In my opinion, all the character's original storyline are better than the "new" ones. The fact we know about them and set the backbone of the mythology of the series says it all. MK9 didn't give us anything new or interesting about the storyline or characters. MK9 to me ,seemed like a cheap knock off and alt shock value storylines, of the original games.

What if in the alternate character storylines. What if they did something to make it true like...

- Liu Kang's brother Chow did exist when he and him were adopted by shaolin monks.

- Raiden and Shao Kahn are really brothers.

- Sonya's partner for real this time.
