Personally, I think that the next MK games should forget the weapons. They should keep the 2 fighting styles, but improve it, making them more real.

It will look like the first MK like 1.

I actually like the weapons but it would be cool if you could knock your oppents weapon out and pick it up like in mk4

Weapons are a must... and please, more diversity in the selection next time.

One hand-to-hand style along with one weapon would be ideal.

Basically said it for me.

I would be very dissapointed if weapons weren't in future MK games.

I'll agree with Crow that there should be only one weapon style and one non-weapon style. However, if the last two games are any indication of how weapons will be in future MK games, then I say don't bother. Just about everyone has a sword or a staff of some sort, with very little in the way of unique weapons. I think it'd be nice if they included a whip, a ball and chain, a boomerang, a 3 part staff (sorry I don't remember the name), etc etc. The MK team could use weapons to make characters even more unique, with vastly different uses for weapons. Grabbing someone's ankle with the whip and pullint their legs out from under them for example. But if the MK team is just going to stick to slashes, uppercut slashes, and dull 2 or 3 hit combos, then I say give a few characters weapons for special moves and what not, and leave the other characters alone (on that not, I would love to see Scorpion use his harpoon spear as a weapon, I could think of about 20 moves he could do with that weapon alone).

I agree also. Weapons need to stay and need to be more original. The actual attacks and combos need to be unique and not copied too.

Only if weapon combat has as many moves and combos as Soul Calibur and if the combat is as fluent as SC.

Notice how I said fluent and not button mashing friendly, I'm keeping the non-mashing n00b players in mind that exist in the SC world that are overlooked by the amount of n00bs.

Oh, very bad suggestion. Weapons are awesome in the latest MKs and must always remain.

I don't agree with u at all.

Yes, they should definitly do one hand-to-hand style and one weapon style. The problem with weapon fighting now is that it is to similar to hand-to-hand fighting. They need to make hand-to-hand and weapon fighting very different from each other, with many advantages and disadvantages for each. The hand-to-hand style and the weapon should also suit the character (treat them as if they were somebody's special move, like how scorpion has the spear and sub-zero has the freeze).

I don't want a bigger movelist Boon. I want a reason to use more than
10% of the ones you've given me. Fix MK with Move Properties.

Maybe for some and maybe not for others? While it's nice to see some characters whip out their weapons that have been signature to them, seeing other whip out weapons seems kinda odd. I think it's hard to balance weapon fighting with hand-to-hand fighting because fluid fighting from both is vastly different in terms of speed. Big weapons will always take more time to swing than it is to throw a punch, therefore big weapons will have long execution times if MK decides to do fluid animation. I dunno, I'm in favor of the characters like Mileena, Kitana, and Baraka where their weapon defines them and their weapons are basically short-range extensions and therefore comparable in speed to hand-to-hand combat though.
Take Heihachi in SC2 for example. No one in that game compares to Heihachi on the playstation 2 because he is so fast and therefore so safe compared to all the other fluid weapon users. Almost everything from heihachi is unpunishable if played right (in Tekken, hella characters would stop him with even basic jab strings), but in SC2... weapon swings were just too slow. Only ones that could fight him semi-decently was the short-weapon characters like Talim, Taki, and such.
So if they do decided to add big weapons in MK7 and then make it unfluid, we'd be back to 50/50 games again. If they try to balance it, with a weapon always being slower, it'd had to have some mad properties like a lot of guard crushing moves or something.
More stances for characters without weapons can be given in a way that it incorporates in and out of their normal stance. Like Bo Rai Cho can have multiple sub-stances in his drunken fighting instead of a staff.

Yes to weapons i dont beleive they should mess with the fighting system that they have allready i think it should be left alone becuase its very well done, and yes i understand that the fighting system in mk:d has some glitches but bugs can be worked out

If they're more unique, more fluid, and can be stabbed into enemies again, yes. Like I think Baraka and Sub-Zero had good weapons. Scorpion's sucked. Raiden's sucked. Too plain.

The more complex is the weapon, the less usefull it becomes in adwanced situations. This translates to: plain weapons have a lot more possibilities. And hell don't remake MK4 Sonyas wind blades or boomerangs again. those are useless in real fights.

Well said! I'd also like to add that I hated it on mk4 when you dropped your weapons and then you had to try and skirsh a round, duck, and pick it up.

I say no, because I only want one "style" per character.

If weapons could be drawn out as if changing into another stance within the one style of play (like a 'sub-stance' - like changing 'stances' in VF or Tekken), then it'd be great.
I like the weapons in MK.

I also want it to be 1 hand style and 1 weapon style. Both intricate like SC and Tekken.

If they took the weapons out I wouldn't mind though.

Weapons in Mortal Kombat must be kept. I mean, they not perfect but it would be very upsetting if they are taken out. What I and some other MK fans I seen here think they should do is to just leave one fighting style per character, make real and efficient, perfected as much as possible and live one weapon style which they could improve also.

I love weapons in MK. I really think they should return, but they need a more intricate system.
They also need a way to knock the weapons away, or maybe break them.
I would also like to see a grapple-type move that could possibly steal an opponents weapon.
However, to even bother pulling them out with a risk like that, the weapon system needs to prove a bit more usefull.

They need to do it like MK4. Add an unsheathing animation. Make it possible to knock a weapon out of someones hand. make it so you can pick weapons up when dropped. Immagine a level with walls upon walls of staffs swords and axes all pickupable. also Fix the fighting engine. lose the moves list, its better for everyone. Or lose the weapons entirely.
one stance per person would be better.
