I am a Sub-Zero only player. I know that may sound boring, but I just like playing as Sub-Zero. He's been my favorite character since I was a kid and I would just rather play with him.

Anyway online it's a little more difficult for me. I'm not going to lie. I went from winning every match, on expert, offline to getting beat bad online.lol. I'm not completely horrible, just feel I need a few tips. I can do all of his combos including the juggles, still I need tips?

1. Does Johnny Cage's shadow kick go through the ice clone, and if it does what other moves go through Ice clone?
2. Need some help with teleporters as well, what is a good way to catch them when they decide to start spamming the hell out of me with teleports?
3. Characters like Kitana? One guy just threw fans all match and if I jumped over them he used the square boost to put me back.
4. Help with Kung Lao and Reptile as well. When a Kung Lao gets going it seems like they don't stop I literally can't put enough distance between me and Kung Lao players. Reptile's send force ball after force ball to keep me in place. I jump over them, but then they catch me in dash with a combo.

I've watched some tom brady vids and seen some of his strategy and it has won me some matches, but still feel I could use a few more tips. So, feel free to give any info Sub-Zero players.

I just started online a week ago so keep in mind I'm still very new to this online as well.

I believe only the EX-Version does. Can't say that's true across the board, but I'd use that as a rule of thumb.

Block cancel your dashes. Doing this will cause scrubby spammers to do two things. If they teleport, you'll be able to punish their blocked teleport attacks. If you get close enough, they'll either jump towards you (if that happens, anti-air them with 2,2, ice ball), or they'll jump backwards (if that happens, catch their back jump with an enhanced Ice Beam).

If they don't do either of those things, they're probably seasoned players who are too smart to throw out random tele-punches. However, if it was specifically MILEENA you were referring to... sorry dude. Countering her teleport game is really it's own thread. I'll let a more informed user cover that issue.

Against Kung Lao: Set up ice clones to shut down his dive kick mix-up. After that, he's either going to throw projectiles or teleport. Honestly, I wouldn't block more than one hat throw. Reason being is that the time window of his recovery plus your block stun is longer than you think. You'd be damn surprised what that fucker can do in that amount of time regarding setups. Once your able to read out a hat throw, I would personally forward jump and ice clone once you hit the ground. If he persists, then you really don't have much of a choice but to go with your own rushdown game. Thankfully, Sub has a decent one.

But if he teleports, your in luck. Sub's 2,2, ice ball combo is a solid punish. Bait the teleports, and mess up his face. And don't forget about the Enhanced Ice Beam. That's how Sub deals other people's air traffic.

Against Reptile: Force ball, eh? How close is the Reptile to your Sub? If he's mid-screen, and you read out a force ball, you should be able to punish with a jump-in combo... I think. Does anyone know what the hitbox looks like for Rep's force ball? Anyhoo, If he's further away, use your own projectile pressure. If he's block your ice, he won't be able to shoulder charge. Pretty soon Sub-Zero's EX-Slide will have armor, so I'd use that as one possible counter.

Ice Clones shut down a lot of Reptile's other shit. If he decides he's sick of your zoning and wants to chip you out with his acid spit, I would dash cancel forward until your right outside of mid-screen distance. If he shoulder charges, it should wiff; try to ice clone on reaction since he'll most likely try to cross you up. If he doesn't shoulder charge, I would proceed with rushdown tactics. Remember not to throw ice balls if he has full X-Ray.

I've caught him in ice clones. Since I haven't fought all of the entire roster, I can't tell you exactly who is capable of avoiding the ice clone. And no, Sonya's arc kick gets frozen as well in case anyone thinks she's capable of being frozen free.

Duck blocking then uppercut. Goes for any character who gets caught in a telespam.

If you can land, immediately do the slide move. If you can't slide, then jump back and ice clone in mid air to avoid getting hit with the fans. The opponent will obviously think you'll just jump towards them to avoid the projectile and that's what you got fooled into. Jump back and ice clone.

Haven't really played against these two characters, so I can't help you in this situation.

Basically, block cancelling is when you do a standard dash (forward forward) but you cancel your dash with block before the dash animation expires. The result is that you get closer to your opponent in a safer fashion.

Regular dash cancelling is when you do a dash to cancel the animation your in. For example, if you charge Smoke's or Sub's X-Ray by holding down the buttons, you can actually dash out of the animation if you decide doing the X-Ray would be a bad idea. People say dash cancelling occurs when you dash after chain combos, but to me, it always looks like the dash comes out after the chain fully finishes. It's more like "buffering" the dash.

Thanks I'll have to practice some of these. I'm pretty sure you would have to be really fast with your dashes though wouldn't you?

Like the x-ray example.

Also are you an x-box player? Do you use the stick or the dpad?

Nah, I wouldn't say so. It just takes some getting use to. Here's one video for a reference point if you need it.

I use an xbox Madcatz TE FightStick.

Using a 360 pad won't be quite as good, but I used it for two months, so it is possible.

Depends. I used the D-Pad strictly forward, forward/back, back inputs. I used the analog for everything else.

If you want, my tag on Xbox is Otter of Death. I can demonstrate my own Sub-Zero some time if you want. I could even do a match now if you want, but it would literally have to be in the next ten minutes. I'm free tomorrow evening, though.

Okay, help again. Raiden. I have him trapped behind ice clone. Then I start the 2,2, but he just teleports and owns me. Need help there as well. Some of them can be spammers as well. They just teleport around you and hit the stupid charge that raiden has.lol

Hey temporary user name I'll take you up on that offer. I could use some real training hear and there to buff up on him. Don't judge me though, like I said I'm still new at this.lol

For that, I usually ice clone and walk in front of it. When they teleport they either get hit by the ice clone or really close to it. Once you see that flash, try to put in the slide. I usually ice clone right away just incase and if he trys teleporting again, keep jumping.

lol, that's cool. I'm not that amazing myself. That said, I've spent a lot of time with Sub, and although I haven't mastered him by any means, I feel I've finally gotten into a groove with the character. EDIT: I'll most likely be on around 9:00pm Central.

1. Does Johnny Cage's shadow kick go through the ice clone, and if it does what other moves go through Ice clone?

It does if it is performed on wake up, or enhanced.

2. Need some help with teleporters as well, what is a good way to catch them when they decide to start spamming the hell out of me with teleports?

Standard-Block and counter with full combo.
Mileena-Block and counter with uppercut (Crouches under follow up sai).
Passive-Jump backwards on reaction with a jump kick.

3. Characters like Kitana? One guy just threw fans all match and if I jumped over them he used the square boost to put me back.
Duck under them, time trades with ice ball and full combo.

4. Help with Kung Lao and Reptile as well. When a Kung Lao gets going it seems like they don't stop I literally can't put enough distance between me and Kung Lao players. Reptile's send force ball after force ball to keep me in place. I jump over them, but then they catch me in dash with a combo.

Stop trying to keep Lao off you, bring the fight to him. Make him deal with your shit rather than you dealing with his. Same with Reptile.

Most sub-zero players try to turtle and counter everything. Need aggression.

Hey, I'm also a strictly Sub player except for Noob once in a while. But I had the exact same issues with offline vs online. Some tips for you:

Kung Lao and Raiden. I always make sure online to play it low. Like almost the whole match. With playing low you can instantly block the spammed low hats and when KL teleports, D4 like a mutha, it will knock him back far enough to get an ice clone out and force him to teleport again or throw hats. Inbetween all of that, when you can throw iceball and freeze his ass for a combo. Once he's free, go back to fighting low. Most KL players are so overconfident that they can't help to try and jump in on you either getting repeatedly kicked in the shins and knocked away and then the typically will try to dive kick, but again, once they're back, ice clone and then they're screwed for a combo. Once they respect that you're not falling jumping in on them, they usually don't know what to do and start making really big mistakes. Be mindful of that as KL's JIP is also a low starter. So blocking low will get you whipped by a JIP combo.

Raiden, it's the same game almost. These people that spam his teleport throw and teleport sweep get knocked away enough to throw up a clone. In some instances with Raiden online, be careful that he doesn't superman into you while you are D4ing your brains out.
