Speaking of arenas Does anyone know if they said that 18 arenas wasn't the final list like they did with the character list?

Well we have seen 16 and we know that there are sound clips for 3 more plus Kratos Arena

so that's at lest 20!!!!

Right now I'm most excited of Shang Tsung's Garden for its stunning visuals and originality. The worst arena was hard to pick but it would perhaps be The Bell Tower but I really dislike any of them. I'd hope to see a winter arena too, Lin Kuei Temple of course.

No need to delete the thread. I think we all have pictures in our minds of what these arenas look like and for those that don't, just cut and paste the links. No big deal at all.

So far, my top 5 favorite arenas:


5) The Subway: The most amazing part is that this was my least favorite level in MK3 and MK:A. They somehow managed to make this level look gritty and realistic and it works in a way that I've never seen before from this level.

4) Scorpions Lair: Wow, they really took this level to the next, err, yeah. It looks phenomenal. Compared to the UMK3 version of Hell, it's such a step ahead.

3) Shang Tsung's Throne Room: From the rain on the windows to the great uses of color throughout, this arenas is done to perfection.

2) Shang Tsung's Garden: I absolutely love this level. It's a perfect match of nature and evil and the whole thing feels like a mix of MK1 and MK:D. Excellent style.

1) The Belltower: This level looks so intricate, I was honestly amazed by it when I first saw it. Compared to MK3's belltower, the difference is night and day.

The Bottom 5 (least favorite thus far):

5) The Cathedral: I'm honestly shocked to see this on my own list, but the rest of the arenas just look better than what I've seen of the Cathedral so far. I loved this background in MK3, but so far this one seems very dark, almost needlessly dark and the level of detail isn't quite there yet.

4) The Balcony: I'll have to see a little bit more before I pass judgement, but what I've seen so far has looked a bit bland. It almost looks more like an MK:A background, which tells me they're nowhere close to being done with it yet.

3) The City Rooftops: Now we're finally starting to get in to some that I'm not all that in to. This one, again, just feels underdeveloped. The burning buildings look cool, but that's about it. Maybe it'll look cooler in the final version, but so far I'm unimpressed.

2) The Bridge/Street: Honestly, there's nothing horribly wrong with this level, but from what I've seen so far it just looks boring in comparison to some of the other levels.

1) Jade's Desert: I just don't like the way this level has come together. The giant hand, the bright, sunny look of the level. Sure, you can have levels with daylight, of course, but this level just doesn't do it for me.

All the stages look excellent IMO!!!

I thought the opposite, I liked the Balcony and can't wait to see more of it, it seemed to be more open and less mysterious, I hope a stage fatality will be incorporated somehow.

The Pit was the most controversial one, which should have been split into 2 separate Pit stages: The Pit, Pit Bottom, and Pit II; also the inclusion of spinning blades in a Pit III.

Yet, I can't wait for the Soul Chamber reveal!!! Always my favorite arena!!!

I love The Pit 2 and The Dead Pool. The Subway looks nice but I HATE the stage Fatality.

Definitely the Subway, then probably the Bell Tower.
I love the subway because of it's stage fatality and its look, and how it's really different to all the others, i mean the rest of them are like named after someone, Shang Tsung's garden and Jade's Desert, Scorpion's Lair and they're all pretty hellish. However The Subway is just a subway, not named after anyone, or hellish in any way, so basically it doesnt fit in, it's different and i like that :P
Bell tower because i love how it looks and hopefully if it has the same stage fatality it does on UMK3 its the best stage fatality ever!! I hope they'll add more though, like they did the Subway :D

Shang's Throne room has no flaws really, exactly how it shouldve been on the original MK. Kahns arena looks ambitious, except Kira and Kitana being chained seems alittle off compared to the original 95 game.

My worst still remains to be Jades Desert, and the Bell tower. The desert needs some more cyrax trapped, or maybe some dude drowning in quicksand. Belltower is boring, but if it has the fall through floor fatality I'd change my opinion for the better.

- Jade's Desert (not sure why so many people dislike this arena)
- The Pit
- Kahn's Arena
- The Cathedral

I don't really have a least favourite since all arena's look very good but if I had to choose, I'd say The Living Forest. Maybe I've seen it too often.

I am looking forward to seeing Scorpion's Lair, Goro's Lair and Warrior Shrine in action.

I'm not even taking into account arenas such as Rooftops and Balcony since we haven't seen any decent footage of those. From the rest...

THE BEST: The Pit

Love it, especially the dark sky and the moon.


THE WORST: Kahn's Arena

Kahn sitting on a throne in the middle of the arena makes no sense, especially considering that huge beast in the background is also in the arena (if it accidentally goes loose it could possibly kill Kahn himself from behind). His throne should be somewhere high surrounded by crowd from below and on the sides.

Also, I hate that Kitana appears chained up- it kinda implies they might change the original story where she wasn't captured and that would suck, to me at least.

Overall, the arenas are beautiful and probably the strongest part of the game so far, along with 2D gameplay.

Favorites: Honestly I like most of them. I love The Living Forest because it has that Dark, somewhat spooky feel to it. I also love Kahns Arena it seems real hyperactive.

Least Favorites: Deadpool, I do like the fact that when your in Tag Mode how the loser at the end of the round goes into the Acid but other than that I dont care to much for this stage. I can't wait to see the Stage Fatality though.

looks amazing. Out of every level ive seen so far in MK9, id have to say the desert with Sindel's statue presents the least appeal to me. Im a big sucker for a dark creepy look. a real cliche MK fan when it comes to scenery. Darker, grittier, better.

Favourite: Shang Tsung's Garden. Best looking arena in MK ever IMO. It's just stunning.

Worst: Belltower. Just doesn't seem to have any personality.

I'm interested to see what they do with the Pit Bottom & Soul Chamber.

Best:

Tsung's Garden: The level of detail is stunning. It's a wonder to look at, and I really want gameplay vids taking place therein. Might be one of MK's best ever, as was said.

Worst:

The Temple: Can't see shit, cap'n.
