

Motaro is an ugly, terrible character whose very race should've never been introduced into the canon.

The second Mortal Kombat movie and MKArmageddon only made him slightly worse.

I will be happy to never see him or his people again.
