It would be great if this is replicated in MK2011. I hope the final version of the game would have Smoke and Jade peeking out from behind trees in the living forest arena!

That would just send speculation through the roof and the return of nostalgia!

Here's hoping Smoke can be unlocked in the portal stage; Jade a secret character on the arcade battle plan, and Noob Saibot a hidden challenger after 25 wins! Or does everyone want these three as available fighters on the select screen?

Maybe just Noob Saibot. I want Smoke and Jade to be playable. And I don’t want the secret characters to be found the exact same way as MK2. That’s too easy.

If they were to be secret characters, I would want them to be unlockable. It would be an eternal teaser for me to see Jade in the game, but not playable, and it would just frustrate the hell out of me. XD

i would love to have only kharacters at the start of the game which participate in the first tournament.

but since there is a big focuss on online play i guess that most if not all kharacters will be playable in multiplayer modes from the start on

No, these characters need to grow. Nostalgia is okay when it's in a controlled setup, but let's remember why we make sequels in the first place.

I've already explained in other posts why I believe unlocking characters is a gargantuan waste of time.
The only problem I can see with this in this day and age is that people will be speculating that a certain character is in the game and people get excited but then when its discovered that he isnt in the game

F U ED BOON YOU SAID HE WAS IN THE GAME WHY WOULD YOU TEASE HIM BUT NOT PUT HIM IN THE GAME~~~

This is what the world was like before the interwebs. I remember people talking about the first game in school, talking about how Ermac was playable and they'd seen someone fight him or they knew a guy who said that they were able to select Ermac after uppercutting Scorpion after a double flawless perfectly in to the circle on the Warrior Shrine stage, thus sending him to hell and bringing Ermac out.

But you had to do it PERFECTLY, of course grin

So yeah, that's all it was back then, speculation. Rumors. Sure, you had strategy guides, but A) Those are for wussies and B) when the game was in the arcades only, there was no strategy guide. You had to go on word of mouth.

"How do you do Jax's arm rip fatality?"

"I dunno, that guy said he saw the guy spamming the block button or something..."

So yeah, I see nothing wrong with innuendo, and I think that this game is going to be FULL of possible secrets, nods to the past (err...future?) and what not. We've already seen Kenshi on the Pit stage (I think) and Rain in the church (or so I've heard).

I just hope that all of that stuff makes sense from a story standpoint. But yeah, nothing wrong with getting people excited about the possibilities, even if not all of them wind up panning out.

Wow Temp, maybe I'm not reading this correctly but from what I can gather, I couldn't disagree more. Unlocking characters is a waste of time? When it comes to MK games, I personally don't want all of the content right from the start. Now I saw in another thread that you want all of the info for MK ASAP and you don't care about ruining surprises or whatever because if people don't want to know, then they shouldn't check the internet for MK stuff, but people that do want to know should be able to see all they want. That's fine, and I agree with that sentiment. I probably have one more big reveal left in me (as far as characters go) before I put the blinders on and avoid more news. I'm tying those two ideas together because to me, and correct me if I'm wrong here, but it seems like you just want all the content up front. That's fine if we're talking about news regarding the game, as I can simply avoid it, but IN the actual game? No. Don't give me everything all at once. Give me stuff to do. Stuff to unlock. MK invented the hidden character and I expect that kind of stuff. I'm even hoping for hidden stuff that we haven't seen before in a fighting game. I doubt we'll see something like that, but you never know. Give me more to discover in the game than the characters endings. To me, this is a fairly large portion of the fun that I get from MK. Finding the "secrets" and accomplishing something like getting a new character on the select screen. If that stuff isn't fulfilling for you, that's fine, but I still say that we should have a ton of secrets and a ton of stuff to unlock in this next game. Oh, but to the point of the original poster... No, I don't think that it should be Noob, Jade and Smoke, unlocked the same way. It should be completely new characters, unlocked in a different way and/or old characters that were playable in the original versions and that should make sense story-wise. If this story is different and shaking the original canon to its core, then the hidden characters as well as the placement of those characters and how to unlock them should all be different. Just my opinion though...

i want the portal stage back from mk2, and hopefully they have a secret of some sort that warps you to an alt. stage and fight someone.

the animation for the warp can be used spirling the screen and sucking all the chars. through the portal. Man if using 3d it would look fantastic ohwell.
