It is probable that most people do not want the usual route. I like heroes, I like values that are ingrained in human survival and helping others survive for the sake of doing so. heroes are necessary.
Just do not make it clear cut, do not preach, MAKE YOU ALWAYS SECOND GUESS is who or what am I rooting for truly good in a hero? Is the objective of the villain truly self-serving evil?

This is why I still hate Shinnok (and the faceless, personality-less goons in MK4 as his flunkies) and found Liu Kang boring untill MK9. This is why I didn't really care for Shang Tsung untill MKDA, this is why Dairou and Hotaru are underrated...
because the majority does not wish to exercise mental and mroal faculties and needs to be spoonfed this senseless black and white chalkboard of good and evil. Dairou's bios has more interesting points than Reiko's overall MK existence combined....
One half of people are stuck in this G I. Joe cartoon like state, the other consists of people who do not care or otherwise are too preoccupied sometimes with the visible coolness of all things dark (masturbatory shite like Rob Liefeld's edgy creations in the nineties).
Oh, and a lot of people completely forgot what an antihero is btw. A person who is in no shape or form heroic but accomplishes heroic deeds. Scorpion is no longer an antihero. Shinji Ikari is more of an antihero than the current Scorpion. And that is terrible.
