Watching all these tournaments and championships lately, coupled with the lack of ability to play online (and my friends being terrible players but shhh), I've decided to attend OmegaCon in Charlottesville, VA at the end of August to truly test my skills, garner tournament experience, and to all-around (hopefully) enjoy the experience.

That being said, I've researched multiple blogs, how-tos, and advice articles. However, most of them are very general, so I wanted to post here to see if anyone (with any kind of tourney experience) has any tips or advice pertaining to MKX or MK in general when it comes to the tournament scene.

I've been studying character matchups, but I'm sure there are certain aspects that I'm not taking into account, so any advice with that will be appreciated as well. Also, still trying to decide on my mains. Erron, Kitana, Reptile, Kotal, and Shinnok are my heavy hitters. I'd guess the ideal combo would be to choose a high pressure and a zoner, but not entirely sure with that either.

All in all, I look forward to this experience and I don't mind if I don't take first, but I'd at least like to survive a couple of matches to truly get a feel for the tournament environment.

Thanks in advance for the help! smile

I hate to be that guy but this site isn't really focused on the offline tourney scene or leveling up competitively. If that's what your looking for then this site is where you want to go. General advice would be to seek out a local scene. If you're in Southern/Northern VA I can put you in touch with some guys that run weeklies.

Thanks. I figured I should post here anyway to see if anyone might have tips strictly pertaining to MK competitions. I wasn't expecting a bunch of responses, but I thought we'd have at least a handful of competitive players here.

I'll register on TYM later this evening. Yeah, from what I've read, OmegaCon is still a young and growing event so I don't expect it to be too overwhelming. It's pretty much the only "official" one I could find around these parts considering I'm a bit late to the party this year. But if you want to IM me more info on those weeklies, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I live in southwest Virginia. I'd like to find some local people to play with

Yeah idk if its allowed or not but I recommend going to TYM for this, pretty much all the top MK guys ( Sonicfox, HoneyBee, Foxy Grandpa, Pig Of The Hut, Tom Brady etc.) post there as well.

I don't compete so i cant give you any advice, but I would certainly recommend making this thread over at TYM, you are bound to get tons of great advice since the majority of users there play competitively and always seem to be more than happy to help out fellow users.

There are some good tournament guys around the place, but a lot of them sit on their hands and stare out the window. I'd like to see a lot more, so posts like this are great to see. If you head out to some events, I hope you'll share your results and experiences. My advice: hygiene!

Appreciate all of the responses! I've also come across another tournament (The Fall Classic) that will be held sometime in the fall in Raleigh, NC. I plan on attending this as well. From what I've read so far, this seems to be a pretty big event. At least, for this general area.

Ha, oddly enough, that was a highlight in one of the articles I read. Emphasis on oral hygiene. Personal presentation was another big one. And of course, recording your matches.

I fully intend to post a write-up of my experience as well. Hopefully complete with pictures if possible. (Still inquiring about venue policies) At this point one of my biggest concerns is running into a tournament that is hosting on Xbox. I do not like fight sticks. But I know there are adapters available for purchase although I'm not sure if they are allowed in the pro scene. So that's on my list for research.
