posted05/29/2011 12:39 AM (UTC)byStarfire1020So there i was.....
Eye of the tiger, the final countdown, and other 80s workout montage hits were blaring from my headphones.Have my SSF4 special edition headband, gym shorts and my sports bra. Its time to practice.
Testyourmight forums were open on my trusty laptop. I am ready to learn some difficult big damage 10 hit+ combos. After learning most of the combos for Scorpion, liu kang, kung lao, and sub zero (working my way down the screen just like every fighting game i played ever.)
I get to sindel and nail her combos consitently in practice (which were the hardest ones so far). And i decide its time to go online and.......Test my luck(might?,strike???)
Seriously, it's rage-inducing after spending hours in practice learning complex, Tight timing window combos.....and not being able to PULL.ONE.OFF. and losing to projectile spamming, 3 hit combo players, that while im not the greatest player in the world (not even close) i feel i shouldn't have to dumb my game down to win because of the lag.
Now i heard they are working on it....but is it anywhere near being better?

So fucking true. I actually lost against a total fucking noob when, I have at least seven 40% damage plus combos with both my mains.( I never drop any of these EVER offline ) Get into a match with certain people with a full half second or worse delay. My counter game turned into getting slapped in the face by 1 hits and spammed projectiles.
I fucking screamed WTF? Jump straight up in neutral and pause 4 times in the air, Errrr.....

You play games in a sportsbra?
You'll make someone a fine wife.
Oh yea, lag. It's bad and whatnot.

not really....but yea that was for dramatic effect to the story lol
WORD. The lag online is fucking killing me. I lose to players who just jump kick/spam anything they can. I mean, I have 40+ combos with my mains too, cyrax/quan chi/kitana/reptile, but can only rarely pull them off because of the timing with the fucking lag going on. The block delay because of the lag = loss for me.

I only played online for a bit before PSN went down, but what I did play didn't seem so bad. Maybe I was just bad.

My sad online story:
I HAVE A PLAYSTATION SO I HAVE NO FUCKIN ONLINE!
the end,
I HAVE A PLAYSTATION SO I HAVE NO FUCKIN ONLINE!
the end,
Same story here. When it's hard to even select your character (2-3 second delay between the selection box moving, lol...) you know you're in for some mental trauma.
I'm a PSN player so I only got to play for like a day, but during that time, 75% of it was "SERVER IS NOT RESPONDING", 20% was Scorpion opponents beating me with inescapable 3-hit lag combo, and the last 5% was somewhat playable-ness... during which point I miraculously pulled off the second combo in this video against someone: Video.
Two weeks later and I'm still waiting for PSN to crawl back from the dead.

Same here, the amount of lag online really fucking sucks when I try to do juggles with Smoke; when I connect with the smoke bomb i'm lucky if i'm able to land that or even get the input to complete.
Normally offline I can land up to a 7 hit combo in multiple ways. Online i'm lucky if the lag allows me to do such. Feels bad man. :(

Still, i wonder if the PSN going byebye for a bit is making the online department of NRS take their time seeing as they dont even have a PS3 sample to look at.

Yea, me neither. You think that they'd get it right considering how big online is in fighting games.

Yeah, the only real way to play competitive fighters is live. Some games handle it better, and actually make it possible to play online--unfortunately, for us, MK is not playable online. Seriously, I'm not even upset about PSN being down because I'm just playing MK right now, which in my book should not be played online. I played probably like 5-6 matches before PSN went down, I won all but one, but the online was unbearable. And it wasn't one match that was bad--the best match was like worst case scenario in any other fighter. MK is by far the worst fighter online this generation. (They fixed Tekken 6, so it no longer hold the crown)

I went online with MK for the first time after practicing quite a bit with my main. After about five matches I had to stop as I couldn't put up with the ridiculous lag. Even though I won 3 out of the 5, the game just isn't playable online atm. At least I still have the challenge tower to take up my time until things get better for online play.

Well, you know how to do the combos consistently, now you just have to find a way to set them up against people which is the tough part. If you keep at it it'll come to you. Most people play different obviously and it's pretty unpredictable at times, that just means you have to make yourself unpredictable as possible as well. Do some off timing stuff, get in close and connect with a sweep and when they're down start combos, the big stuff.

Nah i'm just afraid to play a zoning game, like how you SHOULD use sindel and noob. Crappy players don't know the difference between zoning and spamming and i really don't wanna risk my reputation as a honest player :P it's a issue i have lol.
