Story (short and simple)

Shujinko is about to finish off Onaga when Shao Kahn and Goro interrupt taking over the scene. Onaga is killed, reverting back to Reptile, and Shao Kahn takes the Komidogu and the earth warriors corrupted and enslaved by him. Now three evils are appearing: Shao Kahn has regained power in Outworld, Noob is gathering an army of demons and Sektor has formed a massive army out of the Tekunin and they all have their eyes set of earth. Liu Kang returns along with Raiden and Fujin and they enlist whoever they can to fight back against the three terrors.

SUB-ZERO
Stranded in Outworld after being ambushed by Tartakans Sub-Zero comes across Sareena who warns him that his nemesis Sektor has launched an assault on the Lin Kuei and Noob is amassing an army of demons to invade Earthrealm.

REPTILE
After Shao Kahn and Goro destroy Onaga he shrivels back into Reptile and is finished off by Goro’s crushing foot. Feeling pity for him Shao Kahn resurrects Reptile to serve as his personal spy and assassin once again.

QUAN-CHI
When Raiden used the blast in an attempt to destroy Onaga Quan-Chi performed a spell that scattered his energies until he refused sometime later in the Netherealm. This was a one-time only spell and now he is working alongside Noob to build an army of demons.

SCORPION
The chosen one of the Elder Gods Scorpion is assigned to free the souls of the warriors of earth that were corrupted by Onaga (much like how Liu Kang’s corpse was). To free their souls Scorpion must use his fire sword and his first target: Kitana.

KITANA
When the Deadly Alliance defeated the earth warriors Kitana was near death until Onaga corrupted her soul and imprisoned her. Freed by Shao Kahn and now in his control she is assigned to kill Liu Kang.

NOOB
Severely wounded in battle against Ashrah Noob would have been killed but Quan-Chi’s unexpected appearance aided in killing her and by destroying her sword freed a legion of demons. These demons are now in service to Noob.

SAREENA
A traitor to the Brothers of the Shadow Sareena witnesses Quan-Chi’s resurrection and she escapes to Outworld. There she finds Sub-Zero and tells him of two dangers: Noob as well as the cyber army of the Tekunin rising in Japan.

SEKTOR
Defeated by Sub-Zero while battling for the Dragon Amulet Sektor retreats to Japan and he forms the Tekunin. Once fully operational they attack the Lin Kuei, then the Special Forces, before heading into Outworld to automate those willing to serve him.

SHAO KAHN
Aided by Goro Shao Kahn finished off Onaga before Shujinko could and stole all five of the Komidogu. With the Komidogu he has resurrected an army of warriors from Hell and taken control of some of earth’s defeated warriors e.g. Kitana and Jax.


KUNG LAO (Original)
Killed by Goro 500 years ago Kung Lao’s soul was released from Shang Tsung’s body as was Liu Kang’s. Shao Kahn found the monk’s spirit lurking about Onaga’s castle and put him back into a body of Kahn’s choosing to serve him.

JAX
A powerhouse of evil Jax was overcome by Mavado in battle and killed. Onaga brought him back to life as an evil warrior but later lost control of him to Shao Kahn. Jax proves a worthy opponent against his former allies.

KINTARO/GORO (secret sub-boss)
The favored generals of Shao Kahn’s armies Kintaro is resurrected and enlisted in his army alongside Goro over the Shokans. Kintaro and Goro serve together as a tag-team of gargantuan size that will be a challenge to any of earth’s warriors.

MOTARO (secret sub-boss)
Banished from the favor of the Emperor for the Shokans the Centaurs return to their own homelands. Enraged by the Shokans’ victory Motaro will crush anyone that dares oppose him especially any ally of Shao Kahn.

KOCHAL (boss)
A three-headed demon of the Netherrealm Kochal was approached by Quan-Chi and made a deal that if he gave Quan-Chi demons for Noob’s armies Kochal would be set free. The deal is made and Kochal and his Onis are let loose on earth to feed on humans.

- Kochal is a three headed demon serving as the main boss
- While MKD was about bringing back classic characters this game is about bringing in the characters that appeared more as cameos or rumors e.g. Hydro, Khameleon, Sareena
- Motaro, Goro and Kintaro are a secret challenge mode, not actual sub-bosses
- As a sub-boss your character faces their main enemy e.g. Liu Kang/Kitana, Scorpion/Quan-Chi, Sub-Zero/Sektor
