Old Fatalities

It really irritates me how they just think they can just keep remaking old fatalities over and over again. Sure they're nostalgic and all, but you can only function off nostalgia for so long. I want new fatalities. New ideas. I'm sick of seeing all these modern day remakes of old fatalities. We've seen them a million times.

I swear, if one of scorpion's fatality slots is wasted on a boring old toasty, I'm going to be so pissed.

I think it is ok if there were more fatality slots. Like they had a classic or two, but also a couple new ones. OR if they used old fatalities, but did something different with them. Like instead of scorpion just pulling off his mask and burning them alive he could pull his mask off, set fire to their upper half, and then stop. He would then watch the opponent fall to his knees and shakingly reach for his burned face, screaming, while the flesh and muscle burns off of him. Scorpion would then pull out his spear and stab them in the face, putting them out of their misery. (I know I'm sick.)

Well its confirmed about each character having only two fatals and we have seen both of Scorpions so I wouldn't worry about that. Unless it is DLC eventually.

Oh god, it's soooo horrible that they're reusing fatalities.

So what. You're more pissed that they're reusing them rather than being stunned with how beautiful the insides of a human looks like when Kung Lao slices them up with his hat? How gorgeous the spinal cord looks like when it's ripped from the front of the body? How a head gets easily unattached to the neck after it's been bitten off by a girl that men drool over?

We got a beautiful game coming to us at the beginning of 2011. You're more aggravated that a game that's based on MK1-3 is using fatalities that these characters had back then? Oh what is the gaming word coming to?

We have? I'm only aware of the one where he takes the swords off his back and cuts the guy all apart then slices their head in half in mid-air.

I think some people are confused and think that one and the torso kick are 2 seperate ones, when they are 1 in the same. He slices above their legs and then their neck and kicks the torso out, only to finish it off by cutting their head in half in mid air.

Hmmm that could be, I didn't really ponder that. For some reason I thought I read somewhere from someone who was there that these were his two:

1. He cuts your neck and then your waist and then kicks your torso out leaving your legs falling and your head flying.

2. Cuts your legs off at the knee and then slices your head off and then watermelons your dome as it falls through the air.

But I guess those are similar so maybe they are all in one. Time will tell.

Graphics don't make a game, my friend. And at this point you're bound to say "neither do fatalities", and really.. we're both right. I'm not going to throw a little fit and boycott the game or anything. Everything seems to be going well with this, and it's looking like it may be the best MK game in a while. I'm just saying I wish they would move on to something we haven't seen in terms of fatalities, because it really isn't all that amazing/shocking/interesting if we've already seen it done over and over again in previous games.

Well I'm happy with the fact that a lot of the fatalities seem to be two combined into one, which means we both get to see our favorite classics AND those characters's seconds will be something completely new.

Yes, Kung Lao's second is from Shaolin Monks. But it's his BEST one from Shaolin Monks, so what's to complain about?

Johnny and Sub-Zero's seconds could be absolutely anything.

And Mileena's and Sektor's are completely new.
I see absolutely nothing to whine about on the Fatality front.

That could be how it is, but IMO that would be kinda lame. They are so similar I don't see why 1 of those shouldn't be something involving his Spear or Fire. I guess time will tell.

I'm wondering what they'd have in store for the "toasty" fatality. Like, do they have the technology to make it look like the skin is boiling and melting off? Or the clothing burning up with the skin? I'm amazed with what they've pulled off so far (watching Sub-Zero's clothing become realistically stained with blood as Kung Lao drags his body down the spinning hat looks insane), so I wonder what else they're capable of.

Certain fatalities are character signatures. Sonya's and Kitana's kisses, Sub's Spine Rip, Scorpion's Toasty, Kung Lao's Hat Decapitation, Liu's Dragon, Kano's Heart Rip. It's practically part of their character. Taking it away would seem rather....off.

Frankly, I like seeing them replayed and altered with the newest technology, but I can see where you're coming from. I remember a few people were excited when Scorpion's Toasty came back in MKvsDC after a two game absence.

I think it's about finding the right balance between differing the moves appropriately and not being overexposed.
I take everything I said in this thread back because all the fatalities I have seen have been great.

I remember how great it was when MK2 improved over MK1 in the fatality/friendship/babality/stage department. You could almost go up the entire ladder without watching the same finishing move. I would love to see this MK do the same but stick to just fatalities and stage ones. It would be nice if each character had more than two finishing moves. How great would it be to unlock finishing moves as you progressed through the game?

The fatalities look fantastic, I have no idea why people are complaining. OH NO, EVERYTHING IS THE SAME! SOMETHING NEW PLZZ! really? Lol, I don't recall Sektor having a fatality in any of the game's he has been in where he shoots a rocket to blow up your body into pieces, only to have him lock on to your flying body parts and shoot them with 4-5 rockets to leave no remains of his opponent. There is going to be new fatalities. Chill out.

So far, I'm loving the fatalities. They are getting a modern make-over and they are looking great.

Mileenas is disgustingly gruesome, Kung Lao's Buzz Saw is just fucking nasty, Sektor's is amazing (one of my favourites so far), Scorpion's is fantastic, Johnny Cage's is a mix of his Decapitation/Body Torso which is great, Sub-Zero's spine rip looks amazing, and Reptile's Acid Bath is just down-right dirty. We have seen a glimpse of Nightwolf's where he just throws his axe into his opponent's face, but I doubt that's the end of it.

Loving the fatalities so far. I can't wait to see what the rest of the cast of characters can do.

You cant even compare the old fatals with these ones. All the new details and gore seen in these make em well worth revisiting. I mean, Kung Laos fatality in MKSM did not give me the same impact the new one did.

A cool way to end Nightwolf's would be to use the hatchet that's embedded into his opponent's face as a lightning rod and have lightning shoot down and have their head explode.

if graphics DO make the game, why does everyone STILL prefer MKll to any of the others?

I actually love the idea of old fatalities brought back in a cinematic and stylezed form. Especially cause... and lets be honest here.... there aint much left to do that wouldnt feel totally forced and awkward.

I only wish Scorpion's Spaghetti Time fatality was done with his spear like in MK2 instead of sword. Its still cool nonetheless.

Oh... why I call it Spaghetti Time u say?

lol at the vid.

I also kind of wish it was more true to the MK2 version. A nice compromise would be to use the spear for the neck and torso slice, but the sword for the head split. That may have been too clumsy in practice, though.

I'm really hoping there is more to it and it's not just a copy of his MKD fatality. The lightning rod hatchet description reminds me of his MK3 fatality.
