They'd sooner bring back Chameleon than Khameleon... They've done it before, odds are they'll do it again.
Reptile, Quan Chi and Kitana all suffered similar fates in MK9-
AWESOME Gameplay tainted by their roles in the story.
However, Kitana suffered far more in that regard, IMO.
Reptile was squandered once again,
but Kitana was squandered meaninglessly,
despite always having a prominent role in games she appears in.
Reptile's "loss" is unfortunate,
but hardly without precedent.
And hey, he has that top-tier mojo to keep him popular regardless.

There was a scene in Family Guy where they had the Rock simulate sex by violently banging two action figures together. Whenever I think about what Reptile needs, it`s pretty much the first thing that comes to mind. I`ve never understood why they just dangled that great big opportunity for Reptile and never followed through on it; they couldn`t have introduced Khameleon with the express intent of proving Reptile is just that stupid.
He definitely got the shaft storywise, but he works for Kahn; jobbing is what he`s supposed to be doing during this portion of the time period so I can forgive it - damn shame that we didn`t get to see him vs Jade over Kitana, though. He got a few cool scenes, at least. The decision to make him never speak, however, is one I don`t at all understand. His voice is one of the few among the cast that really stands out, why deprive him of it?
I think the only reason they brought Cham back before Kham followed was the ninja factor. Reptile fans need to be more vocal about her coming back; there was more discussion about most MKDA and MKD cast members popping up in this game than there ever was for her.
My vote still goes to Cyrax for next.

I don't know. "Meat" wound up in that game over Khameleon too, and Meat in MK4 was NOT even a real character, just a skin they wore. When characters like Chameleon and Meat, who have legitimately ZERO story and background, appeared in Armageddon, but Khameleon, who actually did have an interesting story and prior development, got ignored until the Wii version, it just baffles me a bit.
But I do want Khameleon to return, more for Reptile's sake than her own. Much in the same way I'm not really a Kano fan, but having him in Sonya's life makes HER story more interesting, or Sareena, on her own, is still very good, but coupled with the Sub-Zero brothers, she becomes highly necessary towards enriching their storylines.

No, they just implied the two of them are close friends. It's an angle they got from the Malibu comics, I believe.

First off I would also like to thank Garlador for this thread post. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Excellent explanation lol
I would actually like to see Reptile's storyline stay the same course for MK9 as it did leading into MK4. Still being pissed off over the death of Shao Kahn because he was brain washed into believing the Saurans would be resurrected for his loyalty and services to the Emperor. This will still set the stage for his banishment to the Neatherrealm for the acts of genocide he committed against whichever races he slaughtered.
At this point he would still be a general in Shinnok's army and this is where I would like to see his story take a turn of events. Perhaps he could become self aware of Shinnok's deception against him and change his fate. Or maybe he could sense betrayal from Quan Chi instead. Afterwards I think that this would be a great opportunity for Khameleon to be introduced into the storyline and where she could then come into contact with Reptile and aid him in his conflict with Shinnok and Quan Chi.
Now as far as Reptile's role in MK8 goes, it was definitely weak and undescriptive but for returning fans of the previous games I think it was implied as to what his purpose was. I do think however that his character design was superior to his previous designs with his alternate costume being his best look yet. I also thought his move set and fatalities were great too.
In the past I've always thought Reptile's best costume was his MK4 2nd alternate where he was wearing his green ninja suit with his scales showing through but now I think his MK8 alternate takes precedent. I also wanna add that his MKDA design was by far the worst I've ever seen.
