Before you go to respond to this thread, hear what I mean by salvageable. I mean characters that you see as having alot of potential, but are less regarded by you and/or the MK community because the MK team messed something up with the character. Maybe they have crappy moves and a good story, or maybe they look really cool but have lame moves. Or maybe they've been a bit or episodic character up until now, but you think they could be more. By that I don't mean a minor character that you've always liked. I mean a character that you'd like to see more of because you think they have potential. Get the difference? Basically, a failed or flawed character that you think the MK team should take another crack at.
I keep seeing threads about "which characters should be in MK7" or "which characters do you never want to see again" but I've never seen a thread about "which characters do you think the MK team messed up, but should try again?" That's this thread. So I'm NOT asking you which character that hasn't been in an MK game do you think should return. If you really like Rain or Sektor or Sareena or whoever, but they haven't been around lately, then they wouldn't be what I'm asking for. This isn't a "favorite character" thread. Explain what's wrong with the character and what potential you see in them. Maybe, if you want, also say how you'd fix them. Here's my list:
Kira: She had a decent story and a very cool look, but her styles and specials were ALL taken from Kano and Sonya. That was just laziness to me. I think that, as cool as she looks, as well as her plotline with the Black Dragon, she could be alot more. I'd like to see her in a plotline that puts her between Kabal and Kano for control of the Black Dragon. Who will she side with? I could also see her in a bigger plot where she is on opposite sides of the Black Dragon. Maybe they're siding with the new evil and she believes that the new evil will kill the Black Dragon after they win, so she secretly sides with Earth's Warriors and spies on her former kinsmen. Either way, I think she has alot of unmet potential.
Shinnok: Oh hear me out. He had no moves of his own (he's basically Shang Tsung without the morphing effect) and arguably the worst costume of any MK character ever. But the evil bellhop was an Elder God. The MK team should really take a new crack at him. Maybe a new look that's more Netherealm god-like and special moves that are more befitting an elder god. Try to imagine some moves that not just a god would have, but an Elder God! Suddenly he seems to have alot of potential.
Kung Lao: I think that his biggest weakness has always been his story. He never seems to have a plot more than "Earthrealm warrior" but basically he's been Liu Kang's sidekick. Lame. I think his look, with the razor hat covering his face and what not is sweet. I think he has alot of potential to be the new hero of MK. I think his plot would be reenergized if he became the reluctant hero, doubtful of his allies and his abilities when Liu Kang has (finally) passed on into the next realm. Will he be the hero that Earth needs? Or will he abandon his destiny, his history, in Earth's greatest time of need? Something like that perhaps.
Tanya: There are alot of Tanya haters out there, and I can understand why. Her plot in MK:D as in MK4 was, quite simply: She's evil. She's scheming and underhanded and does bad things like tipping Outworld cows and wearing too much black and yellow. However, I think that in MK:D the MK team actually pulled through on the special moves. She was one of my favorite characters to fight with, lack of story and boring look aside. I'd like to see the MK team take one more crack at giving her a true purpose in the game aside from deceiving others or using the last sheet of toilet paper without replacing the roll.
Hotaru: I had such high hopes for him. He had a cool look, probably one of the best in MK6. But that godawful story coupled with his completely unoriginal special moves and styles (One of Scorpions styles from MK5, turning Sub-Zero's ground freeze into a fireball, and a thinly veiled Liu Kang bicycle kick do not an orignal character make). But if the MK team got rid of the order Vs choas storyline (one of the worst in MK) I think this guy still has loads of potential. Maybe a plot where he realizes the fault of his overly ordered existence, and in his haste to repent for the sorrow the seidans have brought on their people, seeks a new path, only to end up being misguided again. Only this time he is quick to realize it, and he must battle his way out of evil, with his old order feelings and newly misguided views getting in his way. Complicated? Perhaps, but a much better plot than what he had in MK6. Oh yeah, and about four or five more special moves that don't suck would be nice.
Drahmin: The guy had basically no story, other then slipping out of the netherealm and becoming Quan Chi's personal caged dog. His moves, though unique to his character, were negligable at best. No real combos to speak of either. Still, I think that Drahmin has a ton of potential. I'd like to see him reappear in MK7, emerging from Quan Chi's mean bean machine as something completely different. Not a monster or anything that silly, but something new. I liked his look in MK5, with the mask, but I think that they could keep that and chenge the dead body, flies all around him look. I'd like to see him more human, but something sinister.
Those are just six characters that I thought up off the top of my head, but I believe there are many others out there. I'll list a few more later. But please, list your own. I'd like to see who you guys dislike, but see potential in. Who would you have the MK team take another crack at?

I believe they should work on new and improved Fujin, Shinnok, Kira and Stryker.
Fujin--The god of wind, one time defender of the Temple of the Elements, one of the only two surviving Earthrealm gods and the current Sworn Protector of Earthrealm. Give him an updated look and a better weapon. *sigh* Someone needs to balance the so-call 'evil' Raiden
Shinnok--Hello...a fallen Elder God. What else you need to know....ok. A new look, have him get back his medallion and thus his real power. *insert evil laughter*
Kira--pretty much what he said. She has alot of potential but just seemed to be an 'evil' Sonya for some reason. Earthrealm needs more female fighters and she can fit the bill with a little more work.
Stryker--The only 'normal' person among earth's defenders and the most under rated. Seems kinda strange that MK predicted that a NY cop would be trying to save NY from an outside threat years before 9/11. Give him a real uniform (either riot or SWAT), a decent weapon and story.

I like this thread as it will change some people's minds on characters they hate.
And here's mine:
- Fujin - It's been a while since we've seen him so he'll need a makeover in looks. MK7 would be very good for him to make a return as he can stop evil Raiden.
- Nightwolf - His looks are okay but I think he needs a better storyline. He is entering the Netherealm, but at what price? Maybe he could turn evil at this stage from the corruption. If you still want Nightwolf to be good then let him ally with Ashrah since they are both into holy stuff. I think his moves need changing. I found him very cheesy in MK: D. And remove his lightning move as that's a rip off Rain.
- Li Mei -Her look needs to change badly. I think she may be heading towards a soilder like look. Her bikini attires make her a joke. In fact just about all female MK fighters are jokes. We need to become more serious. Her moves are good. She needs a change badly in storyline. She seems to be either a slave or a victim. She needs to stand up for herself. If the first part of her ending (She turns on the good guys to side with Onaga) is true then she might get herself into trouble.
- Tanya - She could get one more chance because I think her moves are heaps better in MK: D. Okay she has yellow/black clothes, so what....
It's not like she is a clone of Scorpion or anything. People that hate her because she is a "yellow ninja" is sheer stupidity. I think her rivalry with Jade and Sindel should go deeper. Bring in Kitana and Mileena into the feud and you got a good Edenian storyline. And don't forget Shao Kahn.

Havik:I hated him in Deception, but it seems there were al lot of Havik fans!
I thought his moves and story were original, but I stink at playing with him and he's part of the Chaos/Orderrealm bull.I have to give him points for ressurecting Shoa Kahn and having original moves.
I'll be back with more later.

Mavado. Cool looking character with piles of potential for a lot of unique moves with the ropes, but he was injected into the tired Black Dragon story that nobody cares about anymore and given a previous character's weapon so I think people dismiss him pretty quickly as filler.
Bring him back with his old rope moves and a few new one's, give him some kind of medievil looking equivalent of a chainsaw for a weapon, and have him feud with Sektor or something in MK7.

I could list quite a few in this category, as I like quite a few of the less popular characters.
Mavado- Imo, THE most underrated character after Stryker. he was much better with the hookswords than Kabal, and his long fist style was great for juggle combos and defensive play. Just give him a couple more special moves, that's it really. He has so much going on in the story, and connections to many other characters.
Nitara- A great character with a lot of potential. Nitara deserves to be more than a one hit wonder. She was different to most MK women, and they could do a lot more with the vampire powers. Please Midway, don't let this unique, standout sexy vampire woman just disappear into obscurity.
Stryker- The most underrated man in MK. I have never understood why he's so hated. He was a great character, fighting with weapons rather then magic or whatever, and fit the MK3 setting perfectly. All he really needs is new outfits, a SWAT uniform, and as an alternate maybe a plainclothes look with trenchcoat. MK needs a more normal fighter.
Kai- He was akward to play as, and didn't have much going for him story wise. But his caperoia moves made him a very unique fighter, and one I think would work perfectly in the 3 style system. I'd like to see him with caperoia as a main style, along with his machete and a Shaolin kung fu style, wushu maybe.
Kira- Along with Havik, the only MKD newcomer with real potential for the future. A great bad girl design, easily the best of the boring new lack Dragon. But she's let down by a copied moveset, give her her own styles and moves, and let her carry on from MKD without Ken, I mean Kobra.
Fujin- He was kinda boring in MK4/MKG, but a character with wind powers has a lot of potential. With Raiden going crazy, he will fill an important role as the good, sane god guiding the heroes. Just give him some unique wind based moves.
Johnny Cage- I'm not sure if this is the right category to put him in, as Johnny is a longtime veteran. Johnny has always been a love him or hate him character, but, imo, MK isn't the same without him, he's light releif with tons of personality. He's one of the most well rounded fighters, and an MK veteran, can we please have an interesting storyline for him now? Aside from the badly retconned death/ressurection, he hasn't really evolved much.

Red Dragon, I think that Cage is a good fit for this thread. He's a classic character, but his storylines have been repetitive and dull to the point where most people wanted him to stay dead. I think that he could do well with a new plotline and perhaps a freshened up appearance.
Ya know, I never thought about how cool Stryker could look with a SWAT or Special Ops type uniform. I'd definitely be down with a character like that, but for the love of god, give him some cooler moves than that awkward baton flip move. If he's Special Ops, can you imagine how many types of cool, military style moves they could give him? Lots of potential there.
I was also going to say Li Mei, and here's why:
Li Mei: Her moves are average, but her story is seriously lacking and her outfits make her look like just another MK spandex chick. The MK team needs to really consider looking into the fact that female fighters can be sexy without having size triple D's hanging out of some flimsy dental floss of an outfit. I would make her more of a savage type character. She's been to a dark place, having been locked inside of one of Onaga's soldiers. Something that traumatic, being evil without any control over yourself has to do something to her. I'd like to see the MK team explore that more. Not just with possibly siding with Onaga, but perhaps she gains more power and doesn't know who to trust. Either way, I could possibly see a plot developing between her and Kung Lao, as both could be two alienated souls, thrown together by fate. Just an idea. Can he save her? Can she save him? Can they save themselves from their own inner demons? I'd also like to see her with fighting styles that are more fluid. She should be faster, more agile, and able to use enemies attacks against them. (no, I don't mean 3 lame counters per match)
Jax: I know that most people are completely sick of him, but I still remember him being a total badass from MK2. I think the MK team could restore him to his former glory. Not with a one shot, contrived "save Sonya" type of plot either, but a real plot for him. I'd also like to see his dominance return. Jax was cool because of his gotcha grab, his backbreaker etc. Players new that he was a powerhouse because of the way he could manhandle opponents. That's the kind of Jax that needs to return. Not the "awww yeaaah" gold medalian blacksploitation garbage we saw in MK:DA. The MK team should leave behind the stereotypes on this try. Also, give him fighting styles that reflect his personality. If he's dominant, give him dominant styles. As far as plot goes, I could see him developing a plot of his own, perhaps with a new character. A female love interest? Sonya? Maybe a problem develops between himself and the Outworld Investigation Agency that forces him to look at things differently? His old alliances stripped away? Who knows, but he was great once, and I think he could be again.

Li Mei is also a character I would love to see back. She is one of my favourites of the more recent MK intake. I much preferred her MKDA Oriental/kung fu outfit than the generic bikini (though I liked the MKD bikini/bandana combo) or the Power Ranger looking armour. I think her colours should change, and there's some great MKDA concept art of her in red and yellow robes, which I thought looked really good on her.
Story wise, I do not think Li Mei should turn evil. She has that kind of inexperienced, naive student personality you don't really get in MK, and this gives her a lot of potential for future development. I had an idea of having her fight an inner conflict between good and evil, and looking for Ashrah's Kriss blade in the Netherrealm, since that sword can cleanse a soul. If she's done right, I think Li Mei could become a major player among the MK good guys.

In my opinion, a lot of characters are beyond the point of being salvaged. But here are some of the ones I think could come back:
Dairou:
Well, concepts of him were put in the Krypt in MK:DA. A lot of hype was then created as it was hinted that he would be in the next game, and he seemed interesting as he was built up as a Samurai. But in MK:D they changed his concept, and made him a mercenary. Lots of people didnt like this, and felt it wasted him and made him a filler. Also his cheese with the Tombstone Drop annoyed lots of people. But, IMO, Dairou's 'weak' story actually opens him upto a lot of possibilites. he is a mercenary up for hire. he has no real aligence to anyone, giving lots of potential. His abckstory about his family etc also leaves potential for him to develop too. I think he can go far.
Drahmin:
What exactly happened to him? Ok, the flies were annoying, but other than that I think Drahmin was a fairly solid character. I dont see any reason why he shouldnt return.
Fujin:
Built up in MK4 to take over from Rayden as Earth's protector. I believe this happened, but Fujin just got left behind. I did like him during MK4, but lack of development and no appearances since has let him down. Its time for him to step up and Rayden to take a back seat.
Hsu Hao:
Yes. Hsu Hao. I really liked Hsu Hao, perhaps Im a rarity in that. But, I think Hsu Hao's story has some potential, depending on how you look at it. He played a big role in MK:DA by destroying the Special Forces base etc, and along with Mavado introduced a new clan. We dont know for sure that Jax's ending happened, so Hsu Hao could still be alive. IMO (although its not stated as such) Jax's MK:DA ending happened after they attacked the Deadly Alliance. All the earthrealm warriors endings in MK:DA went toward them defeating the DA, but we now know they didnt. So Hsu Hao COULD still be alive. his potential lies in the loss of Mavado, the uprise of the new Black Dragon and The Special Forces stuff.
Kai:
IMO, a welcome addition to the forces of good. I also think a lot of Earth's warriors are becoming stale (Jax, Sonya, Liu Kang, Cage). Kai could be worked easily back into the story. Its also a mystery what he has been upto since MK4, which is quite interesting and mysterious. his potential lies, strangely, in his absence. Where has he been. Who has he come across. How have his travels affected him. And the Earth Warriors needs fresh story and people.
Khameleon:
Well, I really like Khameleon and her story. Was let down by being a palette swap and only available in the N64 version of one game. She has masses of potential, mainly invloving the raptor species and Rpetile. Whether Reptile lives or dies, Khameleon can be fitted into a MK story nicely. Also, with the presence of Onaga, she could play a big role in either serving him, or trying to take him down.
Nitara:
I fail to see why she wasn't in Deception. Rayden's ending in MK:Da pointed toward the Vampires being a major threat. Ok, we don't know his ending was cannon or anything, but the Vampire story could add freshness to the story in general. it adds a new race, an unkown realm and therefore lots of potential. Nitara was one of the best newcomers since MK4. Shame to waste her by letting her slip out and be forgotten.
Reiko:
We need to find out basically who Reiko is. Finally dispell rumours that he is Shao Kahn. He was enigmatic and mysterious. Also there are hints toward ties with Sareena/Kia/Jataaka......i beleive theres more to Reiko than meets the eye.
Shinnok:
Had a fairly good story in MK4, but was wasted by having no moves of his own and being placed as basically a Shang tsung rip-off, and a rather poor one at that. he isnt a character i would immediatley think of if asked who I would like to return, but he deserves another shot. Perhaps he could return, or be mentioned in the the next MK installment, and built up for a return in the one after that. He has lots of potential due to his backstory.
These characters dont need salvaged YET, but I'll add my views anyway.
Kung Lao:
Needs to become more thatn just an EarthRealm fighter. I really like Kung Lao, but he doesnt have much purpose now other than to fight for Earth. Ok, thats a big purpose, but he is growing stale. Hopefully we find out more about what happened under Onaga's control and this will lead to some good future stories.
Kitana
Ton of potential. Of the 5 fallen EarthFighters (technically she isnt an earth fighter, but you know what I mean), Kitana has the most importance to the storyline, because, she is tied with a lot of characters and tied well into the storyline. Also, she is the only one that is referred to in other characters MK:D bios/endings, not much is said about the other 4. onaga seems very interested in her, hopefully we will find out why. I am a huge Kitana fan (no pun intended) but I will be the first to admit her story needs a boost. I would like to see Kitana evil again for a while. Not permanently, but I think being evil under Onaga's contorl will be most beneficial to Kitana. She used to be evil. this might stir up some old feelings of hate and anger and such like. Also, relace Ba Gua with somethign decent.
Sareena:
Well, what can I say about Sareena. Ummmm...LOTS. For me, THE most underrated and underused characters of MK. She has an ever growing fan base, and its about time she made a full transission from Side game to Main game. originally in MKM:Sz and added to MK:DA in MK:TE, Sareena was built up to fit perfectly into MK:D. But they didnt use her. What a waste. She has tons and tons of potential, and for someone who hasnt really made a mainstream game, her story is very well developed....more so thatn some of the mainstream characters. She is tied to a good few characters, has a neutral alliance, the ability to remain neutral, turn good, turn evil, or do as she wishes to suit her needs. Also, she is on of the few in the story other than Scorpion, to be tied directly to Both Sub Zero Brothers. Also, she probably doesnt know Noob Saibot is the old Sub Zero.....whom she helped. Yet noob Saibot has since shunned her froom the brotherhood of Shadows. Interesting stuff. I'll stop now lol you can folow the link in my sig to see Myself and XiahouDun's many ideas for her.
Sindel:
Vastly becoming a filler. She served her purpose in Mk3/UMK3/MKT. I am a Sindel fan, but I thought her introduction back into the series was very poor. Ok, Kitana is her daughter, obviously she'd want to help her, but the story doesnt make Sindel stand out. I dont think she is beyond salvaging.....yet, but she really needs to tie into with characters.

Reiko
Granted Reiko was not a stroke of genius when he first appeared, but he had potnetial and I thought he was cool. Had they followed through on his hinted connection to Sareena, maybe he could've been salvaged in MK4, but unfortunately they lumped him into "Shao Kahn bitch" land which only created controversy. And sadly, to this day, there are fans who believe he is Shao Kahn or Kahn's clone/brother/son.
I think if they brought back Reiko and returned to his original conception as a Netherealm general which a connection to Sareena (which could be anything; brother/protecter/lover/stalker/rival/etc) and built that up, along with giving him a revamped appearence so he doesn't like so much like a ninja swap, then I think Reiko can be salvaged.
ONLY THEN, when Reiko is well established as his own character, MAYBE they can delve into his history as a Shao Kahn minion.
Tanya
I think Tanya has a lot of unused potential. They're wasting her by keeping her as another Kano which I think is a shame. They should build her up as the true mega-bitch of Mortal Kombat. She's evil because she wants to be and enjoys it. Unlike Mileena who's somewhat sympathetic, there is no tragedy motivating Tanya. Since Tanya is fairly unlikable, I think they should run with that.
Another wasted aspect of Tanya is/was her "feud" with Jade. Thus far, there's almost no developement on Jade's side, and Jade isn't even mentioned once on Tanya's side. They should build their history together, and really develope their rivalry. I say this, not just as a Tanya fan, but a Jade fan who'd like her to become more than just "Kitana's sidekick."
Another possibility for Tanya is a feud with Mileena. Have Tanya challenge Mileena for the Edenian throne. Seduce Baraka and use him against her. Rat Mileena out to all the good guys that she's not Kitana and rat her out to the bad guys that she's betrayed them. Evil bitch against evil bitch.
Mavado
I thought Mavado was cool and I liked the Red Dragon. I never liked Kano, so I never gave a rat's ass about his Black Dragon, but the Red Dragon sounded much cooler. They also tried to establich in MK:DA that Mavado would be a greater threat to Sonya than Kano, which could have been interesting, had they followed through on it. And the end of MK:DA hinted a rivialy with Sub-Zero and the Lin Kuei. Mavado had lots of potential and could've gone far.
Unfortunately, he's apparently dead now, so even if he does come back, he already has that taint on him. Fucking waste.
Drahmin
I liked Drahmin's story and I thought the idea of his character was cool. Unfortunately, they gave him pretty crappy moves and I personally didn't care for his diaper primary attire. Both of these flaws can be easily fixed. He has ties to the Netherealm which is already a pretty big sub-plot by itself. I think he could easily play a role there.
Khameleon
I thought Khameleon had a decent story with lots of potential. She adds an interesting dimension to Reptile and his story, and since I think it's a safe bet he'll be back when this Onaga situation is over, I'd be interested in seeing where Khameleon comes in.
Her only problem was she was yet another pallette swipe and she had no moves of her own. Both these things could be easily fixed.
Nitara
Nitara was cool and she has plenty of potential. Only problem was, the MK team hasn't bothered to expand on any of it. I myself don't really have any conrete ideas on Nitara or what she can do in the future, but I'd definitly like to see her back.
Rain
Yet another character with potential hindered by being yet another pallette swipe. I think Ermac is a pefect example of how they can revamp a character's appearence and with everything that's going on with the Edenia plotline, Rain could easily return.
Shinnok
Shinnok had/has a good story, but they screwed him over royally by making him a poor man's Shang Tsung in MK4. I really think the mad Elder God could play a cool role in the upcoming story, especially with Raiden losing it and the One Being emerging as a threat. As an Elder God, Shinnok would know more about the One Being than anyone else, and I just think it'd be interesting what role he'd play with Raiden.
He just needs a better appearence and his own moves.
Kira
Kira looks interesting IMO. I'd like her to be developed more and see where she goes. She just needs her own moves and a better rendered face.
Kintaro
I think Kintaro is much cooler than Goro and I'd rather have seen him come back. Way I'd do it, play Kintaro up as a raging nutball who hates that he's constantly stuck in Goro's shadow. So he's desperate to prove he's the strongest Shokan which can lead him to join Onaga...or maybe even Edenia.
Not to mention I think he'd look bad ass in 3D.
Kia/Jataaka
I'd like to see Kia and/or Jataaka get a shot. Why not? She/they could want revenge against Sareena and/or Ashrah for betraying the Brotherhood and they could work for either Quan Chi or Noob Saibot or maybe both.
I personally prefer Kia of the two, but either one can be used.
Ashrah
I liked Ashrah even though her story is painfully similar to Sareena's. Nevetheless, after she escapes the Netherealm, one way or another, she could end up on Earth and decide to continue hunting evil and monsters. This could lead to a rivalry with Sareena. Then when she learns Sareena turned against the Brotherhood, they could join up. Ashrah could try to keep Sareena on the side of good, among many other possibilities within the Netherealm plotline.
I don't really count Sareena as a character that needs to be salvaged. She needs to BE in a damn game first. MKKitana pretty much summed it up.
Same thing with Sektor.

My most salvageable characters are:
-Rain He has always been one of my favorite characters in the MK series and many people think of him as just a pallete swap ninja. The reason I think people feel this way about him is because he was only included in one game and has one of the shortest stories in the whole entire MK series. His story on MKT may have played a small part in the overall storyline at that time but I think that his ending on MKT could lead Rain in a very interesting direction, story wise. His come back can have many, many possibilities leading him in a new direction. As for his costome I have no worries because after we've seen the new revamped looks given to all the ninjas I know that he will definetly be given a unique look in which he still has his primary purple colors and mask even if he is in MK7.
-Stryker Read the above statements about him. It contains all of what I would have said.
-Nightwolf He was given a very boring storyline in MKD and many people lost interest in him. Fighting wise he was impressive and had unique special moves. Even though his story may have been a bit dull, I still believe that he has potential for a great story if the MK team really puts in the effort to do his story in MK7.
-Reptile He unfortunetly lost control of his body due to Onaga taking over it and changing it to look more like himself. If he is lucky, Sindel's ending will turn out to be canon and he will gain control of his original body again (that is if he is even alive after changing back). As seen in Sindel's ending he clearly was more human like than lizard like which is sure to please many MK fans such as myself, but not everybody. If he survives this encounter the MK team should be able to give him a decent story for MK7.

Xaihou, SubZero2 and MKKitana hit on three characters that I also think could be salvaged.
Mavado: I don't have any real attachment to Mavado, as his story was kind of plain and his moves were, to me, nothing less than a complete let down. When Boon described what Mavado was capable of in an interview before MK:DA's release, I had images in my mind of this guy that used grappling hooks to go all over the arena and do amazing (and really fun) things to his opponents. What we got were three special moves (two of which were dodge moves). As far as his moves are concerned, I'd like to see the elasto bands replaced with chains. I'd like to see him use two large hooks and chains to get around the arena, as well as for his weapon and many special attacks. If you're conjuring images of Spawn, and the many things that he can do with chains, you're not far off from my train of thought here.
As for his look, I thought it was really cool. The black trench coat, the very normal appearance belying the fact that he was in a position of great power. I'd like to see that look return (though his second costume was downright silly). He had a sort of grim, gritty, almost "high noon" look to him that I definitely dug. As for his story, well, the Black Dragon broke off from the Red Dragon. What's he going to do about it? Send Hsu Hao to get killed by Jax? Get killed (possibly) by Kabal? The MK team introduced a whole new plot twist to the tired old Black Dragon storyline. I'd like to see them continue it and really see it through. What would Mavado look like if he were nearly killed by Kabal? Would there be internal strife in the Red Dragon due to the deaths of their strongest generals? Will there be all out war between the two clans? Where does Kano figure into all of this? Could he turn on his former brethren? Lot's of ideas could be hashed out here.
Reptile: I'll be the first to admit that I absolutely hated Reptile's transformation. He looked silly to me in MK:DA. After being this shadowy assasin in MK1 and 2, he became downright corny to me. While Reptile becoming the DK was a good plot twist, it was less to Reptile's benefit than Onaga's. Reptile had no real involvement as himself per se. If Onaga is gone, I'd like to see Reptile develop a new storyline that doesn't involve him being a lacky to someone, or pathetically searching for someone to serve. That really took him down a few points in my mind. I'd like to see a plot with Khameleon, as has been mentioned. As for his looks, well, I think that we should see something more human, maybe with reptilian features (green snake eyes on a human face, thin snake-like fangs instead of teeth. Those are two examples), but that's just my opinion. Obviously green will be a theme color with him, but I'd rather they didn't make him a ninja again. Too many ninjas even with Ermac's highly cool makeover. Either way, I don't think he's in a position where he needs to be "salvaged" as he was never deeply flawed to begin with and his story hasn't become stale because he was just changed into the DK recently. Regardless, I think that he has potential and, throughout most of the series (when he's been himself), he's been vastly underated. Make him more than a lacky.
Hsu Hao: Oh man did I hate this character. Yeah, I liked the clap, though it looked odd. I also liked his weapons, though they didn't suit him AT ALL. I just wonder why they give him that heart issue. Is he supposed to be the Astaroth of MK? Strange. Regardless, he was a lacky, and not a very exciting one at that. If the MK team is to bring him back, they'd need to seperate him from the Black Dragon/Red Dragon conflict. He'd need a drastically altered look (less communist army and more butcher perhaps?) Either way, I think that he'd be one of the most difficult characters to bring back. He was reviled by so many MK fans for having no story, nothing interesting as far as moves went, and a look that screamed "lost member of the Village People." Get rid of the heart issue. Turn him into a mercenary type. I'd like to see what would happen if they crossed this guy with something more Russian. Just a thought. Man, if the MK team could make this guy likeable to many, it'd be a minor miracle. Still, He's got a decent foundation with which to build on. I don't want to see the Red Dragon appear and die all in on game. If not Hsu Hao or even Mavado, I think that we should see someone from the Red Dragon. Perhaps an even higher up member we didn't know about before?
Mavado: I don't have any real attachment to Mavado, as his story was kind of plain and his moves were, to me, nothing less than a complete let down. When Boon described what Mavado was capable of in an interview before MK:DA's release, I had images in my mind of this guy that used grappling hooks to go all over the arena and do amazing (and really fun) things to his opponents.
