After seeing the character select screen showing what could be roughly 24 slots, and the game taking place primarily through out the original trilogy, I think we will see expansion packs to the game, but these expansion would have to actually be ON THE DISC, and unlocked via payed DLC.

I remember reading that they couldn't work DLC into MK vs DC because it would have been to hard to put completely new characters into the game, and seeing as the game was always listed / assumed as having a November / Winter release date of this year, I think they are taking an extra few months to throw in extra characters that you will pay for later.

We have seen the trailer show some of the newer characters like Kira, so maybe we will see some kind of "Ultimate" expansion for $20 a few months later that will give us maybe 4 characters and 4 new backrounds ?

It doesn't have to be like that.

They can have the framework all there, then when DLC is available you basically just download character data (model/skin/moves etc).

I'd assume the game is designed that it is quite compartmentalised. So a new character, stage etc can be added and the game just needs to be told "look here, there's some extra data to show on the select screen etc".

They need to actually think of a way to make DLC possible for those of us who can't afford XBox Live :|

They could wait and churn out a second disc with extra content on it that you just install.

like Fallout 3.

This thread was started before the Destructoid interview was conducted, so it now appears that it could be TRUE DLC.

It actually sounds like Boon is going to do the DLC based on user feedback.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 had people vote on who the DLC characters would be so lets hope we get a tone of it.

Mortal Kombat is one game that I actually would love to see continued expansion to, as I never get bored with the Mortal Kombat games. There is also the fact that the team takes 2-3 years between games so dlc could keep us going until MK10

You don't need to buy an XBL account to be able to download content. Just make a profile and set yourself up with XBL Silver, which allows you to download content but not play, and it's free.

I don't see why you think that would be a good idea. Having all the DLC already on the retail disc is a scam. It's been done on previous other games and it's been well documented that people fucking hate it.
If something is already on the disc why the fuck should we have to pay to unlock something that's already on the disc we just bought.

DLC should be worked on after the game is released. Thank God Ed Boon has already said they'll be bringing out DLC based on what the Fans would like to see.

It'll likely be about a month or two till they release the first DLC pack. which will probably have 2 or 3 new characters, fatalaties for each, 2 or 3 new backgrounds, maybe some extra content (I hope they add the krypt again because i love to see the behinds the scenes stuff they did in DA.). Hopefully maybe 4 or 6 months after the game they'll release a fatality pack which will give every character a new fatality to perform and possibly another -ality(I really hope they bring back the Hara-Kiri and Animality and Brutalaties)

Not sure where you read that, but it's actually the contrary. Boon said that the programming structure of MKvsDC was built for DLC, and they even finished rendering the downloadable characters (Harley Quinn and Quan Chi), but because of the Midway fiasco, they couldn't release the content.
