the mk creators said that in the next mk game there was going to be about 60 characters . I think that they might put some of mk3 characters for example rain, sheva, sector and human smoke .

what do you think?

The creators didn't say a thing about 60 characters. What they said was that the next MK would have the largest character roster in MK so far. Sixty fighters in a 3D beat em up is impossible anyway, unless they cut out on many other things and use the same character models, styles and moves to make other fighters.

Even if they tried for 40 characters, that still worries me. Last time they did a big roster in MTK, the game was an unplayable glitchy mess, and a third of the fighters used the same three sprites. I would much rather they tried for at most 30 fighters, and made big improvements on the actual gameplay and fighting engine. Deception's just wasn't good enough, and half the space in MKD was taken up by pointless extras like Krapquest. So I'm worried now that this time, Midway are focusing on cramming in many characters instead of focusing on the flawed gameplay.

ah hey budd.....tekken 5 had about 40 chars as i recall..maybe 30..unsure...and they still had enough room for survival and time attack and more moves than mk...no fighting styles tho...and the next mk will most likely be next gen..therefore alot more space to do whatever..

i think midway should take a page from tekkens book for the fighting...each char is unique...or like dead or alive...every char should have unique moves only for them...if they were to find the balance between that, the special moves, and the graphics...it would no doubt own every fighting game..

Tekken 5 had just over 30 characters, 33 if we count clones like Panda as seperate. This includes the unplayable Jinpachi. I think 30 is an ideal amount of character for the next MK to try and aim for. But unlike Tekken, MK has a LOT of work needed to fixing the gameplay aspect, particularly the main fighting engine. All T5 had to do was remove many of the unpopular, overly complex features added in T4.

I tottally agree with you about making each character unique, which is another reason I'm not excited by "the largest character roster". 30 characters all with their own fighting style (authentic this time as well) and special moves is much better than 60 virtual clones all with mostly the same attacks. Maybe next time they should try only two styles instead of three, one hand to hand, one weapon.

Deception is a joke, because it went for an overload of extra features like Krapquest, instead of a good quality fighting game, which is why we want an MK game in the first place. My worry is they will make the same mistake, but with an overload of characters instead.

I think 60 would just be a ridiculous number of characters. 40 would probably work okay. I mean, Midway knows where they fucked up on Trilogy. They'll probably be careful not to do it again.

MK7 is sure to be on the next generation systems, so 50 to 60 characters will more than likely be possible.

I still don't get why the MK team would think that more=better. MK 1 had seven playable characters and MK2 had 12. I'm not saying that we should go back down to such low numbers but if announcing that there will be more characters than any other MK game is supposed to excite me, well, I can't say that it has worked.

MK:D had 27 characters and, to me, some of the characters were boring and many of the characters had animations, moves, stances and specials ripped directly from other characters. To me that's cutting corners that simply shouldn't be cut. If they can work on the fighting system and make it better AND have 50 characters, then great. Absolutely fantastic even. But if they're simply going to be jacking the number of characters up and cutting corners like they did in the last game, introducing 3 new aspects to the fighting (as has been reported) and nothing else, then I have to say that I'm already worried.

Oh, and where did Sub-Zero12345 get his info on the 60 characters number? I have yet to see anything posted anywhere to that effect. I'd be happy with 30 and a revamped fighting system. Heck, I'd be happy with 20 if they had the latter part. That said, my guess is that the game will top out at 40. But, that's just a guess. I really hope the new additions (fighters and fighting mechanics) are better than they were in MK:D.

Christ already Deception wasn't that bad, god damn man.i know the game is broken a bit and there are glitches, but what game doesn't have glitches??Point is i can play the game very well without doing any dumb infinites, or abusing glitches.I do insanely hard combos and it takes practice if you attempt any of the ones i do.

And it's fun online too, which the other fighters lack.

The Konquest mode was interesting, but i found it to be too long if anything.Personally, as a new introduction in a fighter, it put more zest into it, the other fighters have dumb modes such as beach vollyball, boring tag mode etc.

At least in Deception i had to work to get my unlockables, and i mean really work. Not just beat the game with every guy.Thats way too easy imo.

Though, like i said earlier, it could have been shorter.

Anyway, i think that 30 is a good number, 40 max, but no more and please, please, please get rid of Bo Rai Cho, worst character ever made in MK!!!!!

I agree that sixty characters is too much, not only because of hardware restrictions, but also because you would have less chance of fighting the characters you want to on a regular basis, with so many to choose from. The variety of fighters would be great, but sixty just seems like too many.

Thirty seems like a good number. It should be a mix of classic characters and some new characters, but with an emphasis on the classic characters. The designers should leave room for other modes and extras.

wrong!
appearently you are not talking about next gen hardware. the new systems coming out would definetly be able to hold 60+ characters and hold up a high quality story mode with no problem. You gotta think about the next gen games coming out. Elder scrolls is coming out on 360 and that is the largest game in history and they said that they still had 30% left of space that they didnt use. and it is a smooth sexy looking game. Then you gotta think about fighters, you dont need much memory/ram to create a fluent fighting game. But 60 characters might be to much but at least everybody would have there favorite character.

Pretty much most of the characters who have not reappeared in either MKDA, MKTE, or MKD are dead. Aside from Rain...who they gave quite the personality in MKD Konquest...I can't see anybody else returning who hasn't already.

Wrong!

You obviously oversetimate the capabilities of the new gen consoles. Given the axiomic fact that consoles aren't as powerfull as top-rate PC's, we can assume i could handle 45 chars at best. You forgot about how much just ONE fighter costs of memory.

If you are referring to the new Elder Scrolls Oblivion game, well, thats specifically designed for high class graphic cards on PC and powerfull comps. That means that the 360 has to be at least as powerfull as out current top comp in some way, but it is dumb to assume it could be as good as a fully equiped PC, since the pre-defined hardware renders this impossible.

When mk:Deception came out, there was 24 characters, and when the confirmation of the biggest roster means that , more then likely 31 playable characters are going to be in mk7, it makes sence, midway would not just add another fighter to make 25, midway would exagerate and think about adding seven more to make 31 because they would think that the fans want alot of players, but we just want a good fighting engine and good fighters, midway keep on adding more fighters in each game:

mk1/ 7
mk2/ 12
mk3/ 15
mk4/ 17
mk5/ 23
mk6/ 24 + Shao Kahn & Goro / 26
mk7/ ?????/ possibly 31 in my opinion

........................anyways, I hope midway think about having such a big roster, anyways, I just hope they do not bring alot of fighter from mk6 into mk7.........that would be using all of the fighters again from mk6 making the game boring..

mk1/ 7 fighters
mk2 / 5 players from mk1 ( 5/12)
mk3/ 5 players from mk2 (5/15)
mk4/ 4 players from mk3 (4/17)
mk5/ 8 players from mk4 (8/23)
mk6/ 6 players from mk5 (6/26)

.......the numbers are not that big of the old players coming back rom the last game, but if mk7 will be bringng some fighters from mk6 back, then I suggest....

1. scorpion
2. mileena
3. sub-zero
4. sindel
5. ermac
6. noob
7. smoke
8. kabal
9. kira

, and all of the other characters could be classicc....anyways what do you people think of my opinion...

Who cares, it really dosent matter. They can put in 100 characters, if the game plays like shit, it will be shit, bottom line. I think the MK team should be worring about more than just the number of characters they can fit in, they should worry about the quality of the game.

Dont get me wrong, story is great and MK blows other fighters out of the water in the story department, but lets face facts, this isnt a book or a movie, its a video game and until it plays as good or better than the rest out there, it will always be subpar. I miss the glory days when MK ruled the fighting game universe, were's the effort MK Team, step up, untuck your nuts from between your legs and bring it back to its former status.furious

ha ha ha dont make me laugh
THAT GAME HAS ALREADY BEEN TOLD THAT IT HAS AN EDGE OVER THE PC VERSION DUE TO THE FACT THAT THERE IS ONLY ONE PC THAT WILL COMPARE TO THE NEXT GEN CONSOLES AND THAT WILL RUN YOU AT ABOUT 4 TO 5 GRAND.
fighting games have already been talked about by all three companies and 360 and ps3 have already said that realisticly the system could hold hundreds of fighters and still keep fighting games graphics at par or better.
so you dont have a clue about that.
if you dont beleive me ign and teamxbox have several faq pages
and one of the latest facts was that nvidia themselves said that their most powerful video card could not and will not hold up against the next gen system and that the card would run at about $1,200
im not tryin to be a dickhead but just read the faq sheets
You really are looking at a crappy game with 60 characters. Even with pallette swaps, it would fail. Why? Because I'm afraid that MK now has to come with more than just a fighting game these days, according to Midway. Very bad stuff...

60 characters MIGHT work if thats the ONLY thing they make. A classic fighter like MK1 and 2.
