Liu Kang vs. Raiden/One Being
The mother of all showdowns I think is about to begin. Liu Kang who has essentially been the main hero of the series vs. the one who has been like a father/mentor to him. If done, this would be one of the most heart wrenching battles that could ever take place, it would like seeing a son have to kill his father to do what's right. That's what I think should happen.

I'd rather have Liu Kang follow Raiden. Raiden would influence Liu Kang to follow the wrong rules by tricking him. After all I believe it is Raiden who will restore Liu Kang back to his former self. Raiden may tell Liu Kang that he must travel with him to accomplish one last task that can benefit Earthrealm to be protected for a long time.

But unknowingly Liu Kang will actually be involved in reviving the One Being and ending the existence of the realms. Raiden has Earth's greatest warrior on his side and has warped his thoughts. So it is up to Fujin and the rest of the Earthrealm warriors who will have to catch up to Raiden and Liu Kang before they destroy the entire universe.

The showdown I would like to see would be Kung Lao against Liu Kang and Raiden against Fujin. Kung Lao will fight Liu Kang and in their battle Liu Kang will see Kung Lao as a great warrior and step down after being defeated by his shaolin brother. Liu Kang would then act upon as aid to the Earthrealm forces leaving Raiden by himself.

Raiden and Fujin will have an epic battle between gods over right before the revival of the One Being, the winner of that battle determines the fate of the universe and all life in it. It would be the most important battle in Mortal Kombat ever.

I don't think Liu Kang should ever be THE main hero (or champion) again. He was for too long, and got really stale. I say they should promote either Kung Lao or (which seems more likely, imo) Sub Zero to becoming the main good guy.

I hate Liu, and killing him was a good move. I guess he can come back, but never again in the top hero spot.
^Face it, Liu Kang is like the Mario or Link of the series. Nobody usually ever replaces the main hero of the video game series, besides I think he's a good character to use, and you Liu Kang haters need to accept this. (that he's been the main hero for a while)

That's one of the issues I'm looking forward to seeing the most in MK7, the possible confrontation between Raiden and Liu Kang. I'm certain Liu Kang would not agree with the methods of the new Raiden, and would want to put a stop to the renegade thunder god if he got out of hand. Liu Kang, in my opinion, is the true protector of Earth Realm. I'd love to see Liu Kang be the one to set Raiden straight agian. Raiden knows Liu Kang has never let him down in his fight for Earthrealm, and I think Liu Kang would have the best chance getting through to the thunder god, though the way Raiden is now it probably wouldn't happen without some kind of conflict between the two.

In responce to the other posts, I'd hate for Liu Kang to fight Kung Lao. They should always be a team! I don't really see any need for them to ever go against each other, and they work so well together. They are the ultimate duo in MK, but they're my all-time favorate characters so of course I'd say that. tongue And I think Liu Kang should stay the hero of MK. Aside from loving the guy too much, he just seems too right for the spot to take off. You have to remember, MK isn't just about the Mortal Kombat tournament anymore. The storyline is so intangled in all these other threats and side storys that Liu Kang is naturally not going to be the only focus here. Every character shines in their own involved story, Liu Kang simply shines as the primary hero as Earth's protector. He's only the champion of the tournament, and everyone else has their own big title to hold. For example: Scorpion's the champion of the Elder Gods, Sub-Zero's the grandmaster of the Lin Kuei, ect. And a lot of these characters could probably care less about being champion of the MK tournament. They're more interested in their own objectives and motives. Therefore, I feel Liu Kang represents exactly what he should. He's the champion of the MK tournament, and is Earth's hero. And his particular storyline is the one I love to follow the most.

Peace. smile

I wouldn't go so far as to think of Liu as "like the Mario or Link of the series." Yes, he's been the hero for a long time, but unlike those games, he's never really been a trademark, an icon of MK. Maybe because there is such a division between MK fans about the man. Unlike most other types of game, beat em ups don't really have "irreplacable main heroes" due to the wider cast of playable characters.

I don't think Liu Kang should be dropped for good (much as I'd like it), but there are more deserving characters for the top hero spot and MK championship. He's had his time to shine, let someone else take the spotlight. Liu is undeniably a good character to use, because he's always been a beginners character, with simple moves. He got stale after MK2.

The only way I'd want Liu to be the hero again is if Boon forced us to choose between Liu and Shujinko (Boon made the threat that the old fart would be "the next Liu Kang").

Shujinko would have been kool if he wasn't such a cheap-ass move thief.
