Series co-creator and NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon accepted the award, appearing during the live pre-show. He described the accolade as "a beautiful, very, very heavy trophy" and a "cherry" on top of their year.

Mortal Kombat X was a strong favourite in its only nominated award category, unchallenged by its established franchise rivals. The 2015 Warner Brothers juggernaut bested cult opposition: Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-, Rise of Incarnates and Rising Thunder

Asked about fan reaction to Mortal Kombat X, Boon noted the phenomenon of the highest selling iteration of the long running series: "It's been amazing". The immediacy of support made Mortal Kombat X the highest selling game for mid-year 2015 after just two months [full story]!

Fan reaction continued to amaze with the official reveal of Kombat Pack 2 downloadable content. While many reported not seeing the advertised exclusive trailer during The Game Awards show, its online release generated strong reactions.
