Tournament rules on character picks.

So over on TYM there is a long discussion going on about in tournaments what is the fairest way to choose characters after the first match.

The 2 main contending options are as follows:
Option A: Winner is locked w/ character and variation no matter what the loser does.

Option B: If the loser keeps the same character the winner is locked regardless if the loser keeps their variation or not.

However if the loser switches characters the order would be;
Loser choose new character
Winner selects variation
Loser selections variation.

I personally feel option B is the best way to handle things and prevent a stupid counter picking war.

Tell me what you guys think and try to keep it civil.

I think winner should keep character. But if variations have a hide option he should be able to do so. Thus making it fair for the loser to choose his character and variation. Once the set is complete, whether he's in winners or losers. After his set win or defeat. He should be opted the option to choose a new character but no AC.

It's pretty obvious that winner keeps the character but has the option of changing the variation...

otherwise what's the fucking point of variations?

It'd instantly become nothing more than a gimmick if you don't get the option to change.

I mean why change variations only if you lose... when you can pick a different character that does a better job at what you need?

I thought variations were going to be treated like characters, i.e. I thought that the winner would have to keep the same character and variation, while the loser could chose whichever character and variation they want.

That's what I expected... It will be interesting what they decide in the end.

EDIT: Btw, I feel like moving this thread over to the Gameplay & Matchmaking subforum. Let's discuss gameplay/tournaments there. I'll just leave this 'advance notice' here so you guys are informed before the thread 'disappears'. wink

TYM is rarely a civil place.

I honestly don't see what the big deal is. Let people switch characters freely, I say. However, if I'm forced to choose, I'm going with B.

this is by far the best case scenario to make variations something more than a gimmick.

1- winner keeps character
2- loser gets to change character.
3- winner picks variation
4- loser picks his variation.

That is the best way to deal with this.

Seems reasonable to me.
