Will we see a Cybernetic ninja version of Subzero?

posted06/28/2010 12:28 PM (UTC)byworthyEd Boon describes the game as an altered re-telling of the events of Mortal Kombat through Mortal Kombat 3.[4]
“ ...Raiden is about to be killed by Shao Kahn, and just before he delivers the last blow, he sends a mental message to his earlier self, so the camera rewinds back to Mortal Kombat 1. The Raiden from back then gets a message and he doesn't know what's going on, but he knows something bad's going to happen, and the game spans Mortal Kombat 1, 2 and 3, retelling the story with an enlightened Raiden, and he's changing the course of things, so everything you've seen happen before – Liu Kang winning, the guys turning into cybernetic ninjas, are changed around, so you might see a character become cybernetic who wasn't before, and so you see a different version [of events]. ”
so you might see a character become cybernetic who wasn't before.
If i'm not mistake in MK3 didn't they have a storyline where the Lin Kuei wanted to turn Sub Zero into a Cybernetic ninja?
So will this happen and if so will it be a playable character/special character/hidden character/DLC?

I really don't think that's going to happen.

I could be wrong, but I think Stryker might be the cybernetic ninja Ed Boon was talking about.
Btw, welcome to the forums.
Thanks as I keep reading the forums here and decided to join atlast.
Just wondering what made you say Stryker as it sounds intresting?
The reason I said Cybernetic Sub Zero was because in MK3 they were trying to make him a cybernetic ninja in that, but I don't see how changing that outcome would help save Eathrealm, so Stryker would make more sense.
As for tournament winner, who do you think that might change too?

Thats exactly what I was thinking the moment Ed Boon said "someone who wasn't a cybernetic ninja before could be".
BTW I wonder if he could mean it the other way round (ie, Smoke never became a Cybernetic ninja) as I wouldn't mind seeing Human Cyrax?

Actually, a cybernetic version of Stryker is a pretty damn good idea!
Let's face it, the guy is hated by the majority of people. Yes, there are ones who actually like him, but personally i never did. His urban "new york cop" looks sure don't fit in with the dark gritty, gloomy Outworld-ish settings and ambiences of what we've seen so far in the game.
He already has "machinery" based special moves (hand grenades, guns, explosive device based Fatalities, etc) on his rooster and he sure as hell could be abducted by the Lin Kuei and have his gutts and limbs severed to be replaced by cybernetic prothesys and weapons.
He even has a cyber-ish name! "Stryker" is much more suitable for a piece of hand to hand fighting technology than "Smoke", for example! But yeah, in the case of Smoke, they wanted to chock us with the victim gimmick.
Hell, Smoke was also a "loved/hated" character in MK2, to begin with! And guess what, cyberization only made him a better character, with a deeper storyline and much more interesting, on a technical standpoint.
In my opinion, Stryker can only gain from this "upgrade". He can keep all his specials and hardware based moves, and even have his storyline turned into a much more interesting one.

I don't think they'll actually alter a character during the story mode.
That would just be weird, having two different versions of a character.
I don't see them using it as an alternate outfit either as I'm pretty sure they'd have new moves.
So basically I think that if a character is altered, that is the only way they will appear in the game.

I can't say for sure, but I have feeling that Kung Lao will win the tournament this time, because many people want him too. Plus he seems to be a big part of the story.

No. Sub-Zero is already confirmed in human form. Secondly there would be two characters with similiar moves, and not to mention a bunch of pissed off fans.

That's forgetting or ignoring the fact that MK has two Sub-Zeros.
The question is what if the older one doesn't die and become Noob, and the younger one is automated, or what if this time around Noob is a robot?
Personally, since Noob Saibot and the Sub-Zero with the scar are two of my favorite characters, I think both potential ideas are awful.
I'm not sure I see how or why the Lin Kuei would get their hands on Stryker to turn him into one, but at least he's a character who would be improved rather than worsened by being a robot.
I guess I'm one of the few that is absolutely fine with any changes the MK team wants make with the story.
Make one of the subbys a cyborg? Sure. Just make it interesting. I'm a huge Sub-Zero fan since always. He's my go-to fighter, BUT this is a NEW MK so I'm cool with things changing. If I want to play some old school sub I'll play some UMK3. Besides, we've definately already got a "classic" Sub in the game, so I hope they do something interesting with the other one.
Stryker? Cyborg away. Hopefully they surgically remove his donut gut.

Hopefully no, making sub a cyber ninja would be one of the worst ideas. Drastic changes should be made to lesser characters in an attempt to give them a second chance as a legitimate character, main character who are established should not be overly redone.

I was actually thinking Frost. (but i think a different character was meant by that comen every 5 minutes)
I doubt they ́ll get rid of Noob or young subzero, and maybe something happens to make young Frost volunteer into the cyborg program. It would b cool to have a female cyborg.

I know. It's silly. Why can't people just accept that there won't be such a radical and ridiculous change. The whole point of the game is nostalgia and adding depth to the old MKs. Obviously Cyber Tremor is confirmed, duhz. Untold tales of MKSF. B-)
I doubt "nostalgia" was at the top of this MK's Design Document. From what Boon has said, this game is an attempt to re-center mk on it's glory days, but at the same time create a new jumping off point in the series. This IS a new mk game, so it must have a new direction or approach.
We've already got pretty much the mk standard cast, so the only real opportunity for expansion is the Story. I'm going to hold out hope that the MK team will take this opportunity to shake things up.

"Remembering the glory days" is what the word "nostalgia" means...so you are wrong, yes.
