I'm still a little undecide on the create a character debat but before we go charging into this consider this: This would be a hell of a lot of work for Midway. I liked MKD but i think Midway slopped it together in time for Christmas. A lot of the aspects of the game could have been better although it still gets a 9/10 from me. Midway might not have the time do even do a create a character mode if they wanted too. I think if midway is able to do it, we should check it out and see how it is. If it is stupid, we scrap it. If it is good, we keep it. Simple as that.

About Me

I don't want a bigger movelist Boon. I want a reason to use more than
10% of the ones you've given me. Fix MK with Move Properties.

If the MK team doesn't spend a lot of time on create a character over the main fighting engine if its included... (doubtful, more likely than not it'll take away from the main game much like the puzzle and chess) and if the MK team could balance it... (doubtful) then I guess it can be included supposing you can't take the character online.

You know, after finding out that Soul Calibur III is going to include a mode that lets you chose the sex, moves, name etc of a character that you create and take through a mode (that's most likely similar to VF4's Kumite mode) I'm even more convinced now.

I think that this is the next big idea in fighting games. In the Genesis/SNES era it was projectiles followed by digitized characters and fatalities, in the PS1 era it was 3D graphics and realistic movement, in the PS2/Xbox era it has been beautiful backgrounds, realistic faces and clothes, and further refinements to the 3D fighter. I believe that the new innovation will come from customization. VF started it with the Kumite Mode. Tekken has added such a mode for it's fifth installment, and now Soul Calibur is chiming in.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating band-wagon jumping here. I've been wanting a create a fighter mode since before MK:DA came out. I simply believe that with the sheer amount of creativity exhibited on this board alone coupled with enough options, an MK spin on it (another words not just cute bracelets and color changes), and a few modes to earn stuff in/trade stuff in, this idea could be taken to the next level.

I don't understand how people could dislike this mode if it's just an extra. This is something infinitely more useful and fun than a simple chess game. Imagine naming a generic character, choosing their race, selecting two regular fighting styles and a weapon style, and then going through the arcade mode, a survival mode, a tag battle mode, etc and earning clothing items, special moves, new hair styles, new fighting styles that you could replace the stock styles with and before you know it you have a creation that is all your own. You keep unlocking new things and changing your character to suit your tastes. Then you create another character, use some of the stuff you have already unlocked, and you keep unlocking more. You download new content. You trade content with people online. You wager items like Kenshi's teleport push versus Cage's shadow uppercut in an online match. Then you wager kurrency which can be used to unlock new items (or hidden characters) in the krypt. Then you wager Rayden's coolie hat against Kobra's hooded shirt. You finally follow that up by wagering an ending scene background (that you can write on) against a story background (perhaps a forrest like Reptiles from MK2).

Wouldn't doing all of this add a ton of replay value to the game? You can create as many characters as your hard drive or memory card will hold, you unlock new stuff, you get to use your creativity, you take these characters online (or not if you prefer to use Mk characters), and you get some truly useful modes to go along with the main game.

Would this be time consuming? Sure, but if Ed and company concentrate on the main game (removing infinites, making the overall gameplay better, adding new characters and refining old ones, new backgrounds etc) and the rest of the teams that work on MK tackle this mode, I don't see why it can't get done in a 2 year cycle. Heck, they could take 3 years if it would make the game better. If Virtua Fighter, Tekken, and Soul Calibur are all doing this, then why not have MK do it and make it better than all of these other games combined? Again, this is just my opinion, but I think it could be a LOT of fun if done right.

SCIII's mode is supposedly clone a character. You just pick what they look like and they have the same exact movelist as another character of the weapon you choose I believe. Im not even sure if its going to be an arcade feature. If its a console only feature and included an array of customization options, more likely than not it'll be banned.

I'm all for MK character creation if the creation is just a mirror. You just pick what they look like and they fight exactly like X character, that's fine.

The MK team just have problems with balance, glitches, bugs, infinites, etc. and they don't even have the basic foundations of a 3d fighter. To give them more factors to take in would be not something the Midway QA team seem to be able to handle.

As for the unique artistic content that is required to fuel these designs that are around this message board...well Namco is a very big whore when it comes to graphics in all of their games. Especially with models and such. However, I'm not sure if Midway can undertake the task without detracting from other things if you want graphical/appearance customization to the level that you seek. More likely than not, if they go with the racial system rather than just humans, it'll be something like 5 different faces, 5 few different upper body customizations, 5 different lower body customizations, 5 different hand customizations and 5 different foot customizations. Or something to that effect. And you know that isn't enough to fuel any of the character creations on this site, not to mention the unique powers that people want to give their own characters.
