Make character creation good, choose a class, then a look, choose color, and choose from the gear any of the characters had some thing like this. This includes every costume. And add some MROE NEW parts while keeping the feel of MK.
As for gameplay, make it like Phantasy Star here's a good gamplay vid

Classes:
-Ninja (good speed, high power, okay health)
-Assassin (female ninjas)(high speed, decent pwoer, good health
-Cyborgs (okay speed, high power, good health)
-Tarkatans (good speed, high power, okay health)
-Edenians (good speed, okay power, high health)
-Outworld(er)-(low speed, great power, good health)
-Saurian-(high speed, okay power, high health)
-Elder God (good speed, good power, good health)

Loose the class idea, define rather martial arts.

Levels and classes are vestigial remnants of paper and pen RP Games. It should be avoided.
