What's all this about Kuma?
Kuma actually does have some importance in the story. As Heihachi's loyal pet, he tries to obtain the Mishima Zaibatsu from Jin. But is easily defeated and is thrown from a helicopter into the forest. That was his Tekken 6 story.
Kuma's endings since Tekken 3 have always been humorous. From trying to ask Panda out, to almost taking control of the Mishima Zaibatsu, to having taken over the Mishima Zaibatsu only to be overthrown by Heihaichi, to throwing Kazuya and Jin into space and accidently cutting his space suit which pushed him into space. Kuma has had quite a ride.
Roger/Roger Jr. has no bearing on the story whatsoever. Same for Mokujin and all the Jacks.
While Kuma's endings may be funny, he is more important to the story than most characters.

I'm sorry but Kuma has no importance to the story whatsoever. Nether does 7/8ths of the cast it seems in Tekken 6. Everybody was given joke endings that had no impact on the overall story. Out of a cast of 40 some characters only Jin, Kazuya, Heihachi, Lars, and Alisa actually effected the plot.
Anyway on topic, the reason people speak English in Mortal Kombat is because the game was made by English speaking people for english speaking people, so they characters speak English so the audience can understand them.

How do you know its mostly marketed to americans?

Well that would quite counter-productive seeing as:
1. The game is mostly marketed to Americans.
2. The game is not even popular in Japan.
To play devil's advocate, why Roger and Roger Jr. (the kangaroos) are joke characters, Kuma and Panda (the bears) play important roles in the series' storyline. Just sayin'.

Honestly, T5 is the first and last Tekken game I ever played. Realizing that out of a cast of like 40, only 3 of them didn't have boring-looking fighting styles kinda did it in for me, but honestly, if it hadn't been that, it would've been the "comedy" bull**** like the bear and kangaroo.

Give me another plausible country, and I'll correct my statement.

In TTT2 everyone now speaks in there native language lawl.
Well, I don't know... but at the same time, I'm from Brazil and I also speak and write in English. And, like the MK characters, I never really studied the language. I just ended up learning it due to the fact that most of the cultural stuff I consume comes from English speaking places (music, games, books, etc).
But I also think it's funny that in fantasy worlds, everyone can understand each other. The same happens in Street Fighter, and there are more nationalities involved there.

Well, in Doctor Who, the Doctor's TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space) gets inside the mind and translates languages to be heard as english, to an english-speaking human. It also goes the other way and translates english into an alien's native language, if the english-speaking human is talking to an alien.
Maybe the realms have some kind of invisible magic floating around that affects non-realm-natives and allows the Earthrealmers to hear english (or whatever their native language is) and talk in whatever language the Outworlders speak.

I'm actually fed up with English being the de-facto lingua franca. (I mean in real life not the game - it's obvious why the characters speak English being made by English speakers, but even if it weren't translations do happen.) My pet peeve is - What happened to Latin?! At the very least it is spelt phonetically.
amo amas amat amamus amatis amant

The TARDIS translates everything.
Actually, I always assumed Raiden just used magic and it became the fighters native tongue. I.E. Cage hears English, Lao hears Mandarin, Baraka hears girgling grunts, Kenshi hears brail, Sektor hears 1s and 0s, Havik sraeh gnihtyreve sdrawkcab, etc.

Lol, Braille can't be spoken. Kenshi understands English possibly due to his MKDA ending.

Come now, all of the Earthrealm characters are either American or extremely well-traveled and do their business internationally, and thus would certainly need to know English despite being from China or Japan.
It's only the folks from other realms that require an explanation.

And Mileena. With those gigantic teeth of hers.
I just don't get it.
Smoke should probably have a bit of an accent, although I understand why he doesn't. I think Sektor and Sub-Zero and Scorpion kind of do (huge 'kind of') in the recent game, but I think that's pretty much it.

Perhaps they have some lips somewhere inside their mouths. Maybe their throats?

Or maybe they're just pro enough to speak without lips.

The real issue here is how Baraka and Mileena can say any word containing the letter P without having lips.

Check Sindel's MKD ending. There's reference to a spell in an (unnamed) "ancient Edenian language". That's about as close to native as it's going to get, i think.
