I've been a huge Mortal Kombat fan for a while now and one thing that I really like is the mythology and story behind it, I was just thinking about this the other day and I find it kind of funny how I didn't catch on to it before.

The idea just occured to me seeing as how Mortal Kombat has different realms and such and there's portals and what not. Why is the identity of places such as Outworld, Netherealm, Edenia, and the other two bullshit realms not known to the whole population of Earthrealm. On one side you have Outworld where there's four armed beasts and mutants with blades just waiting on the order of this huge jacked Skull Mask wearing guy in a man thong to go in and rape the shit out of poor average people like you and me, yet the only ones that are aware of it is like a hand full of people.

To top that off, government officials ignore characters like Sonya and Jax to mount a defense of these possible threats and what happens, the whole place gets turned into hell only to be returned to normal and people's minds are warped into believing it never happened. Now why is it that the Elder Gods do that shit when all the other realms are aware of each other, I find that puzzling, and to top it off Johnny Cage is laughing his ass off and making bank as he makes movies about these places that people look at as entertainment meanwhile in this fictional world it's as real as it can be to them.

That's an interesting thought. Why would Earthrealm not know about other realms?

Perhaps it is Cage's fault? His movies came out before Sonya and Jax proposed their OIA idea. Maybe the government thought that Sonya and Jax talked about movie stuff being real, they couldn't believe it.

Also, think about it. If someone came to you talking about four-armed monsters and the such to you, would you believe it right away?

But then, I guess, after the events of MK3, they should have known about all of this stuff.

I guess I don't know. Maybe the majority of Earthrealm are purposely oblivious to this. Maybe they think that yeah, this happened, but now it is over, it'll never happen again.

Why do some people believe in ghosts and others don't? Why do some people believe in god and others don't? Simply put, individuals believe what they want to believe, and on a larger, masses type scale, the masses believe what they are told to believe.

In the MK world, the people of earth don't believe Shao Kahn is real because they've never seen him, or touched him so he doesn't exist.

In MK3, Shao stripped the planet of life, trapping the souls of the unchosen Earthers in some limbo state, while the chosen fought for the freedom of earth. When Kahn was defeated, Earth was spared and so were those trapped souls (at least most of them) and life continued on as normal.

The masses had no connection with outworld. For all we know, they might all have had some crazy dream or vision while in limbo, and there was a mass religous revival after Kahn's invasion.

Who knows how Jax and Sonya conviced the government to create the OIA, but they did. Maybe because some others in the government were spared similar to how Nightwolf did his thing. Eh, who knows.

Anyway, people are sheep, following the flow of the flock and its leader. It looks stupid when you look at it objectively but it is the nature of people. If I'm wrong I'm wrong, but that's just how I see it.

To be fair, that handful of people are all we're ever exposed to in the series. It's entirely possible that the day to day types in MK's world are well aware of the other realms.

Said Officials may not be what they seem.

the whole place gets turned into hell only to be returned to normal and people's minds are warped into believing it never happened.

There have been other-realm encounters post MK3, though.

People in the real world make movies about horrible events all the time.
