I don't get all the hate?

Will he be in story mode? No

Will he affect the events of MKX? No

Will you be forced to buy him if he's DLC? No

Will he "break the game"? No

All I see is Spawn adding to the game. Adding sales, interest from his fans & mutually exposing MKX to a new fanbase & MK fans to Spawn.

I've been a fan of him for years & when I heard about his possible inclusion in MKX I immediately told myself I should probably catch up on his books.

Spawn could be fun, but I'd prefer the Violator. It seems like such freaky creatures are more rare as guests.

Anyway, if we get Spawn, I hope it's Al Simmons instead of the current Spawn, Jim Downing.

Yeah I am excited if he is one of the guest characters. All I need now is Ash and then I will be fine. Ash VS Spawn needs to happen.

I think the only people upset have never read Spawn comics, and the people who are on board have and understand the possibilities. If you haven't read the comic, fuck you and your uneducated opinion if you're against it. Spawn will fit ridiculously well if he's in the game as a guest. More than god damn Freddy..or Jason..or Predator..

All I know of Spawn is the movie that came out ages ago with some little blue guy in it. He looks like a good choice, I'm hoping for Pinhead and/or Predator too.

Spawn is Mortal Kombat. More so then some of the characters that was in it from the past. Plus they already said in the bonus pack we are getting a guest character. What the hell is so suprising about Spawn being in MKX?

These two questions are a big reason why those of us who dislike guest characters think they're completely pointless. The time spent on them could be given to a MK character who would have an impact on the story and the events of the game.

A big problem I have with guest characters is keeping them recognizable and that generic "dimension travel" story line. How cool would it be if they redesigned Kratos as an Outworld warrior or Freddy as an actual Netherrealm demon. Or in Soul Caliber, having Jedi's was ridiculous, re designing them as era appropriate swordsmen? That would be cool IMO. Spawn would fit perfectly... If they redesigned him to fit into MK. The reasons I hate this kind of thing is that's NEVER going to happen. This is all about having an iconic character people recognize and making the most $$$ possible.

IMO Spawn does not fit MK. Why, he's violent, he's scary? This isn't KI guy's it's not just a mish mash of wacky fighters from all around. Asian Mysticism, with a bit of gun ho G.I. Joe stuff on the side. Don't see where Spawn fits in. Spawn nerd here and his hell isn't like Netherealm, it's not even that similar to traditional Christian hell, it's its own thing entirely. This is all just my opinion BTW. I'm 100% for Spawn if he is their own incarnation... but there's no way in hell (no pun intended) that's gonna happen. And ya I know this is all speculation and he hasn't been confirmed lol.

It would be SOOO easy to just make their own Al Simmons. U.S. Special forces agent, main man for those dirty missions others don't want to do. He dies on a mission and goes to hell. He meet's this friendly white bald dude who promises to make him powerful in exchange for his soul. Those scummy Black Dragon dudes kidnapped his family so obviously he say's yes. That or "What is this strange world I'm in... I must get back to my world"

I would prefer not to have any guest characters, because it feels it takes away from the Kombatants themselves.

But i guess if we HAVE to have a guest Spawn is pretty cool.

This is the reason I think a guest character is cool. It gives you something fun to experience that only existed in your imagination before. I do see the point you made about how they are unimportant to the narrative and the game as a whole. However, I see it in the same vain as big head mode; it's there for when you want to go crazy.

I dunno that's sorta like suggesting to put Mario in. It would be fun big head mode type thing right? Why not both? jpeg. A wacky/fun guest that actually fits.

I think Spawn is a logically superior choice to Mario. The fun isn't "How craaaazy is that?!" it's the what-if scenario of those compatible worlds colliding. If you take Al Simmons and change him into being a full-fledged MK character that is reminiscent of Spawn, you lose that quality and now you just have a rip-off of Spawn. I would personally prefer the guest characters to have a superficial "dimension-travel" story because making guest characters a legitimate part of the canon is like getting a fly in your ointment. The story shouldn't be taken seriously because the participation of the character in the game isn't that serious. Though I do understand the opposite side of saying, if it's not serious why do it at all.

I think they did that in Street Fighter lol as a skin at least. That's taking the worse case scenario and using it as a counter-argument. It should be something that appeals to the fan base. Thats why we got dark killers as guest in MK9. If you dreamed of Kano cutting up Mario with knifes and ripping his heart out... you're probably more of a Luigi guy. In MK9 we had Kombat Kodes that did everything from unlimited super meter to rainbow blood. That's the kind of crazy I was talking about.

Spawn fits in MortaL Kombat. Heck, he fits better than KabaL does.

I feel like the inclusion of Spawn will lead to the inclusion of Kratos as well. I think the developers will want to see a rematch from ScrewAttack's DeathBattle. Link below...

Writing the story is crucial, as for coming up with a list of characters that will be in the game and their role in the story. That means the list of said characters that will be in the game is written in advance and not just randomly pulled out of their ass every other month like some people still believe.

Guest characters have no impact on that at all. As said before, they're not even in the game's story. Which means there IS time spent given to a MK character (on that list) who could have an impact on the story and the events of the game.

I would hate to believe the story writer is also the character designer, character modeler, animator, and programmer....The last time I checked, they have departments that handle certain task like that. This isn't 1992.

A character that's absent isn't because a guest character took their place.
A more logical reason would be because the creators had no reason to put them in the story.

Again, why can't we get the Violator/Clown instead? He'd be way more fun and unusual. The Violator vs Goro and any of MK's freaks would be awesome.

NRS has explicitly said they don't want to use the same guest characters. Kratos and Freddy aren't happening. Which frankly, bums me the fuck out. Kratos played like crap in MK9, the variation system is perfect for him.

About Spawn, I'm all for his inclusion. He could have some really sick moves and fatalities.

Guest characters should be from past Midway games, who'd like to see a Smash TV character as one of the guests?

And maybe Torque from The suffering too. Shit, Dovahkiin and Voldemort would fit better than super heros given the fact that they share the same world.
