A couple of reasons.

1. With Street Fighter IV coming to 3DS is would seem the technology would be there for a port.

2. With the game being designed with 3D in mind for the PS3, it would seem that the 3D process would be wasted on just one system, especially when a new system is coming out specifically with a 3D feature.

3. The release date has been pushed back to "Spring 2011", which is the rumored launch window for the Nintendo 3DS.

4. We have already seen that mature games like Resident Evil will be on the 3DS, so Mortal Kombat wouldn't be too far of a stretch.

Personally, if MK came to 3DS, it would sell me the system.

I imagine we'll see plenty of MK on the 3DS, though whether it's a port of this game or not is a different matter entirely.

We've had direct ports on portable systems before with varying degrees of success, but I think the MK team might do something else entirely, like what they did with the Tournament Editions of the game with new characters and supplemental story threads. As much as I feel Sareena was a late-comer to the main MK games, she was a playable character with a story in the GameBoy Advance game.

While I don't expect 360/PS3 level graphics, a port or supplemental installment is not out of the question.

The new MK won't even appear on th Wii, so what makes you think it will be on the new DS?

I would rather see this game go the route of Tekken 6. Ported to the PSP with slightly downgraded graphics

Well, SFIV won't be on the Wii, but it will be on the 3DS. The system looks like it can hit Wii graphics, perhaps even more when people push it.
