I was recently reading a new book I just bought about Runes, and it includes a short background into Norse mythology. That's when I noticed that the 'chaos vs order' battle has been a war waged for a lot longer than some may imagine.
The rune Dagaz seems to be associated with rival gods of order and chaos; Heimdall and Loki (much like Hotaru and Havik)
and I quote:
"The guardian of Asgard and the rainbow bridge that led to it was the ever-watchful Heimdall, himself a result of the union of Odin with nine sea giantesses, known as the wave maidens." (Although not benevolent, this reminds me somewhat of how Hotaru watched over the city Lei Chen.)
"[T]here is one god who is something of an anomaly: the treacherous Loki, born of the race of giants and the hated rival of Heimdall. Loki personifies wild, uncontrollable fire, in contrast to his enemy, Heimdall, who symbolises a torch or beacon, a friend to humankind. Nevertheless, Loki was blood brother to Odin, and his mischief was tolerated because of that kinship." (Havik is definitely wild and uncontrollable, the analogy for chaos being fire/water seems to resonate also, and is most definitely Hotaru's opposite.)
Thoughts, comments, questions?

The concept of order vs. chaos is common to many cultures all over the world.

The whole Order VS Chaos concept can be found in numerous mythologies, not just the Norse Mythos. I wouldn't read too much into it.
Haha, it's nothing extraordinary for a Mortal Kombat fan to connect regular matters in literature to their favorite fighting game series. Regardless you don't have to read Norse mythology to realize that the opposite of order is chaos, the opposite of good is evil, the opposite of up is down et cetera.

I know that, i just was wondering if that could have been their inspiration (either specifically the Norse myths ar the many myths worldwide).
Still i find it an unusual coincidence, no?

No. It's not unusual.
