Mortal Kombat got my vote for best fighting game, but I had to go with Portal 2 for best DLC. I really liked Freddy, but the Portal 2 DLC was free and really high quality.

On a non-mk note: Does anyone think Dead Space 2 was unfairly overlooked in the voting? I think it is easily one of the best games of the year and had some of the best graphics. I guess it's easy to overlook games that came out in the beginning of the year.

I was really surprised at Dead Space 2's absence everywhere. Sure, it came out earlier this year, but still, it's one of the most jaw-dropping experience ever created in a video game.

Actually, there are a LOT of snubs. Witcher 2 not in "Best RPG" category (though neither is Two Worlds II)? Where's even a casual mention towards L.A. Noire? For that matter, where is the "Best Platformer" category? We had huge platformers this year, from Rayman Origins to Mario 3D Land to Alice: Madness Returns, just to name a few.

There were so many quirky other games that should've gotten a mention somewhere. Shadows of the Damned comes to mind.

On subject, I of course voted for Mortal Kombat. But then again, I also voted honestly. I genuinely believe it to be the best fighting game of this year (and the past several years, for that matter). I might have voted for another DLC, but, well, honestly, Freddy is the only DLC on that list I've purchased and played, so he got my vote.

You are correct.
As of now, in the Xbox Live Marketplace, he is #22 on the Top Downloaded DLC. Impressive, last month I think he was in the 40s.

The Witcher 2 is in the Best PC category. It makes more sense being that it's temporary only for the PC, while the X360 won't see it until next year.

And I'm not feeling how SpikeTV did some of the categories either.
The lack of Best Platformer is disappointing, even though I haven't touched a Platformer for a long time but I don't discriminate. I want all types of genres listed and every popular known game that released this year listed.

What the fuck is with the "Best Xbox 360 Game" category?
Batman: Arkham City is not an Xbox360 exclusive. Who fucking does that?!
"Best PS3 Game" Category. All PS3 exclusives are listed. Like it should.

And I'm surprised that Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition is not listed in Fighting Game of The Year.

Objectively speaking, the only new move he really brought to the forefront was that sleep inducing green goo from the sky, which is a cool move and all.

The other moves aren't really unique to Freddy, not that it's a bad thing, but just an observation I'm making on the subject.

I can't recall opponents from previous games, not including MK2011 to have their projectiles walk across the ground or pop up close/med/far from the ground. I find those unique.

Freddy's ground projectile is similar to Kung Lao's ground hat and Kabal's ground saw.

Shinnok in MK Armageddon has the ability to make his demon hand come from the ground and do damage to the opponent, fairly similar.

These things might be slightly different or have a different animation, but they're essentially the same.

If we were discussing Freddy's fatalities...then yes I would say he brough something unique to the table, but that's a different matter entirely.

I have zero problem with people liking or voting for him and I can acknowledge some of his unique traits, but I'm just saying.

Ehh, well, with Kabal and Kung Lao, weren't those just like grinders in some fashion? Well, Kabal's was anyways. I mean, I'm just interested that it was walking hands that went after the opponent. I have no idea why I'm interested in that but I am.

And with Shinnok, his hands were original. but didn't he summon those instead of punching the ground and the spikes came up? That too I liked. It felt more... elemental in some fashion wouldn't you think so?

Because in some aspects, let's say they were to have some Earth elemental dude in the game, he would of course have it where he could easily punch the ground and an earthquake popped up underneath their opponent's feet.

Then you got Jax that does the same thing, but he's got it differently in some way.

Originality...

I'm just gonna say that Shinnok's summon hand thing is waaay different than Freddy's ground claw thing.
Shinnok's hand grabs the opponent, shakes them and then toss them back. Freddy's, it just pops the opponent up.
The only similar concept they have is that "something comes out of the ground".

@Icebaby I'm certainly not implying that he's a bad or unoriginal character, just that his moves are inspired by other peoples moves to a degree.
I did like Shinnok summoning his judgment fist, it felt very dark and was a nice reference to his MK4 fatals.

I'm acknowledging some of the things that I believe are truly unique with him, the rest is just my observations, if you feel he's original, more power to you, I'm just voicing my thoughts.

My point was simply that a claw or hand coming out of the ground isn't that radically different, the effect is different, but that's like saying Sheeva and Jax's ground pounds aren't really similar because Sheeva's ground pound doesn't pop the opponent up for a combo whereas Jax's ground pound does.

The general concept is still essentially the same, super natural entity summons hand/claw to attack opponent.

It really pisses me off that we have to "earn" these character renders when they should have been released as part of their marketing before the game even came out.

Give me something I haven't seen already. Seriously.

Thank you for saying that.

Their whole "marketing" and "promotion" of the majority of the characters and their "reveals" was a disappointing underwhelming lazy mess.

Kratos and Freddy got more attention, individually, than the majority of the real MK cast....how wrong and lame is that?

And Scorpion and Sub-Zero were so shoved down our throats (more than ever before) to the point that even the guys at NRS were making jokes and comments about all the angry and annoyed complaints they were receiving from the fans...and still, they changed nothing.

And don't even get me started on the whole DLC extra costumes and extra Fatalities situation.

I hope they change and spice things up for the next one. If the whole "process, follow and wait" and "extra DLC" for the next game is anything like it was for this one, well, I'll definitely not waste my time.

I never really cared for this award ceremony... it just doesn't seem to take itself seriously.

That being said, I voted for MK9 for best fighter. KoF:XIII and UMvC3 are both incredible games, though. It's just KoF left a sorry taste in my mouth with XII, and UMvC3 just isn't enough content to be able to even compete with MK9.

In regards to DLC... I'd put Freddy at the worst of the year, effectively making the game worse in my opinion. Rain, Skarlet and Kenshi all deserve to be nominated over that trashy mutilation of a loved character that never belonged in Mortal Kombat in the first place.

If you think that the trend of guest characters would end with MK9, then you are wrong.

One of the worst things to ever happen in fighting games and if you wanna get it done with you should start flaming Ed's Twitter account !

Oh, no I'm not making it seem like you don't think he's original at all, I was just questioning something because I forgot all about Kabal and Kung Lao's ground move and Shinnok's hands. I just thought maybe they were completely different from one another despite being ground moves. That's all I was trying to get out of it.

Really amazing that I don't remember these moves when they were right in my face the entire time.

Well Freddy has some cool moves, though.

It's a lot to remember all the different moves and most of us try to forget Armageddontongue

Voted for MK of course.

I never thought I'd see Freddy Krueger nominated for DLC of the year.(Voted for him)

I guess now people can see how really important he was to the game seeming he got nominated for DLCOTY, it was a smart move adding him in instead of Tanya or whoever.

Important implies that a character was essential for success, he was not.

Now surely he is popular and well liked and he sold well, but MK sold well before Freddy was confirmed DLC.

Rain, Skarlet, and Kenshi are cool and all too, but they also weren't what I'd call "important" because the game sold well without them.
