I know this is very unlikely, but what if NRS decided to go wayyyy back to old school basics. Think of the possibilities!

- 2D Fighting Plane
- Digitized Sprites (giving characters an ultra realistic look)
- Classic Move Inputs (ex: D, F + LP = Sub-Zero's freeze)
- Classic Button Layout (HP, LP, HK, LK, run) - UMK3 style of play
- Steve Ritchie as the announcer

AND then added -

- Old school characters with multiple classic alternate costumes and a new design
- A few new, innovative characters
- Enhanced arenas with better graphics
- New, gory fatalities (no cartoony MK3 crap!)

I feel THIS would be a blast to the past! Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love MK9 and they are doing the right thing by changing the gameplay mechanics a bit and adding all these new features (They do have to compete with modern fighting games!). BUT, with all of these new features and enhancements going on in the new game, there is something that seems lost. Something that really made me feel connected to the original classics MKs.

I feel the digitized sprites added more realism to the game and that the classic sounds (whether it be the announcer, powerful uppercut noises or character screams and shrieks) would ultimately make a new MK game feel OLD SCHOOL.

I know some people reading this are probably thinking - "Why would they just rehash the classics?". I'm not saying they should remake MK-UMK3 with a fresh coat of paint ,but rather make a whole new MK with the classic attributes and gameplay. A good mixture of new arenas, new characters, and new music along with old school characters, arenas, and music would really HIT the spot for nostalgic purposes In addition, they shoudl stray away from the Earthrealm feel and go back to the dark and gritty outworld. I think MK really lost it's "magic" and "atmosphere" after MK2 Anyone agree?

Going back to the old school.

It works for Mega Man.

Not so much for MK.

They could do it, sure.

Would it be worth it?

Nah.

So what's going on with that "Mortal Kombat HD collection"? Wasn't it supposed to have remade digitized sprites from a new set of actors and all that? Was that all just a rumor?

Honestly, I've wanted this for a while. Some people say that using digitized actors is cheesy. I say screw em. I don't mind Anime every once in a while, but frankly, Digitized Actors of MK > Anime Sprites of Street Fighter. My opinion, of course.

I'd support something like this, just out of sheer curiosity as to what it would look like.

No, it was being worked on. At least one person has confirmed that they were shooting footage with new actors.

We just don't know what happened with it.
