I'm an artist that has been commissioned to do some Klassic Mortal Kombat pieces, one of which is Chameleon.

The problem is we can't decide how to interpret him in 3D. We are using the Mortal Kombat Trilogy version of the ninjas for consistency, but searching for references brings up different interpretations.

Since we can't replicate how he actually looked in the game -- which seems to be a transparent gray palette swap that blinked into the other ninjas' colors -- we might have to settle on what the MK community considers correct.

So if you were a Mortal Kombat fan looking to buy Chameleon merch, would that be cool, or would he look a little too...Fabulous? We can replicate that shiny rainbow look pretty dead on, but would MK fans still read that as Chameleon, or would it look too silly?

Another option is to try make it look more like the game sprite, so we could do a gray base that also changes color in the light. But would that read more as Noob or Smoke?

Finally, what color do you think his skin tone should be? Flesh tone like the other ninjas, or more grayish like the game itself?

I guess what it comes down to is, do we make him look like he does in those early appearances, or do we make him look like Mortal Kombat fans' perception of what he looked like, based on fan art and such?
