First, let me just say that if anyone already mentioned this in a previous topic, than I apologize now for being redundant.
This is an extra bit of information for those who either like or main Shang Tsung. Now we all know Shang's Soul Steal and Ex Soul Steal last for a duration of 5 & 10secs, respectively. However, if you simply crouch or hold block, then he'll remain in his current morph and won't turn back UNTIL you either release crouch/block or do an attack.
What this means is if you wanted to utilize a specific Special Move or Ex Special Move of that current morph just before you revert back, you'll simply buffer the commands of that move while you're crouching/blocking, and then release crouch/block upon completion of the move. That specific morph's X-Ray Attack can also be used in this fashion; in which case you'll just press the buttons for the X-Ray Attack immediately after releasing crouch/block.
In other words, you can use this as a surprise attack on an opponent who is anticipating your morph-back, or just to throw something extra out there before you turn back. In either case, you technically DON'T have to turn back until YOU are good and damn well ready! lol Ok, that was a little dramatic, but seriously, extending your morph could help you get out of a tight spot, or let you get off one more final attack as that character (especially if you missed your chance to capitalize a decent combo with that character).
If you find this little bit of information to be useless, then I apologize for this post. I just figured every bit of information on a character could be useful, especially if you're trying to master that character to the fullest.

I dont main Shang, but GOOD TO KNOW.
It's always interesting to get these little tid bits about the characters from people who use them often, pretty awesome in hindsight, this does a lot for Shang Tsung's mind games strategy. Thanks for sharing this tid bit, I'm still perplexed as to why Shang Tsung is such a rare commodity at tournaments and online, he can do serious damage and he has the benefit of having double the moveset of any character via his soul steal.

About Me
If you use the term "spam" I have no time for your argument.

Like I said before I think it is simply because not enough pros have mastered enough of the cast for this to be effective. Now Detriotballin is a great Shang player but let's say for example he knows very little about "X" character and plays against him. Now he does combo and ends in morph. If you cannot immediatley get your mind to switch to thinking in terms of "X", you be screwd. While you spend 5 seconds jumping around like a muppet your opponent has smashed half your life away or is piling on the pressure while you sit there and block. It will take a long time, but Shang Tsung WILL be right near the top later in this games life. I mean he is deadly just being himself but once people start taking advantage of his boost...Ouch.
I remember he was the last guy I picked up back in MK2 days but once I got pretty handy with everyone it was great being able to pick him up and have the entire cast at your disposal.

Thanks guys for the feedback! I'm just glad nobody thought this bit of news was lame! (my gf was in a fit of laughter the entire time I was working on it lol)
Anyway, Espio872 and WhereThereIsSmoke, you both are absolutely correct about what you two stated above. That is the main reason why I've always loved Shang Tsung and his morphs (MK2-MKT, MK9); it's like having a small platoon of soldiers at your disposal! That's also the very reason why I get so fustrated when I attempt to main him, because you have to take your time to familiarize yourself with every unit within that platoon to fully max him out (as you both stated above as well). I also need to use more of his normal pokes and jabs as well, instead of just (stubbornly) relying on his BrB Combo.

True, maybe next EVO we'll see it? I think that might be a good amount of time to see Shang's full potential.
You make a good point, I was watching his fight with Morty Seinfeld, when he morphed into Sonya, he kinda just arc kicked and that was it, he took the round, but he seemed to struggle heavily with her. Great Shang Tsung player regardless.
His soul steal was even crazier in MK 2, he could morph into anybody in a fight, I just love how versatile Shang Tsung is, very pleased with how he turned out in this game.
I'm not a tourney player, but I've been dabbling in just about everyone as of late, I need to use Quan Chi and Sektor next, though this wasn't deliberate, I'm planning on taking on Shang Tsung(by product of the random select tournament we had on MKO for August) as my next project, I wanna get good with him, especially if I can utilize his soul steal effectively.

I'm planning on putting Shang to good use, I've been getting more into him since that random select tourney we had on MKO.
He's another character that gets little to no play, gonna have to change that
