Cool video man.

Even when i don't play at the same level as you do, i feel the same in some ways. Before this game came out i really just played in a very very casual way. With this game i learned about the mecanics, i know what frames are, what frame traps are, about cancels, about recovery, and lots of basic and more complicated stuff. I'm by no means a hardcore player nor i think i'll ever be, but i see a change on the way i play and i see it in the comunity too, i think it's a great thing for the comunity and for MK in general.

I liked it a lot, great video, this game has truly done this for me as well and it's nice to see so many people having such similar experiences. I was a total noobie player prior to this game, I loved MK, mostly played for story though I've most just learned the basics when I played and didn't bother with anything else, but I really took it upon myself to learn the game, the meter management, the tricks, resets etc. It took a great, competitive MK game to finally do that for me. I used to play MK games for like a month or two, but now I'm playing this one to this very day with only a couple of day breaks, continuing to learn new tricks and strats with Stryker, Jade, Sonya, Sheeva, Rain.

Tiers will never be the reason why I pick a character, I think that it's important to always use who you like best, I'm like you in the sense that I will support my "fan boy" character(s) such as Stryker and Jade despite them not being as high tier wise. If I ever go to a tournament I will be maining Stryker.

Congrats at doing well at those tournaments, I really wish Michigan had a competitive scene somewhere, I don't have the money or time off from school to travel to New York or other areas so that would have bee amazingly helpful. The comp online for the most part isn't really there nor the friendly play.

I'm happy to say that MK fans now get the full package deal: Great gameplay and a legit story mode, which should be the gold standard for ever series, fighting game or otherwisesmile

Finally watched the vidja. Good stuff said there. I agreed with everything you said. I'm still not happy with the gameplay because their are some crystal clear imbalances that need fixed in my opinion.

However the community needs to treat each other better, and that's the bottom line. Period.

Great video Casselman!

This game has had a very similar effect on me. Before, I would just go for the highest damaging combo with every character never even realizing how much more there is to a fighting game.

With this game I discovered a whole new world, the tournament scene world, and fell in love with it. Even though I'm more of a casual player, I love watching those beasts take on each other and I've learned so much from watching all the tournament streams/recorded footage.

I used to be very interested in the story aspect of MK, but after this game there's hardly any passion for the story aspect left within me. Except for Kitana's, I haven't read any character bios, and I even forgot what's written in her's and I don't care. On the other hand, I've never been so interested in all the subtle gameplay details.

Good luck in tournaments and do report about them, Strategy Zone will be interested! wink

Btw, it wouldn't let me post a comment on YT, I kept getting an error message. Maybe it has got to do with the new YT layout.

I agree with everything you said..

I have gone down that road.. Haven't been to anything close to a major, but a few tournaments and have done well with them. Great video man, much respect.

good video man. i found it to be very detailed and not boring at all. it was a bit funny when your battery died though. also nice tv. what tv was that.

if you don't mind me asking what other fighting games do you play cassel, and if so do you play those other games competitivly.

that tv in the background is a samsung. Its okay. My MK tv is in the other room. Sharp Aquos baby!

Honestly. being new to the scene. MK is the first and only game other than Tekken to get my attempted professional attention. And ive only played tekken in one tournament. T12. Actually beat out some people there just for T6 with nothing but my Tekken2 knowledge. alot of Salt.

So I have not approached anything in that light at all. I was trying to get into marvel and I bet I could be pretty good, But MK is my love and I shall ride that horse into the sunset.

On a classic note, I know I used to be one of the best at "Bloody Roar" and Tekken, back in the days of Tekken 2. Since then, not so much. T3 kinda set me off a bit. Had a second wind during T5 but it didn't last long.

Thanks for the kind words.

Great video, dude. I'm extremely curious to see what new characters you're juggling with at the moment. I feel Sektor turned out really good in this game, and even though you said you're not giving anything away yet, can you give some hints about what styles you want to branch out too? Sektor seems like this game's primary poke character (at least that's how I play him. He has offensive setups, but I go mostly for safe damage and bait-&-punishes), so are you looking for a compliment to Sektor's weak match ups, or are you wanting to rock out different playing styles?

I'm also curious as to who the assholes were in the community, but I won't inquire on that, lol. It's good that a lot of the players were cool, and I figured they would be. We finally have a strong local scene in South Texas, and even though 99% of them hate MK9, they're respectful in their disdain.

It's interesting that you say you mostly play online. That's a hot topic right now: just how good can you get playing online? Definitely something I hope you explore more in later videos.

There aren't any points I really disagree on, though there are some things I'm less optimistic about. Most likely, yes, MK10 is going to be a better game, but without knowing the reasoning behind some of MK9's few problematic design choices, it's hard to say if anything will be different next time around. Hit trades is the biggest one, but there's also the poor system of button changes, the very inadequate training mode (I'm just not sold on the "we ran out of time" excuse), the being able to rage-quit AFTER the screen says "Finish Him!" etc. All in all, unless they don't open the door to additional mistakes in the next game, I don't feel anyone has to worry about whether MK10 is going to be competitive or not.

To answer a bit:

-Crazy Magus 88 only played online up to T12 and he was in grand finals.
-I only played online up tot hen and I topped Sabin 2-0 in casuals. He won the tourney. So I would say Online is enough to train, with the right people.
-Theres not much to go into about online. Other than sheer dedication with good players and dealing with a touch of latency.

-The two holes in Sektor's game(when it comes to my play) are his up-close ability to fend off offensive forces (Liu Kang, Kabal, Jax, Kung, Sonya etc), and his lack of being able to stay ontop of somebody as much as I would like to. So I'll say this, the next phase of my game is going to expand onto two characters that help fill the voids in my main template for how to play this game.

So one heavily defensive character able to deal with pressure, allowing me to adjust and get a comfortable in defending attackers. And The other, the ability to stay on somebody in a much different way than Sektor is commonly used for or has a toolset for. I have another character I am tampering with for a "mindfuck" strategy.

Personally, I have taken everybody on the roster for a few laps, to learn the mixups and main setups. So when Sonya players crack down the military stance low pokes into the cartwheel, or when people bust out Jax's mid-low-Mid into a setup, I will know whats up. To know what to expect on wakeup, which moves trump which. To have every tactical advantage before the battle even starts.

If I had one weapon at this point, its my knowledge of exactly what characters are capable of what, and knowing how to counter defensively. Blocking at the right time in this game is crucial. If there was one area I want to improve on. It would easily be footsies.

I will PM you the chars if you want Temp

Very good video, man. I agree with you on a lot of points (and LOL at the battery dying). I can't say I am a competitive player, but this game just showed me another dimension of fighting games and prior MK9 I made myself a promise, that I would master at least 1 or 2 characters to an expert level. Now I have 4-5 chars I can say I use really good. I don't play other fighting games and I ONLY followed MK JUST for story and characters. MK9 totally changed that and I even enjoy some Street Fighter 4 gameplay because of that (which I purchased AFTER I got MK9,to see what's up. Of course,it is much harder to be expert there, but at least I am trying to learn,LOL)

And professional gamers...I LOVE watching them online on streams. This year's EVO was the first one I watched and I gotta say,I ENJOYED it very much and gonna follow actually not only MK,but other fighting games as well.

Actually,by watching these streams of beasts clashing between each other,it helped me improve some of my strategy with certain characters. (But I ain't gonna lie man,Sektor WAS kinda hard to learn, but now,I can at least play him to solid level)

Awesome video,Cass, really reminded me of myself grin

While I don't know anything about frame traps and all that other shizz, I've actually always tried to get the most out of MK gameplay-wise. At least starting with MK4.

I always made it a priority to learn wicked combos and learn the tells of characters and whatnot. Thanks to Garlador, my Jax game is damn near unstoppable offline and thanks to random tips from Shesgotclaws & Zero my Sheeva gives even the highest tier characters a hard time.

I think I'll see what all the hubbub is all about on TYM now. I need to elevate my game and I could care less about tournaments. It's all so I can get mileage out of my favorite game of the year and making everyone around me look like utter shit when they try to cheese me.

I look forward to taking notes on any videos you post. And please, bring the Resident Evil!

good video.

ive always been a mk "fanboy", but at the competitive level.

i think the word "pro" is tossed around too much with mk9 nowadays.
because most of these so called "pros" dont have a whole lot of great skills. they rely on resets and other bugs that they use to their advantage. and without those most of em wouldnt be shit. and thats 100% fact.
