Massive network website, Examiner has recently reported that a Mortal Kombat: Game of the Year Edition has been listed by retail giant Amazon on their France website.

Whilst details are scarce of it's contents, it could be speculated that it will be packaged with all the released DLC including Freddy Krueger, Skarlet, Kenshi, Rain and the additional character skins which were released as compatibility packs. The alledged GOTY Edition is currently listed for release on February 28th 2012 for European territories and carries a price tag of €39.99 Euros (Approximately $53.49 US Dollars) available on both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Update: Amazon France has since removed this title from their database, potentially sparking the possiblity that this GOTY Edition is real and that they have leaked it's presence early similar to what happened with the Mortal Kombat: Arcade Kollection. We will have more details on this exciting prospect once and if they become available.

Meanwhile, Netherrealm Studios Creative Director, Ed Boon has recently been tweeting about the long-awaited upcoming patch for the digitallly released Mortal Kombat: Arcade Kollection. Whilst not confirming a concrete date for the patches release or specifics of it's contents. Below are the tweets taken directly from Ed Boon's Twitter Account.

For those who are transitioning into the realm of digitally released video games, Mortal Kombat 2011 was released on Xbox Live's Games On Demand service. Weighing in as a 6.78GB download, it carries a price tag of $59.99 US Dollars and also comes with a Kombat Pass enabling you to play the game online. I paid 80 bucks back when it first came out just for the game

I should of just waited

but fuck waiting i can never wait for MK its one of the game for me that I must play at release

I'm afraid I won't be interested in a Game of the Year edition of Mortal Kombat. I'd rather see that effort go towards an entirely new MK game, preferably a sequel. I can't see anyone paying full price for a game that just has a few new characters and stages, so this must add a lot of new content (At least ten characters, several new stages, and an expanded story mode with all the stuff that was apparently cut from MK9's) to justify the cost. I just saw an ad for Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom which adds 11 new characters and some other stuff for only $39 or something like that.

I am exited for the patch for MK Arcade Kollection though. Hopefullt it's something that will enhance the game beyond simlpe tweaking and fixing glitches. I'm still wishing for an HD option as unlikely as it is.

For that price, unless you didn't buy the game originally, there is zero incentive to buy GOTY edition.

They would have to add a ton of additional content to justify nearly a fully price purchase in my opinion as it stands now, if you already own the game, you'd be better off just buying all the DLC on your own.

I won't pass judgement till I see what they have for us.

Actually, I really hope this GOTY edition is nothing special, because:

1) I really don't want to be tempted into spending another huge amount of money for a game that I already own

AND

2) I rather they save all of that content + time for the sequel or next adventure game...if not, it should be DLC.

I know, its a selfish statement (#1), but, I can't deny that I'd be very very annoyed if this edition includes a whole bunch of new things besides the already available DLC.

I know no one is forcing me to buy anything, but, if GOTY really has tons of extra content and features and even characters, I just think its BULLSHIT considering their decision to not do any more DLC for MK9. This is specially because of all the huge hype they gave the whole DLC experience, which was lacking and underwhelming, imo.

It's just going to be core game + DLC. And MK9's DLC is nothing huge, good deal for those who haven't bought the game though.

Yea, GOTY Editions usually contain all the DLC and nothing else.

They should throw in a free Kode for the Arkcade Kollection too, That'd be nice.

Oh you mean selling it used to some place like Gamestop? And then only get $20 back when your originally spent $60+DLC just to turn around and buy a GOTY Edition that is almost a duplicate of what you're selling? Yeah I usually try to avoid getting ass raped like that.

I'd prefer eBay or another auction site over game selling companies. As for the DLC, you could create a buyer profile and sell it along the game or just think it as a "support for Edward Baboon".

True. Most GOTY editions don't contain anything but the original game + all DLC at a discounted price. Very few games actually add more content that wasn't already available. Forza 3 is one of the very few games that comes to mind.

As for those complaining about the price being too high, that is listed in Euros, and most EU games do cost more than they do in the US, when you convert the currency back to USD. Most likely the price will be $40 USD, and the cost of the game currently listed digitally on XBL & PSN respectively will most likely be discounted when the hard copy of GOTY is released.

I am astonished if we won't get the leaked Skarlet alternative costume at all but I'd like to think that it will be part of the GOTY edition no matter what Ed Boon tells us in his Twitter page.

Speaking as someone who strongly advocates for physically preserved data as opposed to some ephemeral DLC bullshit that's only available until the company randomly decides to close down the servers,this is fantastic news. It's a shame that NRS won't take advantage of the opportunity to add even more skins,fatalities,arenas and other awesome shit into the game,but I'll be buying the fuck out of this thing regardless.

I agree, I need all of my stuff in physical format. BUT, Alot of these GotY type editions have codes for free download and don't actually feature the content on disc.
