Hey, sup. Long time lurker and first time poster. I grew up with mk as a kid. Played mk 2 at my local hockey arena and got burned by kintaro so bad. Anyways, I've been a long time fan, blah blah. I like what Boon said, and it seems like there are key events in my mind that if it's going to be a different timeline to prevent Armageddon's joykill future.

I mean, from what Boon said, it sounds like Raiden knows everything, etc. So let's see what events he needs to alter/ prevent. Will start with obvious ones.

Shao Kahn must die: It's fairly obvious, considering the sorceror king always has body doubles thanks to bland writing, but honestly? Kahn's old and tired to the point of death. Should he really be the focus of a retelling again? Soul explosion MK3 style hells yeah. That's a dumb and obvious one.

Deadly Alliance: this is honestly a chain and more deceptive problem. Shang needs to get taken out by Raiden or someone early on. Hell, even Quan Chi is a bigger threat in my mind. He's such a shadowy mofo cruising through the realms during the mk1-mk3 time period, doing the bidding of Shinnok. If anything, Raiden must stop or better yet kill this awesomely power hungry sorceror at the first chance.

Dragon King: Abit more random considering Deception was a cluster of randomness and Onaga spawning from Blaze and Reptile lead to that. Which leads to the next thing.

Shu(lulz)jinko: I'm in a minority, I liked Shujinko as a character. Sure he's an idiot and a copycat, but he was entertaining in an odd way. If anything, his quest can easily be stopped through whatever methods are preferable, but stopping him from collecting the kamidogu is key to preventing Onaga's ressurction.

Tanya's Backdoor: Let's face it, Tanya's a minor character whos' backstabbing history would make Revolver Ocelot even consider being a good guy. Thing is, Tanya's never really had a story beyond "I serve and crave power in a generic fashion" Event wise, nip her in the bud prevents Shinnok and Quan Chi from entering Edenia, no MK4. Well, that could easily be changed. Another person opens the gateway, but yeah.

Mileena: This is a random one, and an otherwise minor but still popular character. Mileena's never been a key player, always the favored warrior or skilled personal assassin type. Besides her obvious assets, Mileena has a subtle role in the storyline of MK. She's always been obsessed with becoming Kitana, and that's half the problem. MKII is a definite thing that Raiden needs to prevent, and it's an interesting angle, imo. It may seem illogical, but Kitana killing Mileena and Shinnok bringing her back from the dead pretty much soldified Mileena's already unhinged and psychopathic serial killer personality. From being a random minion in mk4, to rotting in a cell for ten years in mkda, to controlling the forces of outworld and edenia's army, it's a subtle effect that you notice over time.

That's just some of my early thoughts. Suggestions and additions are welcome to the thread. Also, discussion about fan theories on what will happen or change appreciated as well.

I'm definately down for Kahn's death but we'll need a good boss to replace him that can be around for at least a few games. A lot of people didn't like the bosses in other games so we'll have to see about that. One idea could be with Shinnock actually getting the amulet and not just a fake. Then he would be pretty powerful but idk justa thought.

They could do a lot to make Shinnok a much better character and main villain. Giving him his own special moves in Armageddon was a good start, but all that did was take him from worthless to "a good playable character". To be a boss, you gotta do better than that.

Eight feet tall?
Like a boss.
Cheap AI?
Like a boss.
Reflect projectiles?
Like a boss.
Can't be footswept?
Like a boss.

You see where this is goin'.

Key events I'd list are:

Liu Kang's victory in the first game against Goro - This prevented Outworld from gaining entrance into Earthrealm, it's ripple effects reached the grand command of Outworld and it restored honor to the tournament. It served justice to the prolouge of the first game in honoring the original Kung Lao. This also made Liu Kang the hero he was in Mortal Kombat. This is a key moment and possibly the most important event happening in Mortal Kombat.

Sub-Zero's death - If Scorpion never killed the original Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat the history would be changed because the younger brother would have never sprung into action and would have altered characters such as Sektor, Cyrax, Smoke, and the younger Sub-Zero. Plus Scorpion would have never been involved in the sequels as a minion for Shao Kahn in UMK3. Would have never been involved in MK2 and so forth, this is a key event which involved many characters in it's after affect.

Shao Kahn's invasion of Earthrealm, basically MK3, if this event never would have happened we would have never had an outocme like we did with future games. Shao Kahn betraying the sacred ruldsof Mortal Kombat and forcing his way into Earthrealm not only after effected so much of the MK History it's after affects were felt for every game that came after. This prevented Raiden to even interfere with the mortals of Earth and really brought out the most of the mortals from Earth who survived the onslaught. Imagine all of Earth wiped out except for a select few who banded together and fought back the realm of Earth... Possibly the greatest story arc in all of Mortal Kombat but in my opinion was not correctly portrayed......yet.

There are just so many events in the story that are just a necessity for all the occurances to lead up to Armageddon, how in the blue hell is Raiden going to be prepared, and how much time does Raiden post Armageddon have to send his message back in time before getting his face smashed in by Shao Kahn?

It's like anything, I don't know how the hell Boon's gonna pull this off without derailing the general plot of MK. I like the idea, and I honestly would like to see some characters slide into different alignments or gain more fleshed out storylines. Like I said in my earlier example with Mileena. I'll just admit: she's my favorite female character in MK period, regardless of her cannibalistic tendencies.

Instead of getting ball busted with a head snap from Kitana ala MKII, why not make a her villain who's still a rival to Kitana, but not just so one dimensional in her pursuit of becoming "teh princess of fairyland" I wounld never want to see her as a good guy. Even neutral would be pushing it. It also had to due with the nature/structure of earlier mk games not having a coherent storymode. I think Boon's trying to weave a story that for canonwise, has definite consquences or atleast progress. Mileena and Baraka, oh gee, what a great couple. it worked in MkII, but not 3, hell even deception was kind of blah. You don't ever get an idea of what the characters would be like if they ruled. Is Kitana as competent and good as the games normally suggest, or would Mileena be another psychotic empress who drains her land through her tarkatan horde. Or maybe a benevolent dictator whose rule is absolute, but life doesn't suck like it did with old Outworld. Ehh, too much looking into it, I honestly tell myself it's just a fighting game sometimes with a decent mythos.

Interesting thread, and I agree with most of it:

One thing I definitely think Raiden should make a priority, is making sure villains die and stay dead. Shang Tsung for example -- defeated in Mortal Kombat I, but spared by good-hearted Liu Kang. If Raiden is truly out to prevent Armageddon, Raiden will step in after Tsung's defeat by Liu Kang's Flying Kick, and then electrocute Shang Tsung. Remember, it was Shang Tsung who suggested the plot of Mortal Kombat II to Shao Kahn, and helped restore The Dragon King's army.

Goro dying would also be a huge coo to Earthrealm. Goro's loss embarrassed him, and took him out of the story canonically until MK4, where he returned to defeat Liu Kang. It was here that Kitana managed to convince Goro to lead the Shokan against Shao Kahn, but in the end Goro was saved from death at the hands of Noob Saibot by Shao Kahn -- leading to another switch of alliances. Goro would have no doubt been a big part of Shao Kahn's domination following Armageddon.

Actually, scrap that -- preventing Noob Saibot would probably be a bigger issue. Is that possible, though? Either way, if Classic Sub-Zero dies, Quan Chi turns him into a wraith. But if Raiden can prevent Goro from joining Shao Kahn -- either by turning him against Kahn permanently, or by making sure Noob Saibot cannot defeat Goro -- the tides of war may be turned.

Kano is actually a large piece of the early puzzle, too. He pretty much kept Shao Kahn alive between MK3 and Deadly Alliance. His strategising kept the Edenian and Shokan armies at bay. Without Kano, Kahn may have died a lot quicker, and Kahn seems to be the end of days in the "true" timeline. Kano either being killed or being persuaded to join Earthrealm seems like a good move for Raiden.

......Everything you posted....

Can I please say that I'm already in love with you? Seriously, great thread and what an awesome way of posting your thoughts! Good job man. I wish you would had joined this site ages ago. Good job and welcome to MKO! smile

Back on subject:

I'm also very very curious to see how they are going to develop the storyline of this game.

I pretty much agree with you on everything you said except your mention of Mileena as a minor one dimensional character. I disagree 100%, specially after her role during the events of MKD and MKA. Her role in these last games is pretty significant and central to the storyline.

Over the years, Mileena has grown from "resented clone living in the shadow of her sister" to "mega manipulator femme fatale supreme ruler of a whole realm". Mileena is not so much about "being Kitana", she's about having Kitana's "righteous" power over the things she desires (which is everything, that greedy scary-mouth bitch tongue).

So yeah, Mileena is actually a main character, not minor.

Anyway, another key event I would add to your list is KANO. He pretty much kept Shao Kahn safe and alive, and helped to lead his whole army in battle. That treacherous son of a bitch (that I love so much) really screwed things up for our world.

I would say these events are the dangerous ones that will be taken into consideration, BUT HOPEFULLY will REMAIN UNCHAINED or NOT FULLY CHANGED because I am a HUGE fan of the PRESENT CANON ORIGINAL STORYLINE and I DONT WANT TO SEE THEM SCREWING IT UP by CHANGING SOMETHING THAT REALLY DOESN'T NEED TO BE CHANGED. DONT SPIT ON THE FANS PLEASE, Ed, Vogel, and MK Team!!!!:

Shang Tsung's escape

Sindel's Resurrection

Shinnok and his invasion

Shao Kahn and his stupid clone/dopplehanger

Kano's treachery

Tanya's treachery

Shujinko's Quest with Onaga

Sektors Tekunin Invasion

The heroes deaths at the beginning of MKD

Reptile's possession and Nitara's escape

Liu Kang's death

Dark Raiden

Quan Ch and the freakin amulet

I'll post more later.

But seriously, these are all key events but I certainly don't want them to alter them, at least not all of them....sad I love the story the way it is, and if things have to change, FINE, but NOT everything and not in a drastic way that completely changes what we know and love.

Honestly, I have this feeling they're gonna do a "you can't change destiny" sort of vibe:

They might change which players do what but in the end, I think the outcome might end up the same.

same here.

I do hope do that Liu kang is still the hero of MK. he is the "ryu" of the franchise, and we all know what happened when in sf3 capcom made alex the hero smile

Liu needs to be the hero. What i think will happen is that Raiden will ask liu kang to kill shang tsung rather than chosing mercy since rayden know or have a feeling that leaving shang alive is a mistake, so he kepps telling liu kang that when the time comes he need to do what he swore to never do, which is take a human life. However when liu kan wins and is abt to finish shang he stops and tells rayden that hwatever happens will happen and he cannot go againt his shaolin principle of killing a man who already lost blah blah blah

just my $0.02

Wouldn't it be awesome if that happens, but then Shang Tsung rises, and murders Liu Kang then and there - post defeat? So even though MK2 will still happen, Liu is gone.
