Alot of you have probablly seen the interview where ed boon talks about dlc characters. He talks about new characters, characters in later games and geust characters.
I was just wondering of the likelyhood of seeing other fighting franchinse characters. Mk is american and that prolly has alot to do with why we have not seen mk vs street fighter. I really doubt well be seeing that many japanese franchise chracters because A) its on the other side of the world whole different scene and B) does o say capcom want o say ryu to get cut into a million peices.
I wanted to know from you guys what fighting franchises (preferably american because it is the most likely) do you think we could possibly see as DLC.
The only one I can think of is KI but seeing as how its microsoft exculsive and how im pretty sure the people in charge of rare now are not the same people who created ki, its kinda slim. This would be my dream come true, even if so many characters are similar to MK fighters there are still some really unique ones, Sabrewulf, Glacius, Riptor ect...
I wouldnt mind DC if they only gave us the most violent of villans (prolly gonna happen imo)

Personally i dont want them doing any more cross-overs or having any guest appearances. MK should stay with MK and if they want new characters then they should be ones that the MK team came up with

They're not gonna waste development time on a character that isn't one of theirs. At least, I very much hope they wouldn't.
When the game comes out, the characters who didn't make it in, that fans are going to be requesting as DLC, are going to be so many that building a character who's not on that request list would just piss people off because, again, it would feel like they wasted a slot to give us someone we weren't asking for.

I have never been a fan of guest characters.
However!!! Should there be a guest character appearance in Mortal Kombat, a Killer Instinct character would be perfect!
But no, I wouldn't want a guest character in Mortal Kombat... unless it was Orchid. ;3

Well for the DLC part I think a guest kharacter would be great, but not the only DLC characters offered to purchase. Even though a lot of people disliked the whole MK vs DC game, I have to say even without the gore the game was amazing plus or minus a few things in it. I think that now we NEED to see the "Most Wanted Fighting Cross-over Game Possibility Ever Thought Of" - MK vs Street Fighter, we all got to witness Freddy vs Jason. I think that if Akuma, Chun Li, and/or Vega would make really good cross-over choices, especiall Akuma since he debut the whole cross-over idea in X-Men Children Of The Atom and has his Demon Attack Super Move that's seems rather brutal.
As I've said before, I do NOT want ANY guest appearences. This is friggin Mortal Kombat, not Super Smash Bros.
To me, each game, movie, or TV show represents its own world and its own style. If you bring characters from a game and add them to another game, then you basically ruin the canonicity, unless you are willing to say that these characters all exist in the same world, universe, multi-verse, etc.

Soul Calibur has had guest characters without ruining the canon.
Hell, MK Trilogy had in-universe guest characters that directly contradict other characters, and it didn't ruin the canon.
You're acting as if fans are too stupid to realize that, say, Link's biography and ending are not to be taken seriously.

Lol I dont think you guys understand the concept of DLC. Its all non cannon as in you download them after the game comes out, its not like there gonna alter the story after dlc comes out. They are just chracters you "CAN" download to play with they have nothing to do with the story you dont have to download them. They dont affect your copy of MK in anyway (well except for maby online play)

Guest characters aren't really wanted. Besides there is a game called MK vs DCU, for guest characters. New generation of MK fans need to understand, guest characters aren't welcomed in main MK games.
MK(2011) is real MK game fans have waiting for years. Myself I really don't want guest characters to ruin it outside the MK universe. Though I am still upset that this lame "time travel" story and reusing old ideas. Worst idea ever. -_-. DLC in terms of this MK game is for ideas that didn't make it into final release, "new "characters within the MK world to return, new stages, and so on.

Soul Calibur had a canon?
Guest characters won't work in my opinion.
But on a somewhat related note, does anyone think it would be cool to have a threeway crossover between Mortal Kombat, Street fighter and Tekken? I don't play Street Fighter or Tekken, but a lot of people seem to want MK to cross over with one of the two, so why not both?

They should just make a professionally done MUGEN setup.
get a bunch of teams together and have them go to town.
WB Games? (DC characters)
Capcom? (has Marvel license) so that's DC vs Marvel right there
on TOP of Capcom vs Midway..then you throw Namco into the mix for Soul Calibur Pac-Man and Tekken.

Just because they are downloaded after release doesn't mean they won't have a story. If Kenshi or Quan Chi were DLC, I can almost guarantee you they'd have a story.

Even if the story is intact, guest characters still negatively affect the atmosphere. Seeing Vader and Yoda in Soul Calibur made any sort of immersion experience impossible.

Exactly.. Not to mention that adding any guest fighters would just be a horrible decision. Mkvsdc was a good game but it definitely suffered for being a cross-over. Mortal Kombat should stick with what it does best. if any fighters are gonna be dlc it should be 1's that didn't make the game or brand new fighters created by mk team.
I'll give a hearty "no" to the idea of guest characters from other franchises.
The only fighting game guest character I EVER liked was Link in Soul Calibur II... and that's only because Link is universally awesome and was a surprisingly good fit with the other fantasy sword and sorcery characters.
But then you have things like Gon in Tekken 3, a Spartan in Dead or Alive, Heihachi and Spawn in SC2, and Yoda and Darth Vader in Soul Calibur IV... the latter of which really did taint that game.
I want this to be a pure MK game. No Batman. No Killer Instinct (though I support KI vs MK all the way as a separate game). With the potential for DLC, and a robust cast of well over 60 fighters from MK history, I think we are more than covered on characters we could add or would want to see added.

I dunno, my feeling is that if they picked the RIGHT characters, and fit them in to the game the right way, I could think of a lot of characters that I wouldn't mind seeing as DLC, but ONLY if the MK team decided to go this route. I wouldn't take any characters over MK characters, even for DLC, but if they wanted to do this:
Jago, Orchid, Kim Wu or TJ Combo from Killer Instinct
Jade Dragon or Master Sage from Tao Feng
JD Stone, Vittoria, Asad, Sabre or Roxy from Kakuto Chojin
Chin Wo or Shadow from Eternal Champions
Mizoguchi from Fighters History
Senzo or Habaki from Kasumi Ninja
Nikki Chan from Way of the Warrior
Koyasha, Al Rashid or Namira from Mace: The Dark Age
Sofia or Kayin from Battle Arena Toshinden
Jane from Fighting Vipers
Saeki from Fighters Destiny
Again, it has to be the right fit. You look at some games out there and none of their characters would fit at all. War Gods? Rise of the Robots? Weaponlord? Primal Rage? Bloodstorm? None of the characters in those games would fit.

Chuck Norris for MK! But seriously,I would love a few guest characters in the future. However this MK should solely be focused on the reemerging of MK and it's glory days! In the future I would love to see guest characters tho:Crimson Viper from Street Fighter 4. Wolverine(marvel) v.s. Baraka!!! The possibilities are endless. Sakura from rival schools!!! Kazuya from Tekken!!
