Reptile eating my head off in MK2
That and after I played the game no matter what no other fighting game really did it for me. I always had a craving to see a character like Baraka or Scorpion.

There was enough hooplah at the time that the first game was very widely known. The Bruce Lee/Enter the Dragon overtones made it easy to take notice and be interested straight away, something my father got into, too.
I was also really into Double Dragon and then Street Fighter II, so the gateway to beat 'em up gaming was already very much in place.

MKII and the introduction of new characters like Baraka really cemented my interest.

My uncle was playing MK3 on my SNES. I distinctly remember the Sub-Zero fatality. MK2, along with DK Country, Super Mario Kart, the 2D Mario games and Madden 96 defined my childhood.
It's a storied history for me actually. Multiple things got me into this game as well as brought me right back out. But since the latter isn't a topic here's the former:

1.Older Cousin Playing Mortal Kombat and Hearing about Goro and what he was.
2.My other cousins (I have a lot of them) had the N64 edition of MK: Trilogy
3.First time I met my step-brother he had a Playstation and MK3.Awesome.
4.Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance
5.Mortal Kombat Rebirth; This was before the E3 trailer of MK9
6.Mortal kombat 2011's gameplay videos

I was a dumb kid. I almost paid to see Batman & Robin and Mortal Kombat Annihilation because I heard (never saw) how awesome they were going to be. Dodged those bullets! grin

I have a traditional route, I played MK1 a few times as a young kid in the arcades and was already becoming hooked. I could just watch other people play and be well entertained. Spine rip = O_O
