I've been watching the Mortal Kombat Legacy episodes with both clans feuding with Bi-Han and Hanzo and remembering the flashback Quan Chi shows Scorpion of his clan and family getting killed by Sub-Zero. The fashions look from a different period of the clan's histories in time.
It kind made me wonder, do the clans tend to live in a style like that of the Amish or a religious community? It seems they tend to wear styles from a certain time period and seem isolated from the rest of the world despite the missions they do in various areas.
I could be wrong, but has anyone thought of that?

Legacy's ninja stuff is literally set in the ancient past and some of the competitors like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Kenshi actually travel through time to get to the tournament. It's pretty retarded.
In the games' canon, the Lin Kuei live a lot like the League of Shadows in Batman Begins.
We haven't seen daily life in the Shirai Ryu, but we know they don't live in a secret hidden base like the Lin Kuei do, they have a farming village in rural Japan. So...look up what farms in Japan look like I suppose.
The uniforms are tradition, but that doesn't mean they don't use technology. I mean, look at the cyberninjas. Sektor and Cyrax were using modern weapons when they were human too according to MK9. And in the MK2 comic book, Sub-Zero and Smoke used a VTOL jet to get around.

I took a look at some Japanese farming villages like you said Razor, interesting.
I stopped watching Legacy after Kung Lao tried to get Liu Kang out of a drunken stupor. Not even Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa could've saved it. I liked the first season with Sonya, Kano and Jax etc..
I remember the MK 2 comic too and remembered Sub-Zero telling Liu Kang and Kung Lao his brother was too out of touch to use technology and he was so willing to use it until MK 3 happened and got out. Now with Rayden's derp time travel decisions, he's a walking undead zombie ice maker.
