Have you ever drawn Sheeva, Harle? I'd be curious to see it, you clearly like the character a lot.

And for the record I too think she's totally sexy. That ending shot gave me the mental image of a business woman about to uncross her legs and flash her goodies.

I just started doing MK fan art a few months ago when I came here, Sheeva was actually the first character I drew. I never posted her because I've only ever done simple practice drawings of her, but I've been really brainstorming how to do Sheeva effectively lately, so she'll probably pop up soon in the fan sub. forum. You're right, she's my original favorite since I played MK3 before MK2, I've had love for Sheeva long before Mileena, despite how obsessed I appear to be with Millers...

same...

With people saying that she's too ugly... Shokans are half dragon, half human, half tiger and probably a lot of other halves. They're not meant to be designed completely sexy like you see in them thar Playboys.

Fan art always makes something ugly and turn it into something beautiful.

Sheeva is part human part dragon... Dragons I don't ever recall, being cute unless you're talking about Puff the Magic Dragon.

She can be attractive in her own way. I'm not saying that she can't be beautiful, to be honest I think they made her look a bit more female than what she looked like previously. Because her MK3 role she certainly was hideously ugly as well as Armageddon. In this game, they kinda beauty her up a bit.

So, not every single female character needs to be as hot as Victoria Secret models. Need to at least mix up some stuff.

^^

Sheeva was actually quite 'made up' in MK3. She had the black lipstick, perfectly round, arched eyebrows, high cheek bones, smooth skin... She was extremely feminine in MK3 except for her breasts, which were more like muscles.

Part of me thinks the origins of her look come from wanting to dress down the women in the series, make them more revealing. I think they started this with Sheeva because it was easy to get away with. Sheeva is a monster, technically, not a human woman, so putting her in a costume that is more revealing than any future costume until Flesh Pits Mileena was their way of putting a naked woman in the game without it being too controversial. It is my opinion that Sheeva began as some kind of kinky sex object in the series, but it backfired, so in her next incarnation she was made more monstrous.

However, with the art direction going more sexy than ever, they've brought Sheeva back to her more feminine look(slightly less drag queen this time) and given her normal, gargantuan, exposed breasts and a gigantic ass because: She is a monster, and her naked flesh isn't controversial.

To me, Sheeva began as a testing the waters for nudity character, and now she's gone full circle and has the most raw, sexual appearance of any female character. She's damn curvy, and almost entirely nude. If the intention wasn't to sexify her, then they failed.

I disagree, I think the reason Sheeva wears so little clothing is simply because the entire reason she was ever created was because players kept begging for a playable Goro, so they made a girl Goro because girls are shorter, thinner, and more agile than men, making for a balanced playable character instead of a broken boss-type. And Goro never wore anything but underwear so that was the logical Shokan wardrobe.

I don't really feel like saying much, but I used to be in love with her when UMK3 was the shit. Then I found out her frames were made with a small doll. Sniff!

Honestly I can't see what's so unsexy and unattractive in Sheeva compared to the other female fighters in MK9. She just has another pair of arms and extremely small horns that you can barely see.

Of course the only problem is that they went a little overboard with the breasts, but that's nothing new from the MK team. grin

And what the hell happened here:

Edit// I just looked at her VS and the horns were actually bigger than I remembered. Oh, well.

Yes, it's been established that Sheeva was created to make a playable Shokan. When speaking purely about her costume, that's just my opinion. Had they put Sheeva in underwear similar to Goro's, I'd think differently. Instead, Sheeva's V is only wide enough to cover her genitals alone, if she was in a natural state, there would be a high chance of her pubic hair showing(something notable about Mileena's MK9 costumes as well, attesting to just how revealing they are). Goro's underwear would easily keep his private areas under wraps. If I remember correctly, in Sheeva's original appearance the back was also quite tiny, almost a thong... Not to mention, not only does she have cleavage, but the majority of her breasts are uncovered, only a small sliver on the side is covered. Again, realistically there would be, at the very least, partially exposed nipples.

I didn't want to go into gory detail, but Sheeva's MK3 costume is clearly influenced by sexuality, despite how unsexy it looks. Goro is given a simple black speedo and a belt. Sheeva is given a V made of thin red straps that not only leave her ass cheeks and breasts quite exposed, but her lady parts themselves are just barely hidden. Also, after Sheeva paved the way in MK3, our Kitana, Mileena, and Jade make their return with exposed cleavage and smaller underwear... I may be entirely wrong, but it still stands true that Sheeva was the most scantily clad female character in the series until Flesh Pits Mileena. Deception alt Mileena comes close, but she wears shoes... Heh.

Totally have a Sheeva-Boner, so yeah, I can dig this.

Reason? Four arms and big boobs. She could pleasure herself and I at the same time, which is always sexy. Plus.....boobs.....I like tits......a LOT!

Pubes? What makes you think Draco-breed Shokans even grow body hair? I somehow doubt Goro's shaving his chest and armpits, and yet neither of them has hair anywhere on their bodies except for the tops of their heads and even that's kinda weird when you consider their skin is kinda lizard-esque.

You're missing the point. The point isn't whether or not she would have pubic hair, but that the area that is exposed by her clothing is the pubic region, regardless of whether her species has bodily hair or not.

And again...that's just the female version of what Goro wears. Yes it's skimpy, there is sexuality to it. That's because it's the female version of what Goro wears. But her costume is still based on "Shokan don't wear much clothes", not a hidden agenda to prepare people for a day when all of the female characters would wear string bikinis.

But there's nothing logically pointing to it being an attempt to set the stage for all the girls in the cast dressing like sluts in MK9. Consider that the girls dressed somewhat decently for years and years after Sheeva's creation in MK3. We didn't get wall to wall string bikinis until MK9.

Also consider that John Tobias designed Sheeva and he had nothing to do with this game.

Sheeva may be half-dragon, but she's warm-blooded, has mammary glands, head hair, and other mammalian traits. It stands to reason she'd have body hair, so for all we know Sheeva shaves her legs and armpits on occasion and gives herself a nice bikini wax before beach season.

Case closed. Sheeva was designed with that in mind, and she was the first to be so straightforward with it. After that point, nearly every single female costume became skimpier. I don't think of it as some 'hidden agenda' like their plotting the end of the world through boobies, but that the series was slowly taking a more 'sexy'(I use that term loosely) direction and Sheeva was the easiest to start this with because she wasn't entirely human and accordingly, she was permitted to wear as little clothes as possible without causing a huge moral panic about video games destroying our children. I never said this was fact, just my thoughts on the strictly visual origins of Sheeva's design, so... you're free to continue disagreeing with me, but I'm not here to argue something that can't be proven.

I think it's more related to the fact Sheeva was a stop motion figure on MK3 and the other girls were actresses, so they could make her wear whatever they wanted.

Doing motion capture wearing an outfit like MK9 Mileena's must be a real pain in the ass, if not outright impossible.

That too, over all it was just extremely easy to dress Sheeva down as little as possible, and they did.

There's no reason she wouldn't, any race with head hair would logically have body hair. I do agree that with the size of that costume she'd be exposing a few inches of bush though. Same with Mileena's alt, that has a mesh window over her Mons.

Not necessarily.

I'm certain that someone who knows more about animals than me could find either a reptilian with hair, but only a little, or a mammal who's nearly bald but still has a little bit somewhere. Having hair on one's head is no guarantee, scientifically speaking, of having hair elsewhere.

And even outside of real life animals, we're talking about an alien anatomy. Hell, even inside the Shokan race, there's two completely different kinds, one of which is furry all over like cats. The other is something we don't really have on Earth: they're half "human", half reptilian. Who's to say how mammal traits and lizard traits would mix if you tried to bring science into it?
And clearly, even though they can render chest and arm hair (look at Kano), Goro doesn't have any, so what, you think he spends his free time down in his cave with a razor and a mirror, manscaping?

If you want to get technical, no character has and body hair other than facial hair, and at the top of thier heads.

They don't model hair anywhere else for whatever reason...

There are mammals that have no hair or fur such as the Naked Mole rat, which is native to East Africa, but while mammals don't all have hair, I'm fairly certain that Reptilians do not grow hair under any circumstances, I'm not saying 100% for sure, but yeah.

On the question of Goro, I'd actually say yes. Its benficial in combat to be smooth skinned. Even ancient Roman gladiators would remove all their body hair. In my opinion it's just a matter of taste though. I hate seeing adult women depicted with no pubic hair at all. It's just weird.
