I can see why people didn't like it at first. But this was the first fighting game I actually got good at. It just all clicked for me one day, and I really loved it. I'm burnt out now and the flaws have really shown through but still a ton of fun.

MK Deception time.

Likes- The opening cutscene. I like the gameplay changes like the throw button and the breakers. Konquest mode was pretty damn good. It was just really fun to have this open world to run around in to collect coins, fight, and look for secrets. Two fatalities plus hara kiris was a much needed improvement. It was the first game to go online. Chess kombat was cool.

Dislikes- The worst roster in the history of MK. Some of the characters had interesting stories like Ashrah, but she looks stupid so who cares. The game was more reminiscent of Soul Calibur than MK. The story sucked. I don't care about Shujinko. I care about Scorpion, and Sub-zero. Three fighting styles is still too many. The death traps where cool, but I don't like how they could change the fight.Puzzle Kombat was a waste of energy. Weapons in the middle of stages was kind of dumb too.

Verdict: Lots of content, good gameplay, but everything else sucked. 7.9/10.

I felt Deception was the closest contender to MK2 for me. I'll forever miss the animated sprites but after really enjoying DA this game made up where that game lacked with thing's like going back to two fatalities.

I really wish they would do another Story Mode like Deception had. It was extensive and stood as an interesting story on it's own. Even if Shujinko was blander than others.

As far as MK games go 9/10

MK: Deception

This game is flat out the worst main entry in the series.

1. The gameplay is slower and more broken than Deadly Alliance.
- No new gameplay elements. The uppercut doesn't really count because it was just another pop up attack.

- The MK team didn't add any new features to the gameplay, other than the breakers.

- New characters had cut and paste fighting styles of charcters from Deadly Alliance.

2. The storyline was horrible.

- Order and Chaos Realm are two of the most pointless , non important plots in the game, since both have nothing to do with the main plot. Chaos and Order Realm are in Civil war with one another, pretty much. This includes the characters. All the characters that came from those two places were lame.

Konquest -

Konquest wasn't any good. We were forced to play konquest to unlock near half the game with Shujinkko, a character new knew nothing about nor cared for. Also, it would have been impossible without a guide or the internet for someone to figure out to go to section (B-4) on Wednesday at 4:30 for a hidden box to appear to unlock character x. Stuff like that is a bad idea.

3. MK: Deception - The first rehash without a good reason .

- More than half of the game is a rehash of past MK games. A good amount of stages are back, many of them without a good reason. For example Shang Tsung court room, with Tsung sitting a chair as he did in MK1. How is Tsung sitting the chair considering that he just died. In past games such as MK2, MK4 brought back only 1 or 2 stages from past games, MK: Deception brings back near half.

4 - MK: Deception - not a real MK / Fighting game , but more of a "party game"

- Up until Deception, MK has been pretty much a fighting game that focused on improving itself from the last game. MK: Deception is the first and only MK game not to NOT improve itself from the previous game. Instead it adding a bunch of usless stuff that the game DIDN"T NEED , such as puzzle, GTA , Konquest, and chess mode. The MK team focused their energy on stuff that they didn't need.

If only the MK team focused out what was really important, instead of adding all that fluff to MK: Deception.

2 out of 10

A massive let down from a long time MK fan.
