Not so much. The pattern of her wearing way less clothes than Kitana does started in Gold. Her Deception primary actually covers slightly more skin by having sleeves.

A few people have already said it already, but Sareena was technically around during the MK2 and MK3 era. I don't know if they could squeeze her in, but I'd cast my full support for her inclusion. I'm still boggled a character with such a kick-ass story and visual design has been in less main MK games than Stryker, Meat, Bo' Rai Cho, and Hsu Hao. That's almost criminal.

Well, I assume Sindel's gonna be in since she was rather important part of the MK3's story and I'd be happy to see her, preferably evil, it just suits her better. Hopefully she gets her hair throw back.

Kitana is obviously the central heroic female character from that MK1-MK3 era, so she is essential. She's closely tied to Shao Kahn, the main villain of that era and it's only logical that we'll see her back. Back in those days, Kitana's story was by far one of the most interesting and intriguing ones, so yeah, she's essential.

These two are the only ones that are essential to the main plot basically, so I'm expecting to see them both back.

Mileena's already in and I'm pretty sure Sonya's gonna be in there too just because she's got lots of fans even though her story sub-plot is rather irrelevant to the main story. Oh wait, is Sonya still a female? Her shoulders and face have been rather suspicious looking in the post-MK4 era...

MY CHOICES: Kitana, Sindel, Jade, Mileena, Ashrah, Nitara and maybe Kira.

PROBABLE ONES: Mileena (in already), Kitana, Sonya, Sindel and Jade.

My opinion still stands. I don't consider her outfits in MK2-MKG to be any different than what she's wearing now. I still believe her MKG outfit is her most revealing.

What does it matter what she wears? What matters is how lethal she is and whats under that mask. She could be wearing a monks robe or just a g-string for all I care.

THE MAIN DEFINITE FEMALES:

Sonya Blade

According to the MK Team she is the Chun-Li of MK, and that's for perfectly obvious reasons. Sonya is a definite icon in the MK Universe. After her incredible and impressive presence in MKvsDC (both: in the game and as a promotional iconic tool that they exploited), I expect them (the Team) to treat her just as amazingly as they did for that game (and as good as they have done in the past with all the other ones). We've heard a lot about Sonya even before the trailer: when WB secured her Trademark Rights, when she was the first confirmed character thanks to Dana Lyn, her strong presence in the crazy MK3 movie pitch, etc.

I hope she returns with all her main classic moves and that gorgeous sexy hairstyle (bangs) they gave her. There really is absolutely NO excuse for not giving her the infamous Leg Grab, Ring Toss, Kiss of Death, Vertical Bicycle kicks, Downward Bicycle kicks (air), Cartwheel Kicks, Wave Punch, and hopefully 1 or 2 new moves.

I'm also looking forward for a storyline that explores very deeply her relationship with Kano (we know why they hate each other, but its time to see it in a new intense way! they even worked together before being captured in MK2!!), with Johnny Cage (hopefully her potential lover), with Jax (which was beautifully done in MKvsDC, it was just not enough), with her SF team (assuming they appear in the storyline like they did in MK1), with Raiden, with Kahn (what did he do to her when he captured her?), etc etc etc. It doesn't all have to be about SF and Black Dragon members, you know.

I truly hope they explore her emotions, reactions, personality, etc (I mean, she's suddenly dragged into a supernatural world filled with demons, magic, etc, she has to play a crucial role saving the world, and she has had personal losses that she has to deal with on top of everything). I can't wait.

Sindel

The mighty sexy crazy Queen of MK. I absolutely love Sindel. She played a crucial role during the events of MK3. I expect her to return with all her classic gory. MKD treated her well, but not with the respect she truly deserved (where the hell did that amazing Hair-grab move go?). I was disappointed that the main focus of her story in MKD was rescuing Kitana, when there was so much potential to explore regarding those ancient secrets she alone knows. Her ending was one of the best in that game.

I hope they bring her back in a twisted evil way with a fantastic beautiful look and with updated special moves that make us go WOW. She is one of the most unique and special characters of the game. SO much creativity to explore!!

Mileena

The absolute evil bitch of MK. I am more than happy to see she is back and looking even more crazy than ever (for those who have not seen her fatality...WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!?!?!?!?!). I do hope to see her in an alternate more similar to that of MKD (highly acclaimed by the entire public in general), and I certainly hope that she gets the same amount of spotlight she has been getting ever since MKD.

It was truly the biggest disappointment when we found out that Kitana took her spot in MKvsDC, specially cause we all know that Mileena would had been a much better candidate for that game. That's one of the main reasons I'm glad that they are showing her in E3 (along with Cage, Sektor, etc.), these are all the characters that were meant to be in MKvsDC!

I hope they make her a tragic heroine, but still as twisted, sadistic and evil as ever. She has been extremely well treated by the team and very well received by fans thanks to her MKD appearance, and ever since, she has gotten more spotlight and attention than Kitana and the rest of the Edenian crew.

THE ONES THAT HAVE GREAT CHANCES OF MAKING THE CUT

Jade

Like Sindel, she made an awesome comeback in Deception, but all her potential was wasted with that stupid quest of freeing for Kitana. I adore her rivalry with Tanya and I certainly hope they make these character as mysterious and secretive as she was during MK2 and MK3. Jade has the personality and the perfect design to shock us all. I hope she makes it and I hope they treat her good!

Sheeva

Considering the number of confirmed playable characters, I assume she has high chances of making the cut. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to make her be there only as a cameo for story mode and story purposes.

I loved Sheeva in MK3, but I will admit that I wasn't too happy with her in MKA...they really didn't do her any justice (though that outfit was super sexy).

Kitana

A classic and popular character, I think its kind of safe to assume she is back, specially because was featured in MK2 and that's one of the games where we are traveling back to. But, if they are thinking about limiting the spots for the female characters, I rather see her as a background character playing a role for story mode and not playable at all. After MKU, MKSM, MKA, and MKvsDC, I think we've got enough of the damsel in distress.

All the other Edenians have better personalities and deserve a spot more than the Princess. If they are thinking about sacrificing Jade, Tanya, or Sindel for Kitana, I hope they reconsider like they've done in the past and chose the others over her. Seriously, we haven't seen enough of Jade, Sindel and Tanya, and they were truly brilliantly done in the last games (the problem was they didn't deliver enough). Still, I believe Kitana's chances are high.

THE ONES WITH LOW CHANCES THAT DEFINITELY DESERVE A SPOT

Tanya

Sure, she debuted in MK4, but with these whole "time travel" thing it is not hard to imagine Tanya being around the timeline of MK1-MK3. She was exquisitely designed in MKD, and the team really took the time to pay a lot of attention to her character to make her unique and distinctive. She is brilliant, I hope she makes it (if not playable, she should at least have a cameo for story purposes!).

Asrah, Nitara, Li Mei, and Frost

I certainly hope to see them playable, and I prefer them over Sheeva, Khameleon, Kitana and even Jade, but, their chances are (sadly) not so good. They all debuted after MK4, and considering this game takes place during the major events of MK1 through MK3, maybe none of the newly introduced characters (males included) will make an appearance as playable.

I certainly hope for them to be included in the storyline without screwing things up and completely changing the canon official story as we know it, but, I certainly hope they are cleverly introduced (even if only for cameo or story mode purposes) and very well developed (if made playable with bios and endings).

These are all females with great amazing potential.

Sareena

Even though she was introduced for the first time in MKA, she is definitely a character with potential. I wouldn't mind seeing her in, I really like her, but, I honestly prefer all the above ones before her. She was very well received by fans, and I think her introduction in MKA (MKU if you want to get technical) tells us that the team is aware of her potential.

THE ONES THAT ARE NOT LIKELY TO MAKE THE CUT, AT ALL

Khameleon

A cool character with an interesting storyline, however, she is not nearly as classic/iconic as the main ones or as interesting as the newly introduced females. She would be a wasted spot when someone like Nitara is wondering around.

Kira

I really like Kira (even though I despise her unoriginal set of moves, etc etc etc, we all know that story already), but, I feel like she doesn't stand a chance when all those other females are circling around and considering her MK story and black dragon plot started with MKD. I would be very happy and pleased to see her in a cameo or have a small role during the storyline, but I certainly don't expect or want her to be playable.

I love seeing her in Kahn's arena. That was great.

Frost

Even though I listed her as someone who deserves a spot, I'm almost certain she won't get it because Sub-Zero will really be the only "ice star" of the game.

Pretty much most of the new females after MK4, but not all of them. Nitara, for example, has been around since forever, and her inclusion in this story wouldn't really affect or change much. Ashrah, however (as much as I love her) would be a problem considering her story with the Sword, Quan Chi, hell, etc. and the way it was developed and introduced in MKD and done in MKA. I don't want to change that or screw that up because she is fantastic.

So, bottom line: MY PERSONAL 6 FEMALES for this game:

1. Sonya (check!)
2. Mileena (check!)
3. Sindel
4. Jade
5. Tanya
6. Nitara OR Sareena (soooo hard! I like Nitara better, but if its gotta be a competition, its got to be between the 2 "new ones", not against a classic).

That was tough, cause I really love Li Mei, Ashrah, MK3 Sheeva, and Frost (for example), but I'm not sure they would fit well without screwing them up (and the canon storyline).

It's pretty damn safe to say that Sonya, Kitana, Sindel, and Jade will be in the game with Mileena. Sheeva is the only one in doubt due to her lack of a big fanbase (which is a shame because I do like her and I would be happy if she returned).

So that's five females in a roster of 26. That sounds about right (possibly even one short), given the ratio of women:men in the past MK games.

Though that DLC spot intrigues me. I can easily see them putting Sareena there (along with Quan Chi, Shinnok, and possibly Fujin and Tanya). Why? Not many of the casual fans know her, but the hardcore ones sure do, and those of us that are interested in her story will probably buy her (who's more likely to buy DLC, casuals or longtime fans?). But I can't see them putting her on the regular roster and displacing someone from the first three games.

As much as I'd love to see Tanya, I'm not getting my hopes up at all. Though as one of her fans, I'd absolutely LOVE to see how/why she became a traitor to Edenia...and better yet, why she became so damn evil as a resident of a realm of peace of tranquility. Maybe Shao Kahn had a corrupting influence upon her?

I'd like to see a little more inspiration and imagination in the females costumes. Less of the skimpy bathing suit styles and something more deserving of their characters.

Kitana is supposed to be a princess yet she walks around half naked like she's going to the beach.

Sonya in the last few games is a style I like, it fits her character and makes sense.

Agree! MKDC's bangs were such a small detail, but I, too, find it sexual . I've mentioned in another thread that I definitely want that whole outfit to serve as a basis for her new one. Trademark moves are a must. Don't worry, they'll include them - no one in the MK Team is deranged to the point of leaving them out. Fingers crossed for a couple of NEW moves, though! It doesn't all have to be a carbon copy of the past! I'd also like to add that I'd rather they give her a few new moves in place of the Wave Punch, and add some oomph to the Cartwheel Kick.

In regard to your thoughts on her story, I gotta say you totally swaggajacked me! Everything you said is exactly what I've been thinking and preaching on other threads!



Super-agree! It would be great to add a subtle hint of Sonya and Johnny's film relationship in the story. I'd love it to be as fucking hilarious as it was in the movie. I still laugh at her disgusted groans and eye-rolls everytime he said something to her LOL.

I also love how they did her relationship with Jax in MKDC. I thought it was gonna be predictable since it's been there since MK2, but I found myself enjoying their scenes VERY much! They have such incredible chemistry with one another, and I LOVED how it wasn't always business with them. They were not just partners, but very close, dynamic friends.

Yes, I'd enjoy seeing her boss her SF team around before being dragged to the tournament.

I hadn't thought of the Sonya/Khan interactions! Those are some extremely intriguing scenes that just HAVE to be included in the story! I wonder what they said to each other when she was under his hold! It would be a very dramatic, anger-filled, deliciously juicy scene and I MUST see it.

I adore everything they've done with her so far. Her Fatality is an act of sex. Just BEAUTIFUL, in a sadistic, evil Mileena sort of way. Now I just hope her story is also as incredible. PLEASE don't have her living in Kitana's shadow throughout the whole game! I want MIleena's story branching out in different directions in her unending quest for ultimate power. I have high hopes for this, given all the attention the MK Team has given her since Deception!

I started to really like her in MK Deception, the way she screwed everyone lol. Her rivalry with Jade is very appealing, has a lot of potential for expansion.

I'm fairly positive that all the girls from the first three MK games will make it. But fighting games almost always have a low M:F ratio so I wouldn't be shocked if all we get are those five girls.

The banshee will be in. And she will be evil, hence a lot less redundant. This is good. I was about to make a post saying that I think it would be better for the story if they left her out, but I think it would piss too many people off. But, I mean the story is Raiden sending a message back in time to stop Shao Kahn from coming to power, isn't it? The first thing I imagine Raiden doing, is frying Shang Tsung (who was a HUGE part of Shao Kahn's success) either before or after Liu Kang defeats him.

I was under the impression that Shang Tsung was part of Sindel's resurrection, but it turns out it was Shinnok. Then taking out Shang Tsung doesn't really effect Sindel. But wouldn't Sindel being in the game create more Earthrealm settings? Ugh. I wish they just went linear with the story.

Kitana
She should definitely be. She is a central part to the MK2 and MK3 stories. It'll be interesting to see how she goes from bad-ass assassin to heroic warrior. This could be the good showing Kitana needs. I hope they really emphasise how deadly Kitana can be, and don't make her too much of a lost girl. Remember, canonically she killed Mileena in the original timeline.

I can't think of a convincing reason that Sonya Blade will not be in this game. I'm not her biggest fan, as I find her story so, so bland -- but maybe it will change. It doesn't appear that she is captive in the arena level -- so maybe Raiden saves her from being captured? Then what happens to Kano? We don't get him aligned with Shao Kahn, and keep in mind that Kano was also a big part of keeping Kahn alive in the time between MK3 and Deadly Alliance.

Maybe Sonya and Kano are forced to fight alongside each other? Maybe Kano will kill Sonya when he first gets the opportunity? Maybe Sonya will kill Kano, and piss off Raiden?

Sheeva
It wouldn't make sense to leave her out. I think the villains from MK1 would make sense to be dead if this is about Raiden getting on top of things early. Sheeva looking for revenge against Raiden, perhaps? With Goro not losing to a mortal, perhaps the Shokan retain favour, and there is no reason for Sheeva to betray Kahn and get killed. I always liked to envision that Sheeva turning on Kahn was the only reason Kitana got to Sindel so easily, and Kahn's grip on the realms was weakened enough for Liu Kang to defeat him.

Jade
I feel she's redundant, but like Sindel, if she's left out people will cry. Her story needs to be tweaked somehow, though. Maybe she sees less honour in Kitana this time around, for some reason, and she never chooses to fight against Shao Kahn -- remaining a villain in this arc? It's not a matter with should be back with Jade, unfortunately -- she'll be in.

Khameleon
If they decided to give her a new look, some of her own specials, and a story that really focused her as a threat to Shao Kahn's rule -- then yes. She needs to be similar to Reptile, without being a Frost to his Sub-Zero. It would actually be interesting to see her succeed in turning Reptile against Shao Kahn. But if they leave her out, no loss.

Sareena
A lot of people have talked about the possibility of her being in. I don't mind that idea. Mythologies established her existence before now. Would she be doing Shinnok's work? MK1-3 had Shinnok aiding Shao Kahn behind the scenes to further his own goals. It'd be interesting to see a Sareena fighting for Kahn with torn conflictions.

Li Mei
I know background characters very rarely make it in, but I'd like to see her and Kira in just because they are "there." Shouldn't they be imprisoned for a reason? At the time of this story, Li Mei would have been under Shao Kahn's rule, minding her own business. Perhaps Raiden contacts her because she sees the warrior she'll become after Bo' Rai Cho -- but the Dragon King's taint holds her back. I'd like to see it, but it won't happen.

Nitara
In the MK1-3 timeline, she'd have been floating around, looking for a way to take her realm from Shao Kahn's control. It would make sense to have her admist the chaos -- fighting with Earthrealm, in fact. Again, I don't see it happening, but I would love it.

Frost
The concept of a female Sub-Zero didn't thrill me in the first place. She was never discovered until MK: Deadly Alliance, anyway. I also have a feeling we'll be seeing two Sub-Zeros in this game somehow. We don't need a third.

Ashrah
She'd still be in the Netherrealm. I don't know if bringing her up early serves any real purpose to the story. She was never a great ally to either Raiden or Shao Kahn. I think she gets forgotten here.

Kira
Like Li Mei, I'd just like to see it because she's in the background. Maybe Raiden sees the influence she'll have in later conflict, and tracks her down before Kabal does to get her on side. She'd need her own moves, though. I'd be all for this, as I don't think the Deception characters got their chance t shine (although the same goes for pretty much every character post-MK2).

So, if it were up to me, I'd have:

Jade (as a villain)
Khameleon (as essentially a new character)
Kira (as an unlikely hero)
Kitana
Li Mei
Mileena
Nitara (as an unlikely hero with her own agenda)

That's 11 female characters. Too many? Perhaps, actually. That leaves room for only 15 male characters. Creatively, I think I would cut Sindel, Jade and Khameleon before I cut some of the fresher females, though, to be perfectly honest.
