I originally posted this is the MK 2011 forum, but I didn't notice the strategy zone, so I think this post should be here. I've begun writing a strategy guide for the new MK; for now it is based on the demo. Once the full game is released, I will update all of the information in this guide after retesting everything. To gain access to the new document click the following link:
Guide
On the left side of the screen there will be a word doc. Save it to your desktop, and rename it as a .txt file instead of .doc to view in notepad.
Hopefully GameFAQs will quickly turnaround the newly submitted document, that way I can just provide a link to there.
The format is way cleaner, I've added a table of contents with search ability, as well as updated Scorpion's strategy section, and overhauled all of Mileena's combos.
I'm continuing to refine the combos for all of the characters, and after the next update I will be HD capturing them and posting them on YouTube. I will embed the links in the strategy guide, so that you can quickly access the videos for the combos you are reading.
Additionally, I've started gathering frame date, but that may take a bit longer to get it all together.
Currently, I have a new batch of combos for Scorpion and Cage, which are almost finished, but I haven't really been working on Sub-Zero, so any info, combos, strategies for him would be greatly appreciated.
Let me know what you all think, and I'll refine the guide and keep it up-to-date!
Thanks.

ehhh, I wouldn't take the time to count the frames for the demo considering things might change. I think the official strategy guide will have the frame data anyways.
But besides that if you're writing a guide for the fans and submit it to GameFaqs, that is definitely helpful. Nice job man

No strategy guide in the history of forever has ever had frame data. It's foolish to expect it now.

Thanks all. Yeah, the frame data is tedious, but it gives me a reason to obsess over something, so it's fun for me
Combo wise, you can pull some truly insane stuff, but it either requires:
A wall
Super Meter
or is difficult to get the spacing/timing consistently
So for the guide, I was trying to focus more on realistic combos that could be consistently executed in a match regardless of screen positioning, etc.
Because of this, I was thinking of changing the combo layout to the following:
Opener: Spear
Follow Ups: JP-Popup,Dash,B+2,JK,Teleport,JK,Teleport,JK,Air-Throw
And then give the total hits, combo damage, and variations on the combo. And do that for combo openers that happen often in matches.
Also, maybe include followups for unsafe blocked attacks, such as Mileena's Ball Roll, Cage's Shadow Kick, etc.
What do you think?

No old strategy guide, but in the modern age where competitive fighters are becoming more and more popular, guides are improving. The MvC3 strategy guide had all the frame data of every character. It had the frame data, and I'm expecting MK's strategy guide to have it as well. It's being made by the same people I think.

I haven't touched any part of MvC3, so that guide having frame data is news to me. I still love how MvC3 is getting passed off as some kind of balanced, competitive fighting game.

MvC3 is kind of crazy--I really like playing with friends in a casual setting, but if we really studied it and hardcore played to win, I'm pretty sure the imbalance would show.
I was at PAX, and there were people just abusing all kinds of things. It takes some skill to pull it off, but balanced, I'm not so sure.
I just checked MvC3's guide and it does have frame data, but I'm going to gather it for MK anyway--maybe there will be changes that we can see from the demo to the final version.

yeah MvC3 is fun, but I played it for two weeks straight and am completely burnt out. The game is fun, but now with these ridiculous strings I've lost interest. C. America has the most ridiculous infinite I've ever seen in the vs. Series

Can someone tell me specifically WHEN and how I can land combos after Cage's X-ray? I've seen the videos but I can't seem to hit with anything after it other than the Shadow Kick as they crumple too fast. Or do I just suck that bad?? lol.

As soon as the X-Ray ends, perform Cage's B+3 move. (Pop-up) From there dash and put together the combo.
If you have trouble getting the B+3 connecting, try this to get the timing.
When the X-Ray starts, hold back on the d-pad/stick. Then begin hitting 3 (X on Playstation controller) like a mad man. Just smash it as fast as you can while holding back. Within a couple tries, it should hit, which will give you an idea of how to time it.
Hope that helps!

3 would be circle on the PS3 controller meh thinks. I always hated the 1,2,3,4 notations, rather we use FP, BP, FK, BK considering you can change the button layout.

3 is X, actually.
1 is square. 2 is triangle. 3 is X. 4 is circle.
I also don't think this notation works for MK and think it's important we use the Fx/Bx notation instead.

Thanks for the tip. I will give it a shot later. I still use the 1,2,3,4 because I haven't played the game enough to automatically be accustomed to the new terms, lol. Sorry.

Great point about being able to change the button layout. I'll start thinking of a way to change it in the guide. Thanks for the feedback

Game balance does not make a great fighting game, playability does. Seriously, fuck game balance. It's probably one of the least important factor in making a great game. Also balance is isn't even one of the major problems of mvc3. There are much bigger problems about that game. The game is actually somewhat balance in that almost every character is broken, and for a 3v3, that is really spectacular.

The only problem I have with their new config (and the old school config with HP,LP,HK,LK too) is that when I look at people posting combos using the correct terms it's just a blur of letters lol.
Sub-Zero Combo Example:
B+FP, BP, Freeze, JP-Pop-up, B+FP, BP, BP, FP, BK, Slide.
That is a whole lotta F's, B's, P's, and K's. LOL. More if you write out the specials.
The numbers were stupid as hell but easier on the eyes. lol. I'll get used to it again though eventually.

It's not possible in the demo.

I'm hoping the official strategy guide is similar to the old MK3/UMK3/MKT guide. I found it extremely helpful with listing every characters strengths and weaknesses, and how to exploit them. It help me to be really good, and I'm hoping to be just as good in the new game as I was in UMK3.

That stage Fatality is not part of the demo, but by the looks of it, when the game comes out, you will have to be near the certain tree that eats your opponent, pretty sure only one of them will eat you in the game.
