Popularity of Characters.
Popularity of Characters.
Hello, I was reading through the character article (http://mortalkombat.wikia.com/wiki/Mortal_Kombat_%282011_video_game%29), and that part cought my atention:
It was confirmed on Ed Boon's Twitter that Chameleon and Hsu Hao will not be returning for Mortal Kombat 9. There will be many other unpopular or "clone" characters not returning along with them.
Since I'm fairly new to Mk, I was wondering which characters count as "unpopular" or clone characters?

Pretty much everyone created after MK3 was unpopular. There are a few exceptions of course.

Ya I admit I did like the originality of those characters I wish the mk team would have had more time to have developed these characters but obviously they were rushed when they were with midway, the only characters I hated were Hsu Hao,Mavado,Kobra,Kira and any other character who used the same moves as another! and MK4 characters (epically Quan Chi

My least favorite character was Dairou. I HATED that little elf dude. I think he actually played pretty well, but he just looked stupid. I actually liked Hsu Hao, especially his fatality. You might could say I even liked him more than *gasp* Kano.

We want Havik, he was full of win. Seriously his fatalities were so original and cool looking.

Technically, they gave him Quan Chi's Leg beat fatality, only Havik knocked their head off instead of beating them to death, lol.

Dairou, and Darrius are the most unpopular characters imo.

From what I read around the forums, it looks like people seem to think Dairou and Darrius can be salvaged if they stick to their original concepts of the rogue samurai and Red Dragon member respectively.

I agree with that idea.

Really? I hope they never come back. Along with Hsu Hao, Moloch and Shujinko those are my most hated characters.

I can't believe we have a LOL Tier, lol.
The MK Wiki is largely full of shit and conjecture.
That said, the MK4 cast is hit and miss in terms of popularity - Tanya and Quan Chi have loads of fans, Fujin and Reiko seem to have a moderate amount, Shinnok is liked more as a plot character and generally thought poorly of in terms of gameplay, and I think a guy I know named Buck who lives a few doors down said he liked Jarek once. He may have been saying 'Jerky'. I dunno.
It's once you get into the 3D games that things really start dipping. There are very few characters who don't have a small fanbase, but almost everyone is shit on to some extent with the exception of Kenshi, who pretty much everyone fell in love with from day one.

there were alot of generic characters from the 3D MKs, i would say almost all of the ones created for those games.
the few i liked were Kenshi, Bo Rai Cho, Frost, Fujin, Kobra, Kira, and Reiko(MK4 maskless ninja looking version).
Darrius, Sareena, Li Mei, Nitara, Dairou, and Kai could be reworked to fit the MK mythology better and actually be great characters. They're just half-ass as they are though.

I wouldn't mind seeing Shujinko in a future game, just not as foolish as he was portrayed in Deception. He's supposed to be an old wise man. He's the Pai Mei of MK.
