We got too headings up here tonight. I'm gonna break down a sequence of events that I had with KrazyJoker yesterday evening.
The topic of the thread is really about what constitutes a good game, but I also need to apologize to Joker.
So I was fiddling about with Sindel today for about 5minutes. Joker challenges me and selects his Ermac. Now Joker mains Ermac, so I got slaughtered repeatedly. It happens. Next up I switch over to Baraka against his Jax and played beautifully solid combos, nice cancels, the mix ups. I had a really nice match. Then I went back to Kabal and did OK, but kept messing up combos.
So we get back to lobby and he tosses a good game my way, to which I replied, not really.
What I meant was that it wasn't my idea of a good game, I felt that it wasn't competitive and that I was very sloppy with my kabal. He played just fine. I was a little on edge because he caught me right before work and I was closing myself for the first time. I coulda handled that better, but...
So, sorry bro. Not my finest moment.
Now, to me a good game is a game where both players are on an even field and execute to perfection. Doing the right counters and combos at the right times and such. So a close and very technically sound match. Thats a good match for me. I didnt feel like I had that vs Joker today. My only good fight was Baraka v Jax, and I think his Jax is still in the lab.
So it wasn't a lack of respect, but rather that games we played didn't match my personal criteria for a good match.
What do you all think makes a good match, not just one where you say it for sportsmenship sake, Im talking about the magical rare matches that we all play fighting games for. Whats ya'lls take on it?

Well, I think a good match is an exciting match.
For example, I played against a very good player yesterday and we started with our mains and played a couple of good matches, but none were really close like down to the wire. Most of them were 3 rounds matches, but the final round was never that close. Still, those were "good games" nonetheless.
However, then we started playing with our "work in progress" characters and that's when my favorite match happened. I played with Sheeva and I messed up a few combos and did some stupid/random ground pounds which cost me in the end. It was a 3 rounds match which my opponent won with cca. 2% life left and I think the entire building could hear my scream at the end when I received the final hit. It was just SO EXCITING! True, it wasn't technically a clean match, but it was just fun! I call that too a "good game", because it felt good, even though I lost. I was happy that I played that close and exciting match.
So for me, it's not just about having "technically clean matches" it's also about how close and exciting they are. Even with my "w.i.p." characters, I still have a plan and some kind of basic strategy, so it's never really scrubby enough to say "this wasn't a good game".
I guess you're just more demanding (on that technical aspect) when it comes to calling the game a good game.

in my opinion it's more of a respect thing, if both players fight according to the ''rules'' y'know a fair match, I call it a good game... if someone plays hella better then me and I apreciate a skill, I toss one too.... in my view it's more inregards how the other player plays...

I say good games, to show respect for the other fighter, it doesnt necessarily mean that it has to be close or has to be the right counters or whatever. The other player out plays the other player, doesnt mean it wasnt a good game. but i understand the sindel fights, but i'm still working on Ermac so i still had to use him. And it's all good dude, once your solid with your sindel, you can seek out revenge
For me its just about having fun.
If I'm having fun against someone and the match is challenging yet not impossible or stupid (spammers), than, that's a good fight, no matter how bad I am.
I don't really care if I'm doing "my best" or reaching my characters "full potential" as long as I feel excited, happy, and obviously not repeating the same projectile/special move over and over again.
If my opponent is super tough and a high level player, its an exciting match for just 1 round. That's it. He/she can show me tons of talent, but, if I'm really not landing more than 2 hits at a time, what's the point?
I rarely play online, almost never, and I never really send/get messages from anyone (I'm such a noob to all of that), so, its all down to finding someone in my level who makes the fight challenging but not impossible (even if I keep loosing).
That's a good fight for me.
High level gamers might expect a lot more, but, because I'm really not a high level player, my fun is quite different from their fun.
And it still rocks.

I dont think Im going to pursue her for the time being. Im enjoying Baraka. I had just played a sindel that was magnificient with half screen mix ups, but against Ermac its scary to let fireballs rip. I just couldnt answer with anything with her. Im putting that project on hold. Baraka is the dude for now.

No, he's saying because he was off his game that it wasn't a good game meaning he was frustrated with his own performance and didn't mean to come across as discrediting the other player (Joker in this case).

I didnt lose all of them.
I know exactly what you mean.
I agree w/ Queve that fun is paramount,
but I have to add that I tend to have the most fun
when fighting against someone who is on a *very* similar skill level.
When you win as much as you lose,
and both health bars are *always* low,
sometimes maddeningly so
I had some of these fun matches against LeoBrz81
the day the game came out,
but I'm sure he would lay me to waste now.
So I more or less agree-
a good game is one with a very even, close match.

I had a good fight! A Really good one and I get sent SALT.
Ok, he picks Liu Kang. I feel that Kano is a great counter, as if he tries to rush me down I can upball fuck him. It was a very close match, it goes to 3 rounds and we both have 10% health and he wins with a bicycle kick. I send "Great Game man!" And he sends
"Fuck u u spam".
Are you fucking shitting me? Like what the fuck.. It was a good game. I did combos and he did combos. I don't see why I deserved that salt. We both did good and it can backfire in your face. D: I don't understand it.
